Sentinel criminal database #616: Damien Cortez ~Aliases: Damien Cortez ~Sex: Male~Birthplace: Island of Majorca, Spain~Birthday: December 12th~Age: 19~Height: 5'10''~Blood Type: (A) ~Rank: S-class threat (extremely dangerous)~Affiliations: Reavers - (lapsed) ~Citizenship: Spanish and Japanese~Language(s): Spanish, Japanese, English~Family: ~Mother- (deceased, murdered by an unknown Reaver)~Father – (whereabouts unknown) ~Known Powers and Abilities: Psychic & Necromancer - (ex-Shaman)~Wanted for: Assault, use of dangerous Dark Magic, Murder~Status: Alive and Wanted~Back-story: ~ Damien Cortez was born of two separate spiritual lines; his father, Diego Cortez, was a practicing Spanish catholic occultist, while his mother, Miko Kasen, is believed to have been a priestess in an isolated and clandestine sect of the Japanese Shinto religion. The culmination of their beliefs in their child is not unnoticed, as Damien's abilities show signs of both styles of teachings. When Cortez was born his mother was in hiding from Japanese authorities. No record remains to show what crime she was accused of, however she did return to Japan with her family seven years after Damien's birth. At age fourteen the Japanese school board found that Damien was a genius with, at that time, an IQ of 212. It is around this time that persons close to the family suggest that he developed psychic abilities and began practicing simple magic. At age sixteen he and his family moved to Khazan for an unknown reason. Once there he joined the Reavers and quickly became a rising star within the organization. At the time he possessed a genius intellect, standard rank telepathy, and noticeable, albeit weak, shamanistic magic. ~However as Cortez rose through the ranks an altercation occurred between him and another Reaver codenamed "White Willow" (see criminal file 617). The details of the conflict are sketchy rumors at best, however the altercation left Willow hospitalized and led many members of the Reavers to declare war on the Cortez family. During this attack Cortez's mother was murdered by an unidentified Reaver. Following the loss of his mother Damien left the Reavers and went into hiding within the Lowtown of Khazan. While in hiding he began to explore the use of the dark arts, eventually choosing to give up shamanistic magic altogether to become a necromancer in addition to enhancing his natural psychic abilities. Three months later on his seventeenth birthday, he re-immerged and challenged many of the Reavers who he saw as responsible for his mother's death. Although outnumbered and eventually forced to retreat, Cortez's new powers struck a painful blow to the Reavers, killing one member. It can be assumed that this is not the member personally responsible for his mother's death, as Cortez himself has declared since then that his mother's killer still lives. ~Remarks: ~ Damien Cortez is wanted for the murder of a Reaver whose identity has been protected, along with various other attacks against the Reavers in the past two years. He is also a person of interest in the disappearance of an ex-sentinel codenamed "Fenrir". He operates as a solo- criminal with no known affiliations. He retains a genius intellect, telepathic powers, necromancy abilities, and is multi-lingual. Whatever long term goals Cortez holds are secret as he has gone more or less underground in the past two years. His last known base of operations was in central Lowtown and as of yet has yielded no evidence as to Cortez's plans. His current location is an unknown, yet he is still suspected to be within Lowtown. While his background relates more to Reavers, his destructive capability and impressive criminal record should make him a priority of all Sentinels as well.

Psychological Overview: ~ Damien Cortez is said to be still psychologically reeling from the death of his mother and apparent disappearance of his father. These events are constantly on his mind and force him to seek revenge against his former partners, the Reavers. While Damien seeks revenge for his parent's deaths, there is more involved in his quest to destroy the Reavers. According to a source close to Cortez, (who's identity shall be protected), Cortez harbors deep feelings that he must enforce justice on the Reavers, as they are traitors and no more innocent than those who they attempt to fight. This deep rooted sense of enforcing justice combined with Cortez's already incredibly high intellect have lead to egomaniacal tendencies which make him over-confident and arrogant. In addition, Damien Cortez feels he must be in control at all times, suggesting signs of an aggravated superiority complex.~ However in personal relationships Cortez has been described as distant and even shy. He shows little outward emotion and speaks little. When he does speak it is almost always in a formal and proper tone and relates logically to what is happening around him. He retains self control and is ordinarily calm and non-aggressive. According to the aforementioned close source to Cortez, "Damien is a real silent dude, he may even be completely psychotic, but if he is, he's got a funny way of showing it." Because of his criminal activities, self-centered mental state, and high intelligence Damien Cortez shows many symptoms of psychopathic/sociopathic behavior. However his devotion to justice shows that not only can he differentiate between good and evil, but that he feels empathy for victims and can base decisions on non-selfish reasons. For this reason experts within the Sentinels have reasoned that Damien Cortez is sane but may merely lack certain social skills.~ However this does not undermine the danger he poses. Damien Cortez has no hesitation in committing violent and criminal acts when they benefit him. Be careful during any encounter.

Fantasma Del Sol

     Necromancer: Supreme

Spirit One: Fantasma Del Sol~Rank: B-class threat (dangerous)~ Fantasma Del Sol, or just "Del Sol" for short, is the first of Cortez's dual guardian spirits. Del Sol has been encountered by Sentinel forces in the past and was believed to have been sealed inside a book nearly 15 years ago by the now ex-Sentinel "Fenrir" (see personnel file 109). Del Sol is a powerful spirit in its own right and most likely required some effort for Cortez to release and capture it. It is unclear how exactly Cortez came in contact with Del Sol but it should be mentioned that the former Sentinel "Fenrir", who sealed the spirit, has gone missing for over a year. He is presumed alive until further notice. ~Fantasma Del Sol translates in Spanish to "ghost of the sun"; and is described as being built of glowing white light with a body similar to that of a giant dog or wolf. In battle its main use seems to be offensive as Cortez can release the spirit to attack his opponents without dictating its actions, meaning the spirit can follow orders without being near Cortez himself. The spirit attacks like a beast, clawing, biting, and ripping at targets. In one known case reported by Fenrir within his notes, Del Sol has ripped human bodies to shreds. Aside from this Del Sol possesses the standard ghostly powers, i.e. move through walls, flight, and undead status. In past uses Cortez has shown the ability to summon and re-summon Del Sol by chanting a prayer and calling the spirit's name.

Ryoro

     Necromancer: Supreme

Spirit Two: Ryoro~Rank:???~ Ryoro is Cortez's second guardian spirit and of the two is the most unknown. Its appearance is similar to Del Sol's in that it represents a dog or wolf, but is separate because it is made out of shadow instead of light. No known record of the spirit "Ryoro" existed before Cortez was seen using it during an attack against the Reavers half a year ago. Its origin is unclear and may in fact be new to the Sentinel files. In battle it is the tactical opposite of Cortez's other guardian, in that Del Sol is principally offensive while Ryoro has been used as principally defensive. The spirit combines with Cortez's shadow beside him and cannot normally be seen. Should anyone get to close to its master, Ryoro disconnects from the shadow, flies out of the ground and ambushes it's target in a manner similar to Del Sol. It is unclear what this radius of defense is, as this spirit has only been observed twice to our knowledge, and even then only briefly as it recombines with Cortez's shadow once the threat has been neutralized. We believe this may be only one way in which the spirit could be used. Furthermore it appears that no summoning prayer is required as Ryoro remains in the shadows permanently. Without any further evidence we cannot classify Ryoro's threat level aside from saying it is B-class or above. Anyone with further information regarding this spirit should make it known.

Telepathy

     Telepathy: Supreme

Telepathic Abilities ~ As mentioned above Cortez was born with natural psychic telepathic abilities which have been enhanced three fold through Necromancy. He can read the immediate thoughts of any person he comes into contact with. This gives him a distinct advantage in battle and it is cautioned that anyone attempting to confront him be aware of this as the element of surprise may quickly be lost. His telepathy allows him to have direct mental communication with his target, which has in the past lead to mind games he plays with opponents. While Cortez cannot yet use this ability to create illusions and has no specific training in psychological analysis or detection, he can use it to insult, scare, or distract his targets to his advantage. In addition it appears this allows him to remotely communicate with his guardian spirits.

Urgent Warning

     Immunity: Standard

Urgent note~Under no circumstances should any form of mind control be attempted on Damien Cortez. We have found that through intensive training and as an extension of his Necromancy, Cortez has gained the ability to remove his soul from his body if his mind so much as detects it is being controlled. Once this happens the control is broken and Cortez shortly returns to normal. This maneuver acts as a reflex and cannot be avoided. If one were to attempt to control Cortez they would fail and may even suffer some harm from the attempt. Again under no circumstance should mind control be attempted.
