Match 16974 Leonardo (Mirage) vs. Leonardo (2012)

Recommended Posts

Michelangelo gripped his nunchaku within his hands, twirling the chained clubs swiftly and with skill as he watched his opponent named after her namesake weapon as carefully as he could. Michelangelo had never really fought anyone with a weapon like that before but there was a first time for everything. As far as he could guess, the weapon which his opponent carried was definitely an offensive type and was one which definitely gave her range. If he was going to win this fight, he was definitely going to have to get around that whip which the last member of Ikari team carried around. In his mind, that shouldn’t exactly be too hard but… as Leonardo often told him, that he shouldn’t get careless even if he was fairly confident of his own abilities in a fight.

The red masked wily Turtle stepped forward, but Whip flicked her hand down and cracked her namesake weapon onto the ground, the tip of the lash now snapping at the edge of Michelangelo’s feet. The Turtle couldn’t help but instinctively stop immediately. Okay, so she was fast with that weapon. Michelangelo couldn’t help but nod at that as he pursed his lips and sucked away at his own teeth before licking them.

“Mm’kay, mm’kay.” He whispered to himself.

Michelangelo strafed to his left and immediately made an attempt to run forward, but again the woman snapped her right hand down and lashed her weapon down at the spot where the Turtle quickly attempted to move. Michelangelo abruptly came to a stop and widened his eyes as the lash snapped it’s tip at the ground. That weapon definitely gave Whip more than enough range to keep Michelangelo at bay. He rolled his tongue in his mouth and poked it through his cheeks as he tried to think of a way to simply get around this particular problem. Michelangelo simply again took in a breath of air through his nostrils and released a sigh from within as he now stepped forward as fast as he could— and watched his opponent carefully. Whip quickly raised her arm so slightly, and quickly brought the whip down to strike at the Turtle as she aimed for his feet again. But Michelangelo was catching on.

Immediately, the mutant Red Ear Slider then had pulled himself within his shell, retracting his arms, legs and his head back inside. He dropped to the ground, landing onto his plastron and he would spin and slide right in towards the young woman rather quickly. Whip’s weapon hit nothing but solid concrete and she was forced to pull the last back and maybe even attempt to get a strike on her opponent but by the time she recoiled her weapon, Michelangelo was already leaping from out his shell, arms and legs pushed out and nunchaku firmly gripped in hand. Whip couldn’t help but widen her eyes at how he was able to do that— because even if that was some sort of weird costume which he was wearing, then how in the hell was he able to pull his limbs into the shell like that?

Michelangelo twirled his nunchaku within his right hand across horizontally back across to the right and moved it to the left as he took aim for Whip’s mid-section. As a followed up to this, Michelangelo then would twirl his chained clubs upwards while also exchanging the handles between his fingers. Whip immediately dashed back and she felt the breeze of the initial swing of the nunchaku which the Turtle seemed to utilize with a level of expertise. However, when the second upward swing came for him, Whip immediately side-stepped to her right and managed to barely evade the weapon as quickly as she could. The Turtle turned in a spin to his left, and he brought both chained nunchaku across horizontally as he took aim for Whip’s head but the young woman leaned away, again feeling the breeze of the weapons as they passed overhead. However, Michelangelo compensated for his missed attack by pushing himself up to the air and he snapped his right leg up— firmly impacting it against Whip’s chin. The young woman grunted as she stumbled from the blow, losing her footing in the process as she hit the ground flat onto her rear.

It was this moment Michelangelo aimed to capitalize on this opening.

He stepped forward, rushing as fast as he could right at Whip and he pushed himself forward and up—pouncing in her direction. Michelangelo then kicked both his feet out, intending on firmly slamming his feet into the young woman’s chest— but Whip instead scrambled and rolled to her left, allowing the Turtle to hit nothing but the concrete support beam behind her and watched as Michelangelo dropped to his carapace. Whip raised her arms and gripped her weapon firmly, pulling it tightly before she then swung it horizontally over from right to left, aiming for the Turtle’s plastron as she performed one of her own weapon based techniques. Shot Type B: Chikara.

Michelangelo’s plastron had been struck across by the whip and the Turtle felt something snapping down onto him. However, his front plating was more than strong enough to endure the weapon with little to no problem at all whatsoever. And Michelangelo couldn’t help but grin as he realized his major advantage over his opponent.

“Oh ho ho ho ho! You’re in trouble now, lady!” Michelangelo chuckled.

Whip pulled her weapon back and she prepared another lashing as Michelangelo now rushed right in towards her. Michelangelo turned in a spin and he leaned forward only to plant his hands onto the concrete ground of the parking garage, now throwing his weight forward to perform a cartwheel flip in towards Whip. He turned while in mid-flip and somersaulted forward, only to then pounce at her and intended to slam both his feet down onto her. Quickly, Whip swung her right hand over head and then cracked her lash as she brought it down for Michelangelo’s face. The wily Turtle leaned to his left, barely managing to dodge the nasty sting of the lash. He rushed in again as Whip pulled the weapon back , intended to prepare another strike with it. It was then the Turtle turned with his weight and he swung his right leg across to the left, aiming for Whip’s knees and the young woman buckled as she winced in discomfort and pain. Michelangelo then would turn with his hips as he then thrust his arms forward and out, firmly impacting his fists directly into the Ikari fighter’s mid-section, causing Whip to lurch and gasp in pain as she was met with Michelangelo’s fists quite firmly.

Following up with this, Michelangelo then tensed up his leg muscles and he briefly leapt off from the ground only to then turn in a spin to his left as he then moved his right leg across in a jumping spinning crescent kick motion, now firmly impacting his foot onto the side of Whip’s face. Whip was sent flying across the parking lot garage by a good eight feet and she soon felt gravity pulling her down only to then slam her side against the front grill of a parked Ford pick-up, causing it to briefly shake from the impact. She dropped forward, only to now face plant onto the ground and she grunted in immediate discomfort and anger. Firmly planting her hands to the ground, Whip pushed herself to her feet and gripped her namesake weapon as she was more than ready to attack with it.

She immediately raised her right hand up, lashing the whip upwards to snap at Michelangelo’s chin but the wily Turtle leaned to his left and in a follow up motion, Whip snapped her weapon down in an effort to bring it down onto Michelangelo’s right shoulder.

“GAAAAH!” Michelangelo yelped, the lash snapping against the skin of his shoulder.

Whip couldn’t help but smirk now as she recoiled her weapon and then snapped it across to the left, and watched as the lash now would move around Michelangelo’s neck, with the tip snapping against his skin. Michelangelo winced in discomfort and pain as he suddenly felt himself being pulled against his will. Whip pulled back firmly, putting more strength into her pull, and Michelangelo buckled forward only to drop onto his plastron and found himself being pulled towards her feet. The red masked ninja couldn’t help but widen his eyes as he inched closer and closer, and Michelangelo now watched as Whip placed her right foot onto the top of his head.

The young woman began to grind the heel of her boot onto the Turtle’s head, and Michelangelo grunted in agonizing pain as she pressed her weight onto her foot— and he could feel the heel digging into his skull. The red masked ninja shut his eyes, listening to his opening now laughing at his own displeasure. This was something which he didn’t like, and he wasn’t going to tolerate it any further. Michelangelo reached out, grabbing a hold of Whip’s feet and tensed up his arm muscles, only to pull back and yank the woman off from her feet. Whip widened her eyes as she gasp, suddenly experiencing brief weightlessness and hit the ground flat onto her back. Michelangelo immediately planted his hands onto the ground and pushed himself to his feet.

As Whip was rising, regaining her bearings—Michelangelo immediately went onto the offensive once more as he had turned with his hips and swung his arms across, firmly striking his fists down onto the young woman’s mid-section and he turned with his weight again, only to pump his left fist out and impacted it once more onto his opponent’s body. Whip couldn’t help but lurch and gasp as air was being pushed out from her lungs and she worked to regain her composure as well as her breath. The red masked ninja then had twirled his nunchaku within his right hand, and he swung it upward, firmly impacting it onto Whip’s chin.

Whip stumbled back from the blow, her senses jarred from the blow. It was at this moment Michelangelo went in for the opportunity to strike. The wily Turtle stepped forth and rushed, now twirling his twin nunchaku within his grasp in a figure eight motion and then swung the chained weapons upwards and down, then he would move them horizontally across before he would twirl them and move them downward, only to then swing them both up while exchanging the handles between his fingers. Whip was immediately bombard with blows from the nunchaku, and was forced to move back while enduring the impacts and with each strike landed, she grunted and yelped in discomfort and pain. When she had been hit in the chin, Whip was suddenly sent flying back in a spin and she dropped, hitting the ground after enduring that hot nunchuck fury from the red masked mutant Turtle.

Whip moved her left hand up to her face, wiping away at her lip and glared down at her gloved palm— seeing that there was a red stain on the glove. Seething with anger, Whip pushed herself to rise and already she widened her eyes to see the Turtle running towards her. Michelangelo tensed up his leg muscles only to push himself forward and pounced right in towards the Ikari fighter, only to curl himself up into a ball and throw his weight forward and down, performing a somersault with the intent to slam into her with his body weight.

“ATTACK!”

And Whip suddenly felt a strong discomforting feeling slamming into her head and she was sent flying right in towards a parked car. She had hit it back first and grunted upon impact as her back now felt a strong ache moving up along and she couldn’t help but place her right hand down onto her hip and arch her back to cope with the pain. The red masked wily Turtle landed feet first onto the concrete covered ground and Michelangelo then had again tensed himself up only to turn in a spin and he pushed himself up and he snapped his left leg out, firmly impacting his foot directly into Whip’s mid-section and she couldn’t help but yelp as the air had been pushed out from her lungs.

“Keep the pressure going Mikey, you got this!” Leonardo shouted as he raised his hands to his mouth.

“I guess he learned not to screw around after fighting that red kunoichi chick, huh?” Raphael commented.

“This has been a very different experience for us, Raphael. Just like Master Splinter wanted us to have. We’re fighting up against other styles and coming across people with different abilities, some possessing powers we didn’t expect! I mean the fact that we came this far is… pretty amazing.” Donatello responded.

Whip puffed her cheeks as she happened to be fuming with anger. She gripped her weapon in both hands, pulling it firmly before she would then swing it across with her right hand and then aimed to bring it down, cracking it towards Michelangelo’s face. The red masked ninja leaned to his right, evading the whip only to have it briefly but painfully lash onto his left shoulder. She pulled the weapon back again and then flicked it upwards, this time going for the mutant reptile’s chin but Michelangelo quickly rushed to his left as he ran. Whip growled as she shot a glare to the Turtle, now taking aim for his legs and she cracked the lash once more—intending to land a sting onto Michelangelo’s feet but the Turtle immediately then had pushed himself up and he vaulted over the whip, now somersaulting through the air and he had landed feet first onto the ground. Lowering his hands, Michelangelo slipped his nunchaku back within his belt. Whip grinned, seeing her opponent putting his weapons away and she immediately flicked her right hand forward, cracking the weapon as she took aim for Michelangelo’s face again.

But the red masked ninja moved his left arm out and firmly took a hold of the whip within his hand, momentarily experiencing a brief stinging sensation in his palm. He pulled the lash and Whip pulled briefly—but the red masked ninja quickly moved his right hand down and he took hold of the ringed handle of the iron blade he needed. A kunai had been drawn, and he slid the blade along the whip— now cleaving it in two.

“BUT THAT’S… THAT’S NOT FAIR!” Whip shouted.

It was at this moment, Michelangelo then had moved his hands to grip his nunchaku once more. Drawing them out, he would begin skillfully spinning and twirling the chained weapons as he now rushed right in towards the Ikari fighter—only to then swing away at her with the twin nunchaku from all directions, occasionally even delivering elbows and punches, as well as multiple kicks onto his opponent’s body. Lastly, Michelangelo turned and hunched down only to then leap to the air at a height of twelve feet, and as he did so, he raised his right arm up while spinning the nunchaku within his grasp— impacting Whip along the way, causing her to fly up.

Gravity would pull Whip down, her now unconscious form slamming down onto a nearby car— causing it to shake and dent from the impact of the fall.

There was no movement. Michelangelo threw his arms up in celebration at his victory. Leonardo, Donatello and Raphael gathered around their youngest sibling— now raising him up to their shoulders and carried him. Tonight called for a celebration… as well as some much needed rest.

Chizuru Kagura had not expected this at all. These four new comers in the KOF tournament certainly managed to overcome some exceptionally powerful opponents considering the variety of teams which attended this tournament. And for a team that seemed to possess no true powers, their level of skill allowed them to compete fairly well. That was something which she had to commend as it warranted a high level of merit but when one of the newcomers had managed to defeat an individual who had carried the power of Orochi in her blood… That was something which REALLY warranted her attention. After all, defeating a person with the power of Orochi was most certainly no easy feat, even if someone like Leona Heidern had little control over that dark power.

Chizuru had been watching the Turtles for some time; as a matter of fact she had been watching every team to see which one would reach the end of the tournament. However, to her surprise— and disdain,  it seemed as if the Hakkeshu had returned. And three of them seemingly had returned from the grave. What particular plan they had in mind to potentially empower and revive their dark god, Orochi, she had no inkling regarding the details but this was something which she and the other two Treasures could not and will not allow.

Chizuru had considered a backup. It was something which she had never even thought of in the tournaments prior but then again, there had been very few teams and individuals with exceptional abilities that could meet her expectations but these Turtles… They were something special. She had to consider the possibility that in the event if the Three Sacred Treasures were unable to confront the Hakkeshu, or even advance to the finals— she would have to rely on someone else.

But how would she able to fully trust these newcomers’ level of skill? Already they had managed to defeat the likes of Team Kyokugen, the Psycho Soldiers, Team Fatal Fury, Team Korea, and Team Garou and as of very recently— The Ikari Warriors. From what she was able to see, this was not their first experience in combat. And given their level of skill, it seemed as if they were well trained and exceptionally so. Whoever or whatever these individuals were… they were definitely more than what they had presented themselves to be. They had potential to be something truly great, and this potential might be a valuable asset to keep the world protected from Orochi. She had looked to the television screen in front of her and reached out with her right hand, now taking hold of the remote and hit the pause button— the screen would freeze on the frame of Leonardo claiming his victory over Leona Heidern, who had managed to briefly tap into the dark power within her blood.

It was settled… If she wanted to know how the Turtles were going to be of help, or if they were going to be of any help, then she would have to use the power of her family’s own sacred treasure— the Yata Mirror.

“It has been a while since I’ve done this… It’s been only twice since I’ve used the power of my family’s sacred artifact to create doppelgangers. I’ve only used it to create a copy of dear Maki, and of Kyo Kusanagi. But I need to know if my faith is not misplaced in these four.”

Chizuru then had turned and moved towards the cabinet closest to her and reached out with both hands and took hold of the handles, opening the doors and looked inside to see her family’s sacred artifact within. She gently took hold of it and stared upon the reflective surface of the Yata Mirror, gently brushing a hand against it. With a firm nod, she knew what needed to be done and with resolve she would see this through until the end. With a deep breath, Chizuru Kagura then summoned the energy within and would begin to conduct the ritual needed, reciting Japanese incantations. Creating a doppelganger was easy enough if it was just one but… four at a single time was something which she had never really done before. She would hope that it would suffice for what she needed it to do. With the incantations still being recited and the necessary gestures of her hand, all now she would need is a reflection.

She held the mirror in her grasp and raised it to get a reflection of the Turtles from the television screen. And in no time, the mirror illuminated with power.

Four forms began to emerge from the light within the mirror… She smiled softly as it seemed she may have reached her goal.

After having getting a good night’s rest and allowing themselves to have a hearty breakfast for the next few matches which could await them, the Turtles had been informed as to where their next bout was going to be held. To their surprise, it was in an area which was quite familiar to them— Manhattan. More often that was territory which they had often patrolled when they were keeping an eye out for activity from the New York Foot clan as well as other suspicious activities from local gangs and anything else which warranted their attention. As they knew many of the areas in New York, it wouldn’t be long for the Turtles to get there. After all, they had been informed of the street and the location where in Manhattan where their next match was going to be set.

“You know, we’ve fought a bunch of people with strange and unusual powers… What else do you think we’re going to be facing?” Donatello asked.

“Dunno. Don’t care… But as long as we keep on doing our best, we should be fine.” Raphael responded.

“Easy for you to say… You’re the one that’s got the win streak. I mean you carried us through that fight against Team Fatal Fury, so you’re coming out of this the most. I mean you’re getting max EXP and leveling up!” Michelangelo chuckled as he shook his head.

Raphael turned his head and gave a deadpanned stare to his younger brother, and he shook his head in a nonchalant manner. While it was indeed true that Raphael had carried his team in that one instance—none of the battles which he had endured against Team Fatal Fury had been easy. But he would concede that Michelangelo had something of a point, he had learned how to deal with these opponents that possessed these unusual abilities.

“We’re ALL learning something from this Michelangelo, like Master Splinter wanted us to attend this competition for. And we’re all trying our best here.  We have to be ready for whatever our next opponents might throw at us.” Leonardo spoke.

Donatello looked over to his older brother and formed something of a wry smile on his face.

“Your last opponent really pushed you, Leonardo. I’m just curious to how far she was going to take it, especially with that form she entered in… Like Mikey said, she was going Super Saiyan!”

The four brothers entered into an alley way as directed by the tournament staff as they approached the area. They all looked around themselves, curious as to where their next opponents were going to be. Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael surveyed their surroundings and yet… nothing out of place was seen here. To the Turtles, this was just their typical alley in Manhattan.

However, Leonardo had paused in his tracks— and he quickly moved his arms up and then took hold of the twin ninjaken within his grasp and drew the twin blades out. Suddenly, there would be movement from the air and he looked ahead to see a set of three shurikens coming right at him. The red masked leader then swung his arms apart, moving his ninjaken swords in a scissors manner and deflected the spinning blades. He didn’t even so much as take the time to pay attention to the deflected shurikens and now looked up to see… Four familiar shapes.

“BOOYAKASHA!!” One of the four shapes shouted quite gleefully.

Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo rushed to Leonardo’s aide as they immediately drew their weapons. And then they stared ahead only to pause in their tracks, completely and utterly surprised to see… four familiar faces but at the same time… unfamiliar, save for one of them.

“SERIOUSLY?! MORE MULTICOLORED BANDANA WANNABES?!” Raphael shouted.

“Wait a minute… I’ve seen the one with the purple mask before and gap teeth, he was with the pudgy alternate Donatello with the purple mask and lettered belt buckle!” Leonardo spoke out.

The four shapes stepped forward, and they sported masks with blue, orange, purple and red. They appeared similar but there were differences between these doppelgangers and the Turtles. They appeared younger, and had three toes instead of two like the red masked Turtles had. But it was unmistakable who these doppelgangers were.

“Guess you’re the competition!” The blue masked Leonardo spoke out.

“Umm.. You’ve said you’ve seen us before, but… have we really met? I mean, I don’t know who you guys are supposed to be but it’s very clear that you’re totally copping our style!” The purple masked Donatello spoke.

This left the red masked Turtles confused as they had recalled seeing the purple masked Donatello doppelganger before. They were wondering if this was even the same Donatello that had come with the pudgy Donatello when they were jumping through the multiverse…

“And WE’RE the wannabe’s? Ooooh ho ho ho… Runnin’ you guys down is gonna be REAL fun!” Raphael’s doppelganger grinned.

“Duuuuuude… This is like… a video game mirror match! I call player one!” The orange masked Michelangelo spoke out.

The red masked brothers then looked over to one another and already they couldn’t believe how exaggerated these other Turtles were. But then again, this shouldn’t have come off as a surprise to them seeing as they had come across two other Turtle teams which had similar but different, and sometimes exaggerated characteristics similar to themselves. They couldn’t help but recall how… grating it was to be in the presence of the pudgy Turtles with the multicolored masks and lettered belt buckles when they went up against Utrom Shredder and his Technodrome. Well, if they were going to be fighting alternate versions of themselves— it might as well be a learning experience.

“Alright, let’s make this interesting…” Leonardo gruffly spoke.

He stepped forward and eyed his blue masked counterpart, and the doppelganger stepped forward.

Both paused as they stared at one another, neither saying a word to one another. To Leonardo, it was so weird to be staring into the eyes of his blue masked doppelganger. He could see the similarities between himself and this alternate version— but the differences were also staggering. This other Leonardo looked to be more… youthful, more expressive as far as his eyes appeared anyway.  The blue masked Leonardo moved his arms back and took hold of his own twin blades, now spinning them as he drew them out from his sheaths which were slung over his shoulders. Both were unrelenting in their stare, staring and examining one another.

Both then twirled their ninjaken within their hands, and entered into their respective fighting stances— and Leonardo noted how much the same the other was in his posture.

“I don’t know where you came from, or if you’re some messed up clone created by the Foot… But don’t think I am going to hold back just because you’re some other version of me.” The red masked Leonardo spoke.

“I wouldn’t expect anything less!”

Immediately, Leonardo and the blue masked doppelganger slashed their blades— metal clanged and locked with one another as the red and blue masked Turtles glared to one another.

Truly, this match was one which none of the red masked Turtles were expecting— especially Leonardo. Had Master Splinter been here, he would say that the greatest challenge would be to fight against one’s self. And in this case, it was quite literal…

Now the match between two Turtle teams would kick off with the battle between their respective leaders. But which Leonardo would still be standing and which would be the one to fall? The outcome would be one both sides were eager to see.

The next match in my Mirage TMNT storyline has been finally added and after a week of much debating as to who the next opponents were going to be, I finally decided on a match which hopefully might catch my readers by surprise. I couldn't decide as to whether or not if I wanted to have the Turtles take on characters from the Samurai Shodown series, or have them fight Team Japan, the Hakkeshu, or some other team from the KOF games. And then I realized that I have a bunch of TMNT characters who are unused and probably would make for a decent match up-- so I decided the next opponents were going to be the 2012 Nickelodeon TMNT. In the set up, you'll catch some references to the two previous crossovers with the Turtles that have occured within TMNT canon, specifically Turtles Forever and the episode Trans-Dimensional Turtles from the 2012 show, where the Mirage Turtles encountered 2012 and 1987 Donatello when they jump into the Mirage Universe.

As for the recap, that was the hardest part to write up because I wasn't really too impressed with Whip's fighting style, and I even had some videos to demonstrate her moveset to be but nothing really stood out so, I really didn't incorporate too much of her techniques and moves into the recap. Personally, I am not too happy with the recap but that's just the way SNK made Whip... But that match is done and now hopefully this one will be a lot more interesting than that one.

Also, while I am indeed using the 2012 Nickelodeon Turtles, they're not the REAL 2012 Nick Turtles as these are just shadow copies which took greatly exaggerated personality traits from the Turtles and while instead of coming out as 100% copies of the Mirage Turtles, Chizuru more or less created the 2012 Turtles, or rather... shadow copies which was completely unintended on her part. But none the less, they're doppelgangers.

This is going to be a battle of attrition at this here!

For new readers who are just hopping onto this storyline here, I suggest you look at the Mirage TMNT Respect Thread to see what the Mirage Turtles are more than capable of.

Leonardo (Mirage) is Low Tier Superhuman in terms of physicals. Think Above Peak Human due to his mutation and training.

Leonardo (Mirage) possesses his Twin Ninjaken, Shurikens, Smoke Bombs, and Kunai.

Wow, you said the next opponents would be completely unexpected and yeah...

Mirage is the most bad ass of the turtles (although I still think the 2002 versions are the best incarnation overal).

Mirage Leo get's my vote.

Thanks for commenting!

Canonically, the Mirage Turtles fought the 2003 Turtles and the 1987 Turtles at the same time.. and won.

C’mon Rakai that doesn’t count and you know it. The 2003 Turtles clearly weren’t trying to fight them, they were focused on talking them down and they eventually succeeded. If that were a real fight then it would have been a lot closer.

But for the Leonardo (Mirage) vs Leonardo (2012) fight, I was never really impressed by the 2012 Turtles, wasn’t a fan of the bulky animation style or the childish portrayal of the turtles. I’ll vote for Mirage Leo.

If this were Mirage vs 2003 Turtles though, my answer would be very different.

In my book it does count because the 2003 and 1987 Turtles were forced to defend themselves against a much more aggressive version of themselves and there's also the intimidation factor that the Mirage Turtles had which completely demoralized the two other teams. Demoralize the opposition, they might as well be butter in someone's hands.

The Mirage Turtles were ready to kill the two other teams until 2003 Leo mentioned Shredder.

I love the 2003 Turtles, they're one of the best out there but Mirage Turtles took that fight for aggressiveness and demoralizing through intimidation.

The 2012 Nick Turtles were definitely catered to a younger audience but then again, so were every incarnation of the Turtles that came after Mirage, save for of course the IDW Turtles. I didn't watch the 2012 Nick Turtles series because I felt that it was too childish to me but as the seasons went on, they started maturing and getting into darker and more dire things, even having to cope with Master Splinter's death towards the tail end of the series.

I do regret not watching the 2012 series but I prefer the comics.

If this were Mirage vs 2003 Turtles though, my answer would be very different.

No arguments there. I think that had 2003 Leo and Mirage Leo were to have a rematch, it would be much closer but I didn't want to repeat that and instead opted for a different Leonardo here.

Also, 2012 Leo does have some minor Ki based abilities to heal himself and others with the Healing Hands technique he learned in the later seasons but doing that takes time... and that's something Mirage Leo will try not to allow him to have.

Great set-up as usual, Rakai. You might not have been satisfied with the Mikey/Whip recap, but it looked good to me.

Interesting twist indeed for this arc, and with references to the animated TMNT crossovers throughout! :) I haven't seen the final season of TMNT 2012 yet, so I'm not exactly sure how good the Turtles get in the end. Leo was somehow able to slay Super Shredder at the end of Season 4, though, and I think 2012 Super Shredder was close to a physical match for the big exosuit Ch'rell used against Splinter and the Turtles at the end of the '03 series' third season.

Still, I believe Mirage Leo has taken on tougher opponents and won, and also has more experience and more of a ruthless streak than 2012 Leo. If we take both of their showings on average into account, I would think that Mirage Leo should prevail here.

I'm not even sure the Healing Hands would even really be a factor in a fight. IIRC, it seemed to take Leo some time to do the incantation and intricate hand gestures required to trigger it, and he wouldn't have the time to conjure the Healing Hands in an actual battle.

Yeah, I wanted to reference the two crossovers which the Mirage Turtles had with the 1987, 2003 and the 2012 Turtles as seen in Turtles Forever and Trans-Dimensional Turtles. As for the 2012 Nick series, I haven't really watched it save for a few episodes. I initially really didn't like how childish the show came off initially, and the designs of the characters but they've grown on me and one episode they did, A Chinatown Ghost Story, which was a semi-crossover with Big Trouble in Little China, opened my eyes to the show but I never really watched it still... I regret not having watched it when it was airing at the time.

If you count the matches in this arc for Mirage Leonardo, then that's something which might give him an edge as the purpose of this arc is to give them the experience in dealing with opponents whom they've never really faced in the official stories and to get readers to consider the experiences they've built in dealing with empowered or skilled opponents. But even then if you choose to discount that, then Mirage Leo's likely taken on the tougher opponents and has more experience and the ruthless streak going for him compared to 2012 Leo.

And yes, the Healing Hands technique does take time to do and requires incantations and intricate hand gestures to perform it. Even Death Battle had their composite Leo take time out to perform it.

The recap was pretty good here too Rakai, and although you might feel it to a be a tad weak at times, I feel as though it both works and works well given how limited Whip tended to be with her abilities and how she used them in the source material she emanated from.

More specifically, I liked how you portrayed Mikey's thinking side and his battle planning abilities, the things that most people forget when they think of the turtle as being just the class clown of the group. The ways in which he plans and takes the time to devise a strategy of getting to the vulnerable areas of Whip, in spite of her range and offensive capabilities, is a pretty innovative one, and his cut her whip in two with a kunai, isn't one that I immediately thought of when thinking over that match, but is in effect a pretty innovative, in my opinion, so I have to commend you on how you wrote that and devise that course of action for the story.

Good job on all of that, and even better on the story elements that you're implementing into the plot, as we find out about Chizuru Kagura's monitoring of the Turtles and their progress in the tournament, as these things aid in opening the door to more plot elements and opportunities for the story to veer in certain directions that benefit both sets of characters respective universes in the long run, again good job on that.

2012 Leo is pretty tough by most accounts, having defeated Super Shredder, landing a hit on his version's Splinter, beating his brothers on occasion, and even becoming a sensei with the knowledge of pressure points attacks and healing hands, are all things that place him above certain other variants of the Turtles, and are admirable attributes to who he is and his character as a whole. Certainly, he will provide the Mirage version of Leonardo one hell of a fight, as his skills and abilities, combined with his general knowledge of how he and his counterpart may think, will aid in his efforts to attempt to pin his comic book counterpart.

But, I do believe that in spite of that, the Mirage Leo will still prove superior even here, as he has more experience in his career as a Ninja Turtle and martial artist, and as he no doubt has prepared, at least in some potential sense to face opponents who can match himself in combat, not because of any other reason but out of a desire to improve himself. The 2012 Leo is by no means egotistical, but he also doesn't seem to be the type to train or even prepare for the possibility of facing off against himself in any real capacity, as he is, in his the universe, the only Leonardo he knows, which leaves a gape in his knowledge, training and skills. Put into practice, by not having the need to face someone of similar ability and skill, 2012 Leo is going to be at a disadvantage when facing Mirage Leo, as Mirage Leo would have probably prepared a bit more from the last encounter with his variants, unto the point that he wouldn't be as out of practice when going up against another version,  whereas the 2012 Leo, without that experience or need to prep himself for an encounter with another version of himself, would be lacking and thus be open to more opportunities of being out skilled and out strategized by his comic book counterpart.

A very good and in depth analysis on how this battle can be broken down! I wanted to give Mirage Leonardo a fight which would push him to his best and what better than a fight against an alternate version of himself.

Thank you for the comments and the analysis here! It's much appreciated!

Great set up!

From what I could see and find. The mirage Turtles are some of the most brutal and skilled of the different incarnations. I'd say that Mirage Leo should the this

That was a curbstomp. 2012 Leonardo never stood a chance!

To be fair, the Mirage Turtles never fought the 2012 Turtles.

I would have thought that 2012 Leo get some votes for popularity as the 2012 series was a hit and very successful.
