No, we'll just roll with it unless you yourself want to take a mulligan on them. In that case I'll let you re-pick.

Two questions.

1. Can I repick my entertainer. I was initially going for a theme that's long gone now.

2. Can the entertainer have powers as long as they are not using said powers to affect their audiences in any way?

Yeah, I don't really get the 'Theme' concept.  It doesn't seem to help the team that tries it or add value to the season's fights in general.  But to each their own!

You can take a mulligan on a slot if you want. I'll send the team back to you.  But, no - no powers on the entertainers.  There can be nothing that people can refer to as an unnatural assist to the performance.  That includes Dazzler's mutant generated light show.

But, yeah if someone wants a re-pick I can send your team back to you to change out a slot.

I would also argue that Kisame is too powerful for the anime slot. His physicals are probably okay-ish, but like all Naruto characters, swords aren't his primary weapon. He's literally too powerful in that he's got too many powers. Relative to the street-tier for the Marvel/DC tier, he would be way too powerful. I'm not an expert on Naruto, but some people on the Discord agreed that he might be too powerful

I understand completely.

Anime operates by completely different rules than Marvel/DC so, I honestly don't think they are comparable.

Seriously, I can define a Marvel/DC slot as 2 ton Max lift and look what happens!  We get a really well balanced slot for season 5 with characters that are all really in the same ballpark with one another.  That's great.

Anime doesn't work that way as far as I can tell from watching 100+ series on Crunchyroll.  Anime characters always get more powerful in relation to their opponents.  And, once the opponents become stupidly overpowered, then the main character becomes stupidly overpowered.  It seems like a vicious cycle.

Anyways, this is the first time we've really worked with an Anime specific slot.  At this point I'm thinking let's just roll with it this season and see how it turns out.

It's a lot of work to try and get people to re-pick their teams and, really, people who aren't into ANime have no idea what they are doing in this slot. They are just Googling up something that looks cool.

Totally understandable. Anime is inherently really hard to balance. It's a hard category and there are inevitably going to be outliers, especially because concrete feats are a lot rarer there than in comics

Right on. Yeah, seems like the Slot is causing some to sit out the season as is, like @DSkillz so, you know, we may have to see how we can work a little Anime in here and there in a way that makes sense for players in general.

I had to call in help on that category...but other than the anime one this has been my favorite season to roll with. Seems like a lot of creative matchups.

Something new this Season, the algorithm that chooses matches to make each round will have a new component to it.  It has a concept of slots it prefers to match, now.  This is going to be a key thing in the early rounds where it tries to match all of a particular slot, say all the Entertainers,  up in matches in that round.

If you play in the two preferred slots each round, though the first 3 rounds, you'll get a better idea the slots you are more competitive.  Could affect your benching strategy.

I will announce which slots the program will prefer to draw from ahead of time.

Actually, I haven't really made up my mind on joining in just yet. We have two weeks to fill out rosters before the Draft begins, right?

Gee, I don't know.

It will either start next Saturday, or the following Saturday.  Depends on if I'm finished with all the image files for Slot Challenges next week.  It takes longer than you might think.

If I can get them done by next weekend, I'll start it.

Hmmm.... Suddenly I don't know if my choice will actually sweep that category.

Who was your choice and why did you assume he would sweep?

Stipe Miocic, current UFC heavyweight champ and arguably the best heavyweight mixed martial artist ever. (thus overall best)

I figured this slot would be a lot of actual fighting, so I assumed someone considered possibly the best fighter ever would do very well.

He's still big and strong and has legitimate grappling skills, but if he goes up against 300 lbs of muscle in a sumo contest that could sway some people.

I don't know that that would necessarily make him better than, say, a professional boxer in a boxing match. Also, people like The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar make very legitimate arguments for beating him depending on how you interpret WWE feats

Yes! Loving that and all the potential cool matchups in that slot. : )

In a straight boxing match against a professional boxer? No, of course not. I just think my expectations of the slot are not matching what's come out so far. Oh well, the randomness can make this fun.

And I generally interpret WWE feats as kinda silly in a real fight, since pro wrestling is just a soap opera targeted at men.

I can understand what you mean with the WWE wrestlers, but they definitely are "canonical" feats that often intersect with real fighters

I think the Wild West slot is going to be a little hard to evaluate and debate simply because folks mostly didn't seem to lean in hard in finding wild west hero picks that stood out.

Nobody went after Dynamite specialists, or knife specialists or Native American heroes.  Nobody dug in to the plethora of Hollywood Westerns in cinema besides a couple of really obvious ones.  I'm actually really disappointed, and I will make it a point to vote down Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey every time it pops up. What a joke.

This was a slot submitted by the community, though, so it is what it is.

I think Leina Vance may also be dubious. From the queensblade wiki

"Dragon Tail: An energy attack that Leina used to either thrust forward with a powerful golden glow, or send the beams forward as a projectile with slashes. In rebellion, the attack is larger and more powerful, now being green energy in the shape of a large japanese dragon, and being blasted forward as a destructive energy beam. It is powerful, as it can destroy large portions of castles and cause massive explosions. It was also strong enough to defeat the demon that was giving Annelotte andi Izumi lots of trouble in a single hit."
