"Cinquain? But, I've never seen you write poetry."

The well-dressed man smiled. "Have you ever seen Captain Khazan write poetry?"

"No..."

"Precisely. What matters is that the name signifies my status as his nemesis. It wouldn't be proper for Haiku's greatest foe to be named something unrelatable, like Jonathan Verdunke Smythe or The Bonecrushinizer. Furthermore, 'Anti-Captain Khazan' was a horrible suggestion."

"Sorry."

"Quite all right."

Cinquain's plebian associate thought for a moment. "But, is a proper name really that important? Shouldn't you be more worried about being able to beat him?"

"Sir... I believe you understand nothing of Khazan."

Personality: "You see, Khazan is a World of Fate. Destiny. Predetermination. That which should be, will be. What powers you possess are irrelevant; the strongest and the greatest have been brought low time and again by the weaker and the lesser, simply because Fate wills it to happen. Thus, the key to surefire victory and success in Khazan is not power, but the appeasement of Fate. Once I am destined to be Haiku's arch nemesis, my rise to infamy will be certain. THAT, is why a proper name is important."

Strength:

Weak BELOW normal human strength -
can bench press 50 pounds (maybe).
Agility:

Standard Normal human agility.
Body:

Standard Normal human endurance. Mind:

Supreme Brilliant to the point of supra-genius.
Can easily think many many moves ahead.

Break the Will

The plebian scratched his brow. "I think I get it, but... is having the right name really all you need?"

Cinquain chuckled. "Of course not! A name is simply one aspect. Just as the hero strives to be heroic in every way, so must the villain seek to oppose him with every fiber of his being; his grim determination must cancel and counter the hero's stoic resolve. Moreso than simple vileness, one must become the complement, opposite, and alternative. Thus being the Fated Darkness to the hero's Light becomes only natural..."

Use the Best

  • Power: Commander
  • Level:Ultimate
  • Kit Power Link: Empathy
  • Area Effect This attack causes damage in a large area.
"Okay, fair enough, but, what about the other villains in town? I'm pretty sure you're not the only one trying to take down the Captain, and I'm the only lackey you've hired. I hope you don't expect me to take on all of them..."

"Most certainly not. Other villains in the eyes of Fate are mere pawns to be used against each other. I'll keep them so busy going after other assassins that might steal their kill that they'll never bother with harmless little me until they're completely exhausted. I only hired you because you fix a decent martini."

Take the Rest

  • Power: Tractor Beam
  • Level:Superior
  • Kit Power Link: Empathy
As if on cue, the lackey had just finished making a martini. "Oh. Right. So, what will YOU be doing then? I mean, once you've taken care of them, you've got to still be able to take on the Captain, right? How're you going to do that?"

Cinquain picked up the glass and shrugged. "I won't know until the other villains get here. They'll be supplying my means, after all. A weapon here, an explosive there... once they're done killing each other, someone will have to be around to use their plans against the Captain, after all..."

Flaunt the Skill

The lackey balked. "What? You can't be serious! That'll never work! You're--"

"Crazy? On the contrary, the plan is already working. I got you this job as a bartender at the casino after all; haven't you noticed that we've been able to talk about our vile machinations for several minutes now without interruption? Fate, my friend."

"Erm, no, that's deliberate planning on our part to hinder surveillance."

Cinquain laughed. "Is that what you call it? "Deliberate planning"? You really do understand so little... but don't worry. After tonight, you will see the TRUE nature of Khazan!"
