Khazan, City of Wonders. A place of daring deeds and acts of terrible, unthinkable villiany. Here, heroes are born. Here, every day, epic tales unfold.

This isn't one of them. (Bu-da-dum. Second paragraph in, and already a cliche!)

*camera zooms in on a run down-looking building with a sign that indicates that it is the headquarters of the Kh zan Ci y Vol nteer P l ce Dep rtment*

*suddenly, a face completely fills the screen*

Hi there! Are you the guy from that BUSTS TV show?

*camera zooms out abruptly, revealing a young woman in a police uniform*

Of course you are! Well, let's see ... I guess I should introduce myself. My name's Renee O'Shea. I'm a member of one of Khazan's newest attempts at law enforcement: the Khazan City Volunteer Police Department -- or just KCVPD.

Y'see, what with all of the super criminals running around, Khazan has *tried* more than once to maintain a dedicated police department. Sure, there's the KCPD, but with the kind of craziness this city sees, they're always waaay understaffed. And yeah, we've got supers, too ... but it's not like they're accountable, right?

*the woman pauses to throw down a shot of what appears to be bourbon*

But yeah! Accountability. The problem is that it's impossible to pay people *enough* money to actually go after people like Lord Apathy. Like, how do you even *do* that? All he ever does is sit on that rock and ...

Well, anyway, the city finally decided that the best solution was to just open up a volunteer department and try letting its most concerned and/or crazy citizens come forward to help. And the rest is history! Just the other day, the KCVPD officially opened its doors -- you know, ribbon-cutting ceremony, all that great stuff, and lots of refreshments -- love those little sausage things! Mmmmmm.

Personality: Of course, it's not like I'm *superpowered* or anything. I guess some might say you'd have to be crazy to do a job like this, especially as a volunteer, but I prefer to think of myself as "enterprising."

*begins walking as she talks*

Yeah, sometimes when I'm out there, no backup, in a cold, dark alley, facing down Vimdorg the Flamelord, I think to myself, "Gee, Renee, maybe you shoulda gone to work for the Khazan City Volunteer Hospital instead, so you could help people like you." But then I remember those two little words:

*long pause*

Damn. Well, I'll probably remember them later.

Anyway! Ready for the tour?

Oookay ... first, time to arm up!

Standard-issue police sidearm.

Check!

High-voltage taser gun.

Check!

Uh-huh. Right.

*tosses those aside*

Heeere we go ...

Rail gun, check. Shoulder-fired anti-tank/mech missile launcher, check. Concussion mines, check. Thermal detonators, check. Octanitrocubane-based explosives with remote detonator ...!

*looks up*

What?

Practice? Sure, I do that! Sorta.

*looking off-camera*

Am I on yet?

I ... WHAT?!!

*clears throat and quickly composes herself*

Ahem. Like any good member of the KCVPD, I strive to maintain the highest standards of integrity and service, and I train hard every day to be the best that I can be. Or ... well, nearly every day. A girl's gotta have a life, too, right? I mean, it's not like ...

*looking off-screen again*

What? I ... no, I know what I'm doing!

*facing the camera again and forcing a big, fake smile*

Like any good member of the KCVPD, I ... I ... that is ...

Oh, screw this PR crap! I need a drink.

*stalks off-camera*

I only get a Kevlar vest??

  • Power: Body Armor
  • Level:Standard
  • Weakness: Power in Item -Hard to Loseitem
  • Weakness: Limited Uses -Multi-Use
*fists balled, screaming*

Are you NUTS? You're sending me out there to deal with monsters like The Black Anarchist, and all I get for protection is this lousy vest?!! It's not even that durable! Look, I shot it all to hell just testing it!

Not enough points? What kind of cheesy excuse is that?!! I don't even know what that means! I -- hey, wait, don't you dare turn off the ...!

*click*

Night-vision goggles

  • Weakness: Power in Item -Hard to Loseitem
  • Weakness: Not usable in terrain Steel Cage
*flips her night vision goggles down, causing them to make a little bweeee! sound*

Ohhh, now *these* I like. Perfect for dealing with those really sneaky jaywalkers!

*flips the goggles back up, making a snazzy equipment-clicky sound*

This reminds me of a game!

*flips the goggles down again and brandishes a plasma rifle*

Okay! I'm ready.

*facefaults*

A ... a what? A steel cage?

*flings the goggles aside angrily*

What good are these going to be in there?!!

Sneak, sneak, sneak ...

  • Power: Blending
  • Level:Standard
  • Weakness: Not usable in terrain Steel Cage
*once again calmly addressing the camera*

Not that there's anything *wrong* with jumping out and boldly shouting, "Police! Get down on the ground!" and all that great cop show stuff, but let's just pretend for a moment that maaaybe someone like Toc Darkone wouldn't be impressed by that.

Sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor. By "discretion," I of course mean "sniping with a rail gun from a rooftop a block away."

It still counts as an arrest if there's enough of a body left to resurrect!

*sigh*

Of course, since they decided to stick me in this dumb cage, I don't have any hiding places to use!

I have a Hunch!

  • Power: Detective
  • Level:Superior
  • Weakness: Limited Uses -Multi-Use
*again smiling and addressing the camera*

One of the great things about being a fictional cop is you get the special ability to just arbitrarily know important things without having any good, logical reason to know them. It's called a "hunch" ... or a plot hole, depending on whom you ask. Which is why we kind of have to tone it down and not pull this too often.

Anyway, say Energy Freak takes over the power company or some silly theme crime like that. Now, it could have been any jerk doing it, maybe even another villian with energy powers, but I *know* it was Energy Freak! Why?

Never, ever ask that. In fact, try not to think too much about it.

SWAT tactics. Kinda.

This isn't exactly the safest beat to walk. Police officers in a normal city might, at best, deal with a few nasty local gangs. No superdorks.

Around here, you get a robbery call, and it might be Zalgor the Invincible knocking over the local convenience store. We kind of have to be ready for that.

Speaking of calls, when do we get to my patrol car?

Flashbangs! Yummy.

  • Power: Smoke Screen
  • Level:Superior
  • Ranged Attack Attack usable at a distance (only).
  • Weakness: Power in Item -Hard to Loseitem
  • Weakness: Limited Uses -Multi-Use
So let's go over proper KCVPD procedure one last time, just to be sure you've got it.

First: Kick in the door. Or blow up the door, depending on your needs. You might also yell "open the door!" as you do it, just for appearances.

Second: Start yelling a lot of scary and conflicting orders like "freeze!" and "get down on the ground!"

Third: Whatever they do, start shooting anyway. You don't want to take chances.

Oh! And you might throw a flashbang or three, too. I always carry some myself. A blind and deaf target is a much easier target! ... er, suspect.

The captain is yelling at me. ;_;

  • Power: Lucky
  • Level:Supreme
  • Weakness: Limited Uses -Multi-Use
*looking at someone off-camera*

Yes, sir, I know I --

It's my ... my third day, sir.

Yes, sir, I'm aware that most of Aurorae Square no longer exists in any identifiable form. Yes, sir, I understand that apprehending the Marauding Kumquat does not at any point take priority over the security and safety of the citizens of Khazan, not to mention the structural integrity of Khazan itself.

Thank you, sir. For the record, I did try to stop the Kumquat from blowing up those buildings. Rest assured, sir, it won't happen again!

*quickly retreats from the office, looks around to see whether anyone else is watching, then leans forward to whisper to the camera*

Whew! Lucky nobody noticed it was *my* missed shot that did that. I just hope my luck holds. This job is tough!

Hey, and when do we get to my patrol car?

What do you mean, "not enough points"?!! Hey, come back here!

I'M NOT WALKING ALL OVER KHAZAN!!!
