THE JESTER AND THE ALIEN

Harley couldn’t believe it if she tried: she just took down the man trying to help her. During a rooftop chase across Gotham; Batman was catching up. Hoping to lose him, Harley purposely dropped some marbles on the floor, expecting to slow him down. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t fall. Instead, he continued the chase. Knowing she was about to get caught any second; Harley decided to go the route she’d didn’t think about: hopping onto the curtain of an Italian eatery.

In real life; her body would likely tear through the curtain and kill her thanks to the speed she was falling. Batman was predictable too. He follows after her and caught her in mid-fall, followed by firing his grappling hook around a nearby gargoyle and used it to fly up. Harley took her only chance and activated a joy busser against his face. She thought it was set to 50,000 volts, the power of the average taser. Instead, it was at least 100,000. The shock stunned Batman long enough for him to somehow lose his grip and crash onto the busy Gotham streets. What got Harley was what he did.

While slightly stunned, her covered her in his cape, cushioning the damage. When he finally stopped rolling; Harley was the one alive. She could tell because when she shook Batman, there was no response. Knowing full well she just committed a murder she didn’t think about; she escaped.

Harley retreated to Metropolis; living her life of crime by small-time burglary. The jester saw her face in the headlines a few days later

HERO OF GOTHAM SLAIN. PSYCHAOTIC JESTER ON THE RUN

Normally, some of the villains would consider her a crime lord; neigh, goddess. However, she was more afraid of Joker, and the Justice League. Harley know the second any of them find her, whats to stop them? Normally they’d refuse to kill, but she didn’t want to take any risks; especially with Nightwing or whichever Robin was in charge.

Living in an apartment with a new name, job, and ID; Harley felt relief. Maybe she could live a new life, find peace with herself. Sadly, she was living a fool’s dream. During a new day at her new job, Harley was stunned to see the man of steel himself. Superman was always the nicest hero to some, even nicer than Batman. However, he was obviously enraged.

“Ms. Dahlia Quinnith, I presume?†he asked impatiently.

Harley grinned, trying to seem less suspicious.

“That’s me, sir, is there anything I can do?†she asked.

Superman landed, the people of Metropolis themselves scared at his expression. Harley backed up, trying to play it cool.

“Your heart is pounding faster by at least three times its normal speed. Also, I can see your sweat glands opening up. You can drop the act, Ms. Quinn.†Clark stated. Harley gulped loudly; he was obviously not going to be tricked.

“I- I didn’t mean it, okay? I just wanted to play the usual cat-and-mouse game.†Harley testified.

“Now, I wasn’t referring to Batman. For all I knew, it could’ve been Joker. A guilty conscious is quit a pain is it?†Superman replied, shooting her down with his mere presence.

Instead of giving in; Harley decided to do something almost suicidal and ran. By the time she turned around, the man of steel was in front of her, causing her to run directly into his chest and tumble over. Harley didn’t want to give up. Instead, she had a “Plan Câ€. Hidden in her pocket was something she robbed from Batman. Just in case. A ring of kryptonite. Superman’s eyes widened for a second, allowing the scared shitless Harley to run past him, placing the ring on her finger. She was now on the run from Superman himself!

Hiding in her apartment; Harley paced back and forth, looking at her ring. She couldn’t hide forever, hell, for all she knew, Superman could be outside her apartment, playing mind games. While pacing, she flinched from the sound of her phone going off. It was an unknown number. Worried about what could happen; Harley answered, praying it wasn’t Clark’s voice taunting her even further. Instead, it was that of Luther.

â€œMs. Quinn, I take it you’re scared?†Lex asked sarcastically, almost more menacing than Superman.

“Don’t worry, Superman had to go back to the Tower, I provided a distraction by sending Sinestro there, he won’t be back for awhile. Now, why don’t we talk this over? Head to LexCore tonight, 9 PM sharp.†With that, Lex hung up. Harley didn’t have any choice. She wanted to live, and he may have a way to rescue her from her dilemma.

It was 9 PM. Harley was on time, punctual and on the dot. She was escorted to Lex’s personal room where he was waiting for her.

“Hello, Ms. Quinn.†He said calmly. Harley just looked at him, unsure what he was about to say.

“As you know, the Justice League is likely hunting you down, Nightwing and Superman personally are taking it rather seriously. So, how about we cut a deal? I will give you the best weapons, gadgets, and personal armored suit to stand against him, you just give me loyalty and serve inside my company. Governmental immunity.†He offered. Harley was perplexed with his suggestion; scared in fact. Before she could speak up, he resumed.

“Of course, if you refuse… Well, I suppose you by yourself can handle Superman single-handedly with a mere mallet.†He taunted. Harley didn’t have a choice in this manner after all. She accepted, worried.

The night passed; and Harley was heavily armed: a suit powered by Kryptonite, a Themyscrain sword, powered by magic, and several gadgetal doohickeys that allowed her to have powerful offense and defense from sensors capable of detecting light speed and the suit’s own reactor was capable of holding against heat vision.

“Don’t worry, I made sure there were no side effects Ms. Quinn. You now have the ultimate prototype of an Anti-Superman battlesuit. I, hope you enjoy it.â€

Just as Lex finished, a loud crash echoed through the room as Superman crashed in, holding several robotic guards. Harley gulped in fear.

“Are we going to go quietly, Ms. Quinn? Or, are we going to have trouble?â€

Harley had to place her hope into the suit. She could at least rely on her wits to stay ahead. Hopefully, she could find a way to survive, and if he wasn’t going to eat her heart…

RULES

The stage is an open-space room similar to a gym. The fight can extend into the busy Metropolis nightlife.

Harley’s suit is capable of regeneration, powered by Kryptonite in front of her, has lead plating, and adjusts to at least 4,000 degrees f. Superman is unaware of the suit.

Harley also wields a magic backed sword from Themyscria.

Neither side has back-up. Harley can use her wits and trickery while Superman is angry but still has morals on.

This is Post-Crisis but Pre-New 52 versions of both

Great setup and Superman wins. Superman has been up against kryptonite powered suits and  warriors with magically weapons that can hurt him before. I like the idea though of Harley killing Batman by accident and running to Luthor for help. That's something I could see happening for sure.

I think that it's definitely possible that Harley Quinn accidentally killed the vigilante. In this battle scenario, Superman definitely defeats Harley Quinn after a somewhat long battle. He's been up against kryptonite before and has beaten Metallo who is powered by kryptonite. He doesn't need to go "all-out" to defeat her. Like Batman, Superman has an indomitable will and will fight with all he's got.

The big problem for Superman is he won't go into this fight the same way he goes into a fight versus a guy like Metallo. Supes wold start a fight off against a villain like that knowing to swing hard, whereas here he still has his morals and is unlikely to be hitting Harley with enough force to really damage the suit at the beginning of their fight, probably measuring the suit up and becoming weaker as the fight wares on. And even after he finally gets to hitting hard enough to really damage the suit, if he gets there before the kryptonite weakens him too much, the suit does have regenerative abilities, something I don't believe Metallo has.

And let's not forget the magical sword. Superman has often shown a weakness to magic, and it's being wielded by Harley, who would have no qualms about gutting Superman.

Superman has fought Amazons who wielded magic swords that could kill him and won. Also seriously Superman cuts loose with his morals on. Actually in the setup Superman is pissed off as it is with Batman's death. Superman is likely in anger to speed blitz Harley and destroy that suit any way he pleases. Superman has defeated Kryptonite Man who was covered completely in green kryptonite. Superman wins here.

One minute into the fight, and Superman will be "swinging hard" just like against Metallo. He'll definitely damage the suit greatly as the fight goes on. Superman won't just let Harley beat him when he can feel kryptonite since it's his weakness. Also let's remember that Superman will be fighting hard because he's on the verge of panic. Superman actually does best when he's actually panicking because he lets loose much more power. Superman isn't a dumb brute with many powers. Superman is one of the most powerful and intelligent characters in the DC Universe. Also, because the suit has regenerative abilities means that Superman will fight hard enough to stop it before regenerating. He processes thoughts at light-speed and has a genius-level intellect, rivaling the Batman.

Superman does not have a "weakness" to magic. He is just affected by magic like any other person. This means he doesn't have any immunity to it. Superman's dealt with magic on hundreds of occasions. He can handle it one more time.

Anything that can affect Superman the same way it would affect another person should really be considered a weakness.

What?

You're telling me that the man of Steel, who is INVINCIBLE to things that would normally kill a human without powers is equally effected by magic and telling me that's not a weakness?

I think by that very definition that it is a weakness.  It does link up to the actual definition of weakness too: the quality or sate of being weak, also an instance or period of being weak.  If you're invincible you're not hurt by anything.  There are people who are immune to magic but are killed by ramming a sword into their colons.  Magic hurts Superman, ergo it's a weakness.

However, I do agree that Supes probably will win.  With morals on, Supes does still have some brain working on processing ability and won't be in a bloody rage.

He is just as affected by magic as any other person, hence he doesn't have a particular weakness against it.

True but it could still be considered a weakness since its one things that he isn't invulnerable to like he is to explosives or something like that. It's something that can be exploited and used against him, hence a weakness

Did you not read the definition of weakness? The quality or state of being weak also an instance or period of being weak.  Superman can tank missiles, gunfire, and BLACK HOLES but magic is not a weakness because he's effected by it like everyone else?  Yeah no, I'm calling bs on that.  Magical defense is his weakness, ergo magic is a weakness.

No it really isn't a weakness and people seem to get confused with the actually meaning of being affected by magic. Let me explain it clearly because often this is brought up.

Superman can be affected by regular magic meaning people who do Harry Potter or Zatanna like magic just like anybody else. For example I can trip and fall like anyone else. That doesn't mean tripping and falling is my weakness. A weakness would be something that hurts or makes me sick more then everybody else. A special type of illness or food I am allergic to would be an example.

Superman can kick the crap out of a magically powered being such as Thor or Captain Marvel. Unless they do actual magic or use some sort of magic attack them being a magically powered being is not any type of actual weakness to Superman.

That's the best way I can explain it.

You're being unnecessarily pedantic.  "Weakness" rolls off the tongue much more readily than "significantly less invulnerable" or "invulnerable with the exception of...".  Nobody's claiming the sight of a rabbit popping out of a hat will make him keel over in anaphylactic shock.  The phrase "weak vs. magic" works just fine as long as you remember the implied "RELATIVELY" that everybody  instinctively grasps.

Interesting take on DC, Kibax.

If Harley's actively trying to fight Superman instead of trying to escape, I think Supes would win. LexCorp hasn't built anything yet that can take Kal down. He'd be taken off guard initially by the lead, Kryptonite , and Themiscrian sword, but none of this is new to him. After a bit, he'd keep his distance and find a weakness with his x-ray vision (lead plating indicates to me that areas like joints are still uncovered by such) and exploit them with his heat vision (which can reach the heat of the sun; I doubt the armor can hold up to temperatures anywhere near that high) and/or his super-speed.
