In 2582, the Swanson Family is the latest hot musical item to come off of New Mars. Boasting a sound that is both cheerful and upbeat, they travel the galaxy on their space-going tour bus to bring good cheer to the peoples of the Milky Way. While on their tour, they come into many interesting situations (about one an episode) in which the unique skills of the family are needed to either help out a friend or get them out of a tight situation themselves.

The family is led by John Swanson, or "Dad," who is the only member of the family with no musical background. He acts as the manager and coach for the children and arranges all the booking. Although he is warm-hearted and all the other members of the family look to him for guidance, he is generally written as bumbling comic relief.

June Swanson " "Mom" and lead vocalist. She serves as the serious management of the family when Dad's antics run flat. She provides the cautionary tone when Dad allows Thad, Chad and Sarah to go off on their own, invariably to get into trouble.

Fred Swanson " "Uncle Fred" (brother of John) is the bassist and the sound technician of the family. He is a technical genius, and fills that important niche in any children's cartoon. Often "recalls something he learned in college" to save the day with a pseudo-scientific technical solution.

Alice Swanson " "Aunt Alice" generally plays a background role. She is mostly written in so that there is someone there is someone on the keyboard. Serves little purpose in the plot and the dialog as the producers felt that having more than 2 important female characters might send the wrong image to developing young children.

Thad and Chad Swanson " these twin brothers are not really twins. Well, maybe they are fraternal twins. They are never drawn the same although it is implied they were born at the same time on a few occasions. One plays lead and one plays rhythm, both do supporting vocals. No one is sure which one is the lead. Serve as the impulsive teenagers of the group, often uncovering "something you shouldn't have seen young man, and now you'll have to pay" plot devices.

Sarah Swanson " The youngest Swanson, she plays the tambourine and sings along with mom. She is the innocent and naive member of the group, and provides a lot of the setup for explanations in dialog. Her small size often allows her to sneak into places the other members can't go, providing at least one escape per season.

Personality: This is your average, happy-go-lucky family blessed with musical talent. In each episode, they manage to get themselves into a pickle, usually because of Chad or Thad, but they always manage to find a way out, making friends around the galaxy and spreading good cheer as they do so with their combination of positive moral messages and uplifting lyrical content in musical interludes featuring a new song at the end of every episode that YOUR CHILD WILL LOVE TO SING ALONG WITH!

Episode 1: Introducing the Family

Episode 1 Synopsis: The family's first adventure, this serves as a general introduction. While wandering around backstage, Chad and Thad overhear an argument between the corrupt theater owner and his mob bosses. When the police catch wind of something amiss before the performance, the rest of the family is rounded up with all of the stage hands and the manager right before the show! Only Thad, who was not ready to go onstage at the time, manages to avoid the bust and must gather clues from the hideout of the still-free mob-bosses to prove the innocence of the Swanson Family! Only by noticing the patterns of behaviour of the guards and observing the combinations they punch in to the locks is he able to get deep into the vaults and make copies of the records implicating the theater manager while clearing the family name.

Using his acoustical engineering skills, he manages to set the family's stage equipment such that he makes an exponential amplifier. After a few test runs, Mom and Sarah manage to find the high notes necessary to cut straight through the rock, freeing the miners.

Episode X: All Creatures Love Music

Synopsis: During the Winterian System Tour, the Swanson Family discovers all is not as well as it seems on these paradise planets. Although progress is being made for the human settlers, the animals of the planets are being displaced from their homes. When Sarah finds a stranded baby leopard, it takes a liking to her until the real parents arrive. When they realize that Sarah meant no harm and was taking care of their child, they manage to develop a way to communicate with her and enlist the family's aid in talking to the human settlers. By the end of the episode, the family has brokered a deal between the humans and the animals allowing both of them to live in harmony. Mom and Sarah go into overdrive making new costumes and makeup while Dad and the rest go to work adjusting their sound. Chad and Thad easily rescue the kidnapped band and bring them back to the concert hall only to startle the band members who are watching their own act on the stage! The band members are convinced it was a holo replay of an old show, held for just such an emergency. The family doesn't let the secret slip and the fans are never the wiser.

(Note: This plot can only be recycled once every couple of seasons or it gets really stale)

Episode 32: Caught in Clandora

Episode 32 Synopsis: The Swanson Family is in trouble with another corrupt theater manager. But this time, he has the local law enforcement on his side, and he's essentially holding the family, along with many other bands, hostage to play for his concerts without paying them, on the premise of 'stage fees'. It's up to Sarah, the youngest Swanson, to sneak through the theater and through the town undetected to get a message off to the Interplanetary Musicians Guild that something is afoot on Planet Clandora. Staying low she manages to get through a few close calls and get to message station to place the call for help. Hours later, the Intergalactic Police show up and put an end to the whole operation. (NOT AIRED IN ORIGINAL FORM DUE TO SUGGESTIONS OF VIOLENCE AND MURDER IN ORIGINAL SCRIPT. LATER AIRED WITH SIGNIFICANT ALTERATIONS)
