What all hobbies do you guys have outside of EF, comics, movies, etc?

I have been wanting to get into D&D, but the few people that I know where I live that do it, don't know if they want to do another game outside of their respective groups.

Also want to get into wood working but don't know where to begin or what all tools are recommended. Things also cost money and didn't know if there were cheaper ways to go about it

Thought a Hobbies thread would be kind of cool,if one does not already exist

I write original fiction I currently have two short stories published and am about to have a third short published. I also post a few on DeviantArt that I don't think would have a shot at publishing. Happy to provide links or give advice.

Yeah I'm also into gaming, both video and boardgames. I've been working on quite the collection.

I also love history stuff, so I'm pretty happy about being stationed in the UK now. Sadly Covid Lockdowns have put a crimp in opportunities to see more historical sites.

Been wanting to get back into HEMA historical fencing.... but that has not been fruitful.

Hmm, you wish to get into DnD... Discord groups is how my wife and I play. But you're in San Antonio right? I'd definitely chat with people at a place called Knight Watch. It's pretty much a tabletop/board game store where many groups meet. There's even a class on how to make a DnD character. Dragon's Lair comics is another good resource. Might get lucky and find some fledgling groups.

What are your short stories about? I'd be interested in reading them. Also what all boardgames? My wife and I have some boardgames and stuff. Like to have some in case we have folks over.

Not San Antonio. I'm in the north east corner of Texas. Near Arkansas and Louisiana. There is a comic book store here but since getting married, I don't get to go there very often. I may try to check out Discord.

I write mostly scifi/fantasy stories. I have a lot of nonhuman protagonists as I find it fun to use different mannerisms to express themselves. I have plenty of human characters too though. My published ones is a scifi story about an alien girl that works as a hunting guide on a dangerous planet. She pretty much looks like a bipedal jackal. The other is like a combo of Redwall/DnD about a ferret thief.

Most of our boardgames are two player but not all some favorites: Fox in the Forest, Spirits of the Wild, Stratego. Ticket to Ride, Splendor, Castle Panic, The Quest for El Dorado. Also Expedition which is like a scaled down DnD style game played with cards and a phone app.

Ahh, I see pretty close to where I spent most my life then. I'm from Marshall TX originally. Funny enough my first duty station was Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, really close to home.

Those definitely sound fun and I'd be interested in reading those!

Those sound like fun games. We got Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, and then some other ones. Don't play too much but figured if we have guests over, its always fun to play something

Im about hour or so north of Marshall and an hour half from Shreveport. Not too far from that area.

Like I said before, I want to get into wood working and try to build things. When looking at tools, they seem outrageous in price, but I guess starting somewhere is how to get it going.

I have been meaning to looking into Discord but seems like everything I start to look it up, I get busy with something else entirely.

I find two player games, or games that can be played with just two is a great time for some husband and wife bonding. Especially if they're cooperative like Castle Panic or Forbidden Desert.

Yeah guess it's something you just need to save some money for and just slowly build your way up. I'm sure you can find cheaper tools that aren't brand new.

I know the feeling it happens to me too. Sometimes I take months to finally do something I meant to earlier.

If you're trying out woodworking, are there any type of maker spaces near you? I realize with Covid everything is up in the air, but that might be a good way to get your hands on some basic tools. They also have a space and might have people around who wouldn't mind showing a new person around.

Also, I second the two player game idea. If you haven't looked into Mysterium, I would definitely recommend it, if only for the artwork. Codenames has a two player version which is also incredibly easy to pick up.

As for hobbies, I am really thinking about making my own cider this year. I know it's kind of a cliché to get into brewing your own beer and all that, but it does sound rather interesting.

I may look into that as far as maker spaces. I don't know of any but its always worth a look.

I'll definitely check out Mysterium! My parents got Codenames for my wife for her birthday and I think I got Codenames duet for mine. That one is definitely a good one. My wife likes to play blokus with me, so that's the one we usually do every other night

Let me know how that turns. I'm not into drinking myself but I always thought it'd be fun creating your own brew

I do a lot lol.

As of right now I'm just working my full time, working DoorDash, and playing Dead by Daylight with my wife.

Been trying to keep up with CBUB, but I'm not as active as I really want to be. Haven't made time to write but really enjoy it and have written a lot over the years. I play videogames and binge TV too. Just watched all of that Cecil Hotel show which was pretty good.

I run freestyle RPs with me and my wife and our friend sometimes. Been doing that for a number of years and I like doing it, just really consuming when we do it and don't make time for other stuff.

We play board games too. Our favorites are Betrayal at the House on the Hill and Zombicide.
