CBUB December Challenge

Recommended Posts

The Premise

Monthly, a writing challenge will be posted on this portion of the forums. Anybody who wants to write on the CBUB is able to participate. To participate simply create a match that follows the challenge rules to the CBUB main page. Then post a link to that fight on this page. Only one entry per contestant. There will be a two week deadline to post your match. Miss the deadline? Better luck next month. Special judges will pick their favorite matches based on creativity, uniqueness and all that writing mumbo jumbo. The Top Three winners will be announced here with the main winners fight going to the Official CBUB Hall Of Fame board as the writer of the month.

The Judges

Treacherous, Ruinus, Culwych come to mind, but any past winners that want to judge, pm Treacherous.

The Deadline

Challenge will begin Dec. 1st and end Dec. 15th, so there is plenty of time to prepare.

The Challenge/Rules

1. Your Match must use (and only use) product mascots. Breakfast Cereal, Snack Food, Cleaning Agents, Beer, etc. The contestants must all be official brand mascots of a product.

2. Your match must use either All Animated mascots or All Live Action mascots

Example: Jack (In The Box) is a Live Action product mascot

Example: Mr. Clean is an Animated product mascot

3. In the spirit of the challenge, stick to official product mascots and add to the CBUB Database any which may be missing that you choose to use.

The December Challenge Grand Prize

This month has a prize. The grand prize is a Sixth-Scale, fully pose-able, fully articulated Boba Fett figure from Sideshow Collectables. It is a beautiful and amazingly detailed figure.

View Here: http://www.sideshowt...d=4489&sku=2128

This prize has been ordered new for the winner of the contest.

Prize Eligibility

The prize will be a random drawing from names in a hat.

To be eligible to have your name in the hat at the time of the drawing you must meet these requirements:

1. You must have participated in a previous CBUB Tournament (Prior to this December Tournament) with either an official match entry or as a official match Judge during the year of 2012.

2. You must enter the December Tournament with a Match or be an official December Tournament Judge.

3. You must have a valid mailing address you are willing to provide in the event you win so that Boba Fett can get to you.

There is only one Grand Prize which will be given to one winner who meets the eligibility requirements. This random drawing is a participation prize - just to say thanks for participating in the Tournaments this year. It is open to the people who participated. Good Luck!

Thanks!

Kick ass, man! A prize! I'm definitely going to participate in this one\

EDIT: Would characters that are not necessarily mascots, but are recognizable as the face of the company, count for the purposes of this challenge? I.E. Mario for Nintendo

It kind of depends. Really looking for creators to interestingly use Product Brand Mascots. Not necessarily the "Face of a Company" like Spider-Man (Marvel) or Mickey Mouse (Disney).

The successful participant will find an interesting way to leverage a character that, on it's own, is rarely seen outside of commercials and advertisements. That's the Challenge.

EDIT: if it helps, try perusing this list for ideas http://coolrain44.wordpress.com/2009/08/01/most-popular-brand-advertising-mascots-of-all-time/

Hold on for a bit if some of you are already writing matches for this challenge. There are actually a few mascot characters that need to be re-added, as they've been submitted and added in the wrong categories. Shouldn't really take too long.

Aw, shit. I don't think I've ever managed to put one up... but, I'll participate anyway. Dibs on Lucky Charms, fools.

Is anybody besides G4 aware that this is going on? Or that they could win very expensive geek swag? Where is that one dude that complained that the winner should get gifts?

Hm... I'll have to add Fruit Brute... but I may try my hand in this one too.

Oh and....

Let's see if Tim, from that Doritos commercial in the Superbowl last year, is in the database... if not, I must add him.

EDIT: Are we giving the mailing address to Treach or Fox?

And regardless of that answer, is it preemptive or after you win?

I'll just request the winner PM me their address. Thanks!

Another question: Are we strictly making one-on-one matches for this, or can a match involve as many characters as the writer wishes? I know the judges have typically preferred that one-on-one matches be entered in the past.

and if nobody is going to show interest, hell I'm going for that figure myself.

if you were a judge in the 2012 and are judging in Dec. you meet the eligibility and will be in the hat.

A hell I don't care. Use all the product mascots you can fit into a match. And if you have to add them to the CBUB Database (Morris the Cat, Pillsbury Doughboy, Charlie the Tuna anyone?) then so much the better because I'm hoping we get some additions out of this.

Alright, go fot it, you guys. Several mascot characters have been re-added and placed in their proper categories.

Alright, thanks. I just wanted to make sure it was clear with everyone. I do have a one-on-one-one matchup in mind, but I have to get to Rank 4 first. Shouldn't really be a problem.

And yes, we do need more product mascots added. Since character and image adding was re-opened, I've probably personally added most mascots to the databases than anyone that's not a reviewer.

Hmm... we could compile a list of all there are into total...

The list in the link Fox provided here should help with that. We should really let any member that wants to use an unadded mascot for a match try to add them on their own, though, to prove that they're showing interest in this challenge.

Oh im sorry i add him into cbub for this challenge sorry.

Yeah, while it's good that you're into the spirit of the challenge as far as adding mascot characters, slow down a bit with your character adding, khoi. I only re-added the characters that I did recently because they were placed in the wrong category (my bad for that, BTW) and deleting them after they were used in matches would have affected the matchmakers' records.

That's perfectly alright, you saved me some work. But yeah please cool off your numbers quite a bit, it will take people a while to process all these new additions.
