As the professor stepped into the room he reminded himself why he was here. They'd killed his wife, kidnapped his daughter, and forced him to work for them. Today, all of that would change. Frulong stepped up to the podium in the small conference room apprehensively. He carried with him a small briefcase and several notes which he kept sorting as he considered his presentation. He hopefully scanned the room seeking his daughter, but only saw her captors and their bodyguards. Ready as he would ever be, the professor nervously began his speech. "Welcome gentlemen, to the update on my progress you requested. I would like to take this time to remind you that I am having difficulty working under these conditions and I hope that you see fit to alleviate some of the pressure." One of the people in the audience shifted in his seat and spoke. "Professor Frulong, we have taken these precautions only to ensure that you remain loyal to the Temporal Anomaly Commission. We hold your daughter only because we wish to acquire the necessary information without undue resistance on your part. I assure you that we will return to you your daughter once we have the necessary information. And no harm will come to her," the man's expression darkened "so long as you do not displease us." Frulong nodded, gulped and began his report. "I would like to begin with a summary of my knowledge as a reminder. As you know, time is like a stream; it flows in a given direction, forever continuing onward. In addition to this, time is influenced by our decisions, branching into different streams every time a possibility is reached. At this point, from the time stream, multiple possibilities are reached all differing. To look at the time stream would be to look at a tree that divided into infinite branches. Now this is only our reality. There are several other realities that stand aside ours that have no influence on each other, until recently." Another of the men in the audience nodded, confirming the professor's statements. Another looked irritated and spoke up. "Get on with it Mr. Frulong!" The professor sighed and continued, "Your time magicians recently reported that the dimensional barriers were being crossed and that something was... causing the dimensional and temporal realities to overlay. You could not find the answer to the problem yourself or," the next few words were said in disgust "turn it for your own profit. So you 'rescued' a needy teacher of Chronomancy and made him do your dirty work." Frulong sighed and continued. "What I have discovered is that there is another reality, one quite close by. This reality is something more than normal it is a Nexus. It draws the other times streams and realities through it, perfectly duplicating each one and including it in it's own reality. I have entered this reality. Its denizens know it as Khazan. In this place anything is possible, the potential is limitless." The people in the audience became excited, murmuring among themselves. Professor Frulong raised his voice above the din. "During the time I spent there I managed to get a feel for how to enter, exit, and even control a few of the possibilities to some degree. I have prepared a demonstration."

Personality: The members of the TAC were excited. If the professor spoke the truth then this Khazan would be a very worthwhile as an investment. Frulong looked down on them from the podium where he stood. He perceived that the general state of excitement was a proper distraction. He extended his awareness to the walls of the room, and focused the setting of the place he had prepared on Khazan. The room didn't change itself at all, nothing was different, but Frulong could feel it, new that his move had worked. He turned to the crowd once again assembled beneath him, awaiting the demonstration. Frulong nodded, mostly to assure himself that this was the only course, and began again "Gentleman, I would like to inform you that I have just brought us to Khazan proper, home of the Fantasy Powers League." The white washed walls of the room fell away and Frulong didn't stop talking "also, many people and things make their home here, including my new friends, the Sentinels of Liberty and Justice. They promote lawfulness and the right to freedom." Frulong now nodded the small contingent of SLJ that stood just beyond the fallen walls of the room. "I would like to take this moment to thank them. I'm afraid that you will be thinking of your wrong doing in jail, gentlemen." Frulong's previous employers looked furious. None moved, but one spoke up, "Do tell us then, Frulong, how you set this up."

Perception and reality

Frulong nodded and sighed "I might as well. It's quite simple for us time mage folk. You see, since all of Khazan is one big multiple reality, all one has to do is set up certain presets. For example, when I first came to Khazan it was quite by accident. I was in my study wishing that I could see my wife one more time. As it happened, I looked out my window, and saw what I thought to be her! I thought it impossible at first, but then I looked outside. It seemed that the little shack I use as my study was in the middle of an open field completely unlike anything I had ever seen. My study replaced a house that had someone who looked exactly like my wife outside. I had, in my mind's eye, imaged that my beloved was just outside my door, and there she was. I found it quite odd, considering that she was dead, and then I realized what had happened. I had perceived one of the many possibilities that Khazan offered and drew myself to it. I then went back to my chair from where I was and thought of where I was being held captive. I went to my window to find that I had returned to the mountains where I was under house arrest for you.

"After that I made several trips back and forth, and set up the meeting with the SLJ. By erecting walls similar to those of the room that I was to give my report in I fooled you into thinking that we were safe, back in our normal reality. I can transfer myself between realities at anytime simply by closing my eyes, but to transfer you I had to set up the illusion in advance that you perceived you were still in the same place. By extending my ability to you and changing my perception of the world beyond the room I was able to move us to Khazan proper without alerting you." Both the SLJers and the TAC were dumbfounded. "Astounding," said one. "Absolutely incredible" said another. The head of the Commission glared at Professor Frulong. "We didn't give you enough credit professor. Do not think that the next time we come along we will be as easy to fool. Don't forget that we still have your daughter, and if her watchers don't hear from us in a day, she's dead." The grin plastered across his face as he was dragged away infuriated Frulong. Indeed, he thought to himself, I go to remedy that situation now.

A step out of Phase

  • Power: Phasing

Frulong walked away from his friends, and enemies with the SLJ. He had some unfinished business to attend to. He walked along until he found a suitably deteriorated, and vacated building. He thought back to the video they had shown him of his daughter to reassure him that she was well. What fools they had been. He had taken great interest in the background of the video and Frulong thought of it now. He had never tried this before but his daughter's life hung in the balance. He moved a small piece of his original reality to Khazan, but forced himself to remain in between both realities. He then saw that his transfer had worked, and the warehouse where they held his daughter captive now landed on Khazan. Frulong moved forward, through the walls towards his daughter.

Paradox

Frulong moved towards his daughter, but he hadn't expected to be seen. He thought he was suspended enough between reality that he might be invisible. As it turned out he was wrong. The guards occupying the warehouse took note of Frulong passing through the wall. Alarms began sounding and the guards ran grabbing weapons, and attempted to call their superiors for orders. One wore the silver robes of a time magician. This one calmly cast a spell, causing the professor to drop into Khazan reality completely. As a last ditch effort Frulong mentally reached into his opponent's head and stretched his consciousness over multiple realities. The mage screamed and clutched at his head as his thoughts were sent careening through the multiverse. Frulong quickly dispelled the casting that kept him in phase and stepped over to his daughter. He picked her up and strode out transferring himself to the SLJ base where he informed the clerk of the warehouse's new occupants. Frulong looked down the limp body of his sleeping daughter that he carried in his arms. He set her down on a couch and stepped up to the clerk again. "May I have an application, please?"

Altering the Perception

  • Power: Illusion Creation
  • Level:Supreme
  • Area Effect This attack causes damage in a large area.
  • Melee Attack Attack usable only hand to hand.
  • Weakness: Not usable in terrain Deathtrap Equalizer
Frulong had just barely won his first fight. He had little to no actual weapons that he could use, and his ability move between dimensions was practically useless against his foes. To change the reality he would have to alter their perception... ...come the next battle, Frulong was prepared. He faced his foe in the combat terrain known as the Endless Caves, the perfect place to test his new repertoire of spells. When he finally found his foe, he immediately created the illusion of flickering lights dancing on the walls. For a moment, the enemy was startled into thinking that he was in the Lava flow rather than the Endless Caves, and that moment was his undoing...
