Thanks. It has been awhile since you've commented on one of the matches. I am still grateful that you were one of the few keeping them alive for awhile. -
GAINING AN EDGE: A MASSIVE FIGHTING GAME CROSSOVER PART 182 Jin Kazama and Sogetsu Kazama battled back and forth on the top floor of the Mishima Zaibatsu with neither man able to put the other down for good. (REF: SOGETSU KAZAMA VS. JIN KAZAMA) Jin kicked Sogetsu in the air and followed with two knee strikes and a roundhouse kick. Before he could complete another combo, Sogetsu conjured a geyser of water from the ground to knock Jin backward. Sogetsu then lunged at Jin and slashed him across the chest with his sword. He slashed downward to take out Jin’s feet, but the Mishima Zaibatsu CEO jumped over the sword slash and landed a jumping kick across Sogetsu’s face. The two men then charged at each other with elevated knee strikes. A discharge of electricity filled the air when the two knees connected with each other. Jin immediately followed with a right cross punch that spun out Sogetsu. Sogetsu fired a water bubble projectile from his hands that exploded in front of Jin and broke his rhythm. Sogetsu capitalized on this by slipping into a water portal of his own creation and reappearing behind Jin. He slashed at Jin’s back and then followed with a jumping overhead slash. Jin stumbled backward. The two were joined on the top floor by Crimson Viper, who went in search of them after her victory over Asuka Kazama. (REF: ASUKA KAZAMA VS. CRIMSON VIPER) She had wondered if Jin would need her help but decided instead to watch the two fight from a safe distance. “You are even stronger than I had thought, but it is time to end this,” Sogetsu declared. He lifted his enchanted Blue Dragon blade into the air. “I will strike you down with the same sword that defeated and then trapped the water demon, Suija. How fitting for a devil.” “No,” Jin retorted. Jin evaded a couple of lunges from Sogetsu and got in close to the blue haired warrior’s body with a quick succession of strikes. A red aura surrounded Jin as he continued his punching assault on Sogetsu. Red electricity began to surround his punches and the final punch from Jin sent Sogetsu crashing into the wall. “This is reality, you are not on my level,” Jin seethed. Jin charged up his fist to lay a potential final blow on Sogetsu who was now bleeding from his lip. Sogetsu waited until Jin got in closer before again sinking into a water portal and reappearing behind Jin. This time Sogetsu went with his strongest move and attacked Jin with a barrage of quick slashes and then knocked him into the air with a pillar of water. Once in the air, Sogetsu trapped Jin in a large water bubble. Sogetsu formed water blades with his hands and threw them into the bubble intending to fill the liquid prison with his descendant’s blood. Sogetsu put all the energy he had into the water blades and collapsed to one knee. The large blue water bubble then turned red and exploded. Sogetsu expected to see the defeated body of Jin Kazama collapse to the ground, instead the Devil form of Jin levitated in the air where the bubble once was. He glared with anger and rage at Sogetsu and shot him with a laser beam. Devil Jin then flew over Sogetsu, grabbed him by the head and dragged him across the floor before shooting him twice more with a laser beam from his forehead. Sogetsu lay motionless on the ground a few feet from Jin’s throne. Crimson Viper slowly approached Devil Jin. It was the first time she had seen him in this form in person and his menacing aura was not lost on her. She figured he would immediately transform back to his normal form, but he didn’t. “What now?” she asked. “Now, we go on the offensive, we attack!” Devil Jin exclaimed. After he declared this intention, Jin did revert to his normal self and walked over to some video screens by the large platform elevator. He pointed at a screen showing news footage of a large orange explosion by the G-Corporation Millenium Tower. (REF: MAKI GENRYUSAI VS. MAI SHIRANUI) “Have you seen this? While we were scouring the globe for any remnant of Soul Edge we could find, he had already weaponized it.” “You are sure that explosion was somehow caused by Soul Edge?” Viper inquired. “I recognize that orange hue anywhere. It’s no different than the initial shards brought to us by Nina,” Jin explained. (REF: AYANE VS. NINA WILLIAMS) “If that is true what is Kazuya’s angle?” Viper wondered. “He is ready to make his move, and he is showing it off,” Jin answered. “While I have been stuck here fighting off my ancestors (REF: JIN KAZAMA VS. KAZUKI KAZAMA), he may have already located the sword.” “That would be most unfortunate,” Viper commented. “The risk is too great not to move in on him now,” Jin decided. “We take the fight to his doorstep and capture Soul Edge for ourselves. And then I will destroy the devil gene once and for all.” Crimson Viper motioned toward Sogetsu. “What about him?” “Have him placed alongside his brother and strip the shards of Soul Edge from him. If my father can weaponize the shards then so can we. They may prove very useful,” stated Jin. Crimson Viper nodded and the two made plans for their assault on the Millenium Tower. —------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The butterfly kunoichi, Ayane, darted across the rooftops of Japan to join with her fellow Mugen Tenshin ninjas in their planned raid on Kazuya Mishima and the G-Corporation. Ayane had recently learned from Ryu Hayabusa that her sect of the Mugen Tenshin, the Hanjimon, had been entrusted to an outsider by clan leader Hayate. (REF: GUY VS. RYO SAKAZAKI) After tracking down Hayate, he informed her that the man’s name was Ryo Sakazaki and he was simply helping the Hanjimon in their mission to take down a potential threat and energy source for the evil feeding sword, Soul Edge. (REF: DHALSIM VS. RYUJI YAMAZAKI) The target was the nefarious G Corporation. Ayane knew of the organization by reputation and surprisingly stout military force given that it was ostensibly a biotech firm. Ayane knew its leader and CEO, Kazuya Mishima, was a dangerous man and she figured a direct confrontation with the son of Heihachi was imminent. As she got closer to the Millenium Tower, she hopped over the rooftops in the medical district. An unexpected sight snagged Ayane’s attention. She did a double take just to make sure before confirming that yes it was the Ba Ji dancing fighter, Kokoro, Helena Douglas’s half sister. Currently, Kokoro was in a precarious position. She was on the ground bleeding at the feet of a mysterious ninja with short dark hair and a blue outfit that was surprisingly well lit in the moonlight. (REF: KOKORO VS. SHIKI) Ayane usually desired to steer clear of getting involved with whatever machinations Helena and her allies were involved in, however she did respect Kokoro and did not want to see the sweet girl die. In the courtyard below, the intimidating figure lingered above Kokoro and lifted her two blades to finish her off. She was stopped by an explosion of purple butterflies right in front of her. When the smoke cleared, Ayane stood between Kokoro and her would-be executioner, Shiki. “I do not recognize you or your gear,” stated Ayane. “What clan are you from?” “I have no clan. Not anymore.” Shiki replied. Ayane scrunched her nose in disgust. “Another deserter, how pathetic. What business do you have with Kokoro?” “She was simply in my way,” Shiki answered. “You were going to kill her just for being an obstacle?” asked Ayane. “What better way to ensure that she will not be an obstacle again,” Shiki reasoned. “Well unfortunately for you, I have a big problem with that,” stated Ayane. “Your concerns are unimportant,” responded Shiki. “Only the mission matters.” “What mission?” Kokoro struggled to speak. “She was killing a young guy…. when I found her in the hospital.” (REF: SHIKI VS. YANG) “You should save your breath, you don’t have much of it left,” Shiki warned. “Ayane, please, you have to stop her before she kills anyone else,” Kokoro pleaded. Ayana gazed down at Kokoro then back at Shiki whose expression had remained blank and emotionless throughout the entire exchange. “Do you intend to be another obstacle in my way?” Shiki finally asked.

GAINING AN EDGE: A MASSIVE FIGHTING GAME CROSSOVER PART 181 The old assassin, Gen, seamlessly transitioned from his defensive Mantis style to his offensive Crane style to try and take down the brazenly confident Ash Crimson. (REF: GEN VS. ASH CRIMSON) Unfortunately for Gen, the young and spry Ash was able to avoid his techniques while simultaneously tagging Gen with green fire projectiles. Still the tough Chinese fighter persisted. On the other end of the fight it soon became clear to Ash that if he wanted to put Gen down for good he would have to do it up close. Ash was wary of getting entangled in a hand to hand fight after witnessing Gen’s deadly skill so he thought of an alternate approach. He immersed himself in his own emerald flame giving him a green glow that acted as both a shield from attack and a temporary energy boost. Utilizing this energy boost, Ash performed four consecutive Nivose flip kicks burning Gen with emerald flames with each hit. He then hit Gen with a twirling Floreal kick to knock the assassin back. Ash conjured up arrows of green fire and shot them at Gen. After a few of the arrows made contact they turned into a green tornado of fire that engulfed Gen and rendered him immobile and unconscious. Ash wiped some blonde hair away from his eyes and exhaled. “Now that that is over with, where was I.” He turned his attention back to the prone body of the legendary hero king, Algol. Ash phased his hand into Algol’s chest to steal the power of Soul Calibur and Soul Edge away from him. The surge of power was initially overwhelming for Ash and he pulled his hand back out, newly concerned that he wouldn’t be able to control such power. For the first time, Ash wondered if he had the right plan. Ash’s internal debate was interrupted by his phone ringing. Usually he would simply ignore it, but on the other end was the one person he would always make time for. “Ash!” “I’m a little occupied right now,” Bettie,” Ash complained. “Ash, this is an emergency,” Elizabeth announced. “Orochi has been revived.” “What?” “Chizuru reached out to me and told me all about it,” Elizabeth explained. “Isn’t that a problem for her and those two lame boys, Kyo and Iori,” Ash wondered aloud. “She isn’t in condition to take on Orochi, she was badly hurt by a demonic zombie woman,” Elizabeth informed. (REF: CHIZURU KAGURA VS. KAZUMI MISHIMA) “Who? Shermie,” joked Ash. “This is serious, Ash. She ran afoul of a vengeful spirit of the Mishima matriarch while trying to seal away potential threats,” stated Elizabeth. “Who does the lady of the Yata clan deem a threat now?” Ash inquired. “Whoever it was, they were not as big of a threat as Orochi,” answered Elizabeth. “Still not sure what this has to do with me.” “Chizuru is requesting your help specifically, it’s why she reached out to me,” Elizabeth responded. “So she DOES remember our brief interaction,” Ash exclaimed. “I think the more likely scenario is that it has been explained to her,” Elizabeth retorted. “However, the more important thing is she knows you have the power to wield the Yata Mirror and the strength to stand up to Orochi.” Ash was aghast. “She expects me to fight alongside that moody musician and the high school dropout.” “Yes. To save the world. You’ve done it once, at the cost of your own life. She believes in you just as I do,” Elizabeth professed. Ash sighed. “I can only deal with one cataclysmic world event at a time.” “What do you mean?” asked Elizabeth. Ash Crimson looked down at the Kala-Yuga spear he had taken from Kilik (REF: KILIK VS. ASH CRIMSON) and back at the body of Algol. “Don’t worry Betty, I will figure this out.” —------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kyo Kusanagi boarded a small plane at the airport hangar where he was leaving Ryu to confront the ancient powerful entity, Orochi. (REF: RYU VS. OROCHI) “I can do this. I can make it back in time,” he whispered to himself. Utilizing flying lessons he had recently taken, he took off and headed toward the village of the Yata Clan. Along the way he reached out to his longtime rival, Iori Yagami. “Listen Iori, I…” Iori cut him off. “You don’t have to say another word, and I don’t want you to. Chizuru already filled me in on what’s going on.” Kyo was thankful he would not have to convince Iori to help. “You know this is all your fault,” Iori accused. “Huh?” “If you hadn’t let that dumb blonde karate guy fight me (REF: KEN MASTERS VS. IORI YAGAMI), we would still be together, and we could have stopped this thing before it started.” Iori explained. “You lost to Ken fair and square,” Kyo countered. “None of us knew this was going on at the same time.” Iori scoffed. “It wasn’t hard to guess. Lots of fighting always leads to weakening the seal.” Iori squinted his eyes. “Wait! Where are you going? I am coming to the airport hangar right now.” “I’m going to Chizuru’s village to pick up the mirror. We will need it,” Kyo responded. “Fool. She already has a plan for that. You left Orochi on his own,” Iori scolded. “Ryu is fighting him. That is why I am hurrying,” Kyo insisted. “You have the annoying blonde karate guy’s friend fighting Orochi. Kusanagi, you are going to get us all killed!” “He is a lot stronger than you realize. You can complain to me when it’s all done. I’m here now,” Kyo announced. Kyo left the cockpit of his small plane and an unexpected sight chilled him to the bone. Jets with the Shadoloo logo were lined up outside the Yata Village. Kyo quickly ran toward the center of the village past where members of the Yata Clan were fighting against Shadoloo soldiers. There he saw the cold-hearted leader of Shadoloo, M. Bison, standing menacingly over the battered body of Chizuru Kagura. “Give me the mirror, woman!” Bison demanded. “Or die!” “I would gladly accept death over handing over the Yata Mirror to the likes of you,” Chizuru said defiantly. “As you wish” Psycho energy engulfed Bison’s fist as he aimed it at Chizuru. “I will simply have my scientists pry it out of you.” “Bison! Stop right there!” shouted Kyo. The Shadoloo dictator looked over at Kyo as he ran toward him to intervene. “It’s you.” Bison chuckled. “The one outside the Mishima mausoleum where I took the warriors connected to Soul Edge. (REF: YOSHIMITSU VS. RYU HAYABUSA) You wanted to challenge me there but lost your nerve.” Bison belly laughed. “How fortuitous that fate would grant you another chance.” Kyo bristled at Bison’s inaccurate retelling of events, but he remained focused on the current situation. “Why are you attacking this village, it has no connection to Soul Edge.” “I am aware, but it still has its buried treasures that are of great significance to me,” Bison began. “You see, after I took those warriors, they were stolen from me. (REF: MOMIJI VS. JURI HAN) When trying to figure out who was responsible, I came to the conclusion that it could be the very same people I came across that day. So I researched you and came across the gem that is Orochi.” Bison’s eyes lit up with Psycho Power. “I then figured out the seal was weakening and wanted to be in prime position to add the power of Orochi to my own Psycho Power should he awaken once again.” “That’s madness,” Kyo declared. “On the contrary, it’s genius.” “Orochi has already been resurrected. I highly doubt Gaia’s servant would willingly abdicate its powers to you,” Chizuru warned weakly from the ground. Bison scoffed. “I don’t remember saying his willingness was a consideration.” “What about Soul Edge? Is that not still your goal?” asked Kyo. “Yes. I want it all,” declared Bison. “I have fallen behind the Mishima bloodline in the search for Soul Edge, but with Orochi’s powers added to my own I will be unstoppable.” Bison clenched his fist. “I will absorb Orochi and then I will absorb Soul Edge and this world will be mine.” “You’re a twisted nutjob,” Kyo called out. “There is no way you can do all that.” “Are you sure about that? The biggest obstacle to me taking the powers of Orochi is the Three Sacred Treasures sealing him back up before I get the chance. Yet, two of the Treasures are right here before me. If I eliminate you, Orochi can roam free,” Bison reasoned. “Kyo, get out of here,” Chizuru pleaded. “I’m not leaving you alone with this monster,” Kyo declared. Bison’s eyes filled with Psycho Energy. “Show me the Kusanagi power!”

GAINING AN EDGE: A MASSIVE FIGHTING GAME CROSSOVER PART 180 Ryu and Kyo Kusanagi arrived at the abandoned airport hangar in one of the custom Kanzuki sports cars, after being guided there by Chizuru Kagura. (REF: IBUKI VS. ELIOT) “So this Orochi being believes it is doing Gaia’s will?” Ryu questioned. “Yes. It has little regard for humans and wants to eradicate a large majority of humankind to restore the balance between man and nature,” Kyo explained. “You can see why it’s so important that we do everything we can to make sure it’s seal is not broken.” “You have defeated him once before, haven’t you?” asked Ryu. “Yes. But I wasn’t alone, it took everything I had along with Iori and Chizuru to overcome him,” Kyo recalled. “Even after we initially defeated him it was a whole ordeal. Iori went into a Riot of the Blood, but turned on Orochi. He held him long enough for me to deliver the final blow and that blow took everything out of me. It knocked me out, I was kidnapped and cloned…” Kyo trailed off. “It’s a long story.” Inside an empty building on the hangar, the Orochi fueled versions of Yashiro, Shermie, and Chris as well as Vice discussed options to remove the last remaining bits of Orochi’s seal. “The fighting energy required to set free our lord is not much,” said Yashiro. “I can reach out to Helena, lure her here, and crush her this time,” Shermie suggested. (REF: HELENA DOUGLAS VS. SHERMIE) “That should help.” “There is no shortage of fighters after that Soul Edge sword thing, I’m sure we could draw them here for a fight,” Vice opined. Chris nodded. “Vice has the right idea. The energy doesn’t have to come from a fight that involves us.” “Oh no, you misunderstand sweetie. I’m not going to go through the trouble of bringing fighters here if I don’t get to enjoy fighting and destroying them,” Vice stated with bloodthirst in her eyes. “Noted,” replied Chris. At that moment, the four members of the Hakkeshu were joined by the fifth, Mature, who had been on lookout duty. “Kyo Kusanagi is here,” she announced. “What?” Shermie exclaimed. “That changes plans.” Yashiro balled up a fist and punched his palm. “But I’m always ready for a fight. I assume Chizuru and Red are with him.” “I saw neither Chizuru or Iori,” answered Mature. “He is walking around with a man in a torn karate gi that I have never seen before.” “That makes no sense. There is no way he would come to fight us without the other two Sacred Treasures,” stated Chris. “They could be trying to come after us from multiple angles,” Shermie theorized. “It could be a trap.” “I saw Chizuru recently, it would take a miracle for her to be in fighting shape. If the Yata Mirror is here, she is not holding it. And, I would know if Iori was here. Trust me he is not,” Mature retorted. (REF: KOLIN VS. MATURE) Vice agreed with her longtime partner. “She is right.” “This new mystery man may be in possession of the mirror. I say we go find out,” Yashiro declared “If Kyo brought him to fight us instead of that pretty boy buddy of his or that dumb ox judo fighter, he must be very skilled,” Shermie surmised. Yashiro scoffed. “Doesn’t matter to me.” Chris interjected. “Let’s be smart about this. We were arrogant last time and we lost. Fighting them straight up could be a mistake.” “What are you suggesting?” Shermie wondered. “That we skip to the end and make me the vessel for our lord.” answered Chris. “What? You want us to kill ourselves again and give you all our power? You lost before as Orochi’s vessel, I’m not sure we should even give you that honor again,” said Yashiro. “We lost in part because you two only gave me your energy after we all had been defeated in a long, hard battle. I believe if we do it at full strength it will give a much better boost to our returning lord,” Chris explained. “It does,,,,make sense,” stated Shermie. “You really think that is necessary with only one of the three Sacred Treasures out there?” asked Mature. “I think it would be foolish to assume the other two aren’t on their way,” replied Chris. “With lord Orochi’s immediate return we can assure the destruction of Kyo Kusanagi before the other two even arrive. Without all three, our master’s prolonged return is guaranteed.” Yashiro folded his arms. “I really wanted to be alive to see his return this time. Oh well, his resurrection is the most important thing. Let’s do this.” Outside, Kyo and Ryu had settled on two remaining buildings that they had not yet checked. “The presence of Orochi is strong here, we must be close,” Kyo assumed. “Good,” stated Ryu. After a few moments, Kyo grabbed his chest. “No! It can’t be! We are too late!” “What? Are you sure?” “I’ve only felt Orochi’s presence this strongly once before. He has returned,” Kyo lamented. Ryu felt the ominous presence as well. A bright white light exploded from the windows of the nearby building. “What do we do now?” Ryu questioned. “We failed to prevent his resurrection, we need all three of the Sacred Treasures to seal Orochi back up. We need to get Iori and the Yata Mirror.” Kyo hesitated. “On the other hand we can’t leave Orochi unchecked or countless lives could be lost!” A look of determination washed across Ryu’s face. “Very well then. I will fight the vengeful force of nature while you recover the necessary artifacts to seal the entity.” “What?” Kyo exclaimed. “You can’t challenge him alone.” “Given our present circumstances, I don’t see much of an alternative,” said Ryu. He was right and Kyo knew it. His mutual admiration and resentment toward Ryu grew at that moment. “Be careful. I am sure he is unlike anything you ever faced before. I will take that small plane over there and be back as quick as I can.” Ryu nodded. “Good luck.” “You too.” Ryu entered the nearby building and got his first glimpse of the white haired human form of Orochi. In front of him stood Vice and Mature. “Hey there boy, you’re just in time,” taunted Vice. “Where is Kyo?” asked Mature. “He will return shortly, but for now you face me,” Ryu declared. “Allow me the pleasure, Lord Orochi,” stated Vice. Orochi spoke up. “That won’t be necessary. The two of you have done quite enough. You need not to prove anything to me. Throughout your time working for undercover for Rugal Bernstein, Goentiz, and Iori Yagami you have shown without a doubt where your true unwavering loyalties lie.`` Orochi’s face turned angry. “With one of my truest enemies, Iori Yagami!” In two quick motions, Orochi murdered both Mature and Vice. Ryu’s eyes widened with surprise. Orochi chuckled as he looked down at the dead bodies of Mature and Vice and then back up at Ryu. “Misguided devotion, a common flaw throughout humanity. Know this, human. I have no quarrel with you. You have been kind to nature during your time on this world. Gaia is well pleased and smiles upon you. You will get no judgment from me and are free to live out your days.” “I have a quarrel with you,” Ryu interjected. “Humanity may not be perfect, but I can’t allow you to play judge, jury, and executioner for so many innocent lives.” “Pity, you are so determined to throw your own life away.”

GAINING AN EDGE: A MASSIVE FIGHTING GAME CROSSOVER PART 179 On the helipad of the Freedom Survivor cruise liner, Guile crouched into a defensive position to shield himself from the malfested masked wrestler King’s rage fueled strikes in front of a large group of spectators. (REF: GUILE VS. KING) During an unfocused dropkick through the air by King, Guile leaped up and brought the wrestler down with a backbreaker. Afterward, once Guile saw an opening, he snapped forward and tagged King with a picture perfect Flash Kick. “Sonic Boom!” Guile smashed King with his signature projectile. The shockwaves of the attack shook the entire helipad. Guile crossed his arms again and fired another Sonic Boom at King. The helipad shook again and as King tried to recover his footing, Guile slipped behind him, and rocked him with a vicious Dragon suplex. King rolled to his feet and attempted to grab Guile. Before he got his hands on the major, Guile performed one more Sonic Boom. This time he held it in place for his Sonic Hurricane technique and it put King in a temporary prison of violent vibration. When Guile finished the technique, King fell to the ground and his glowing orange eyes shut as he slipped into unconsciousness. Guile looked over his defeated opponent with sympathy in his eyes as he reflected on his own experience being controlled by Soul Edge. The two fighters were soon joined by a sprinting El Fuerte who ran past all the DOATEC security guards who were simply watching the fight. “What happened?” asked the luchador. “He was infected, I had to put him down,” answered Guile. “How could this happen?” El Fuerte wondered. “He was fine before. I left him alone for a few minutes with some of Prime Minister Sobieska’s people and I came back and they were all gone.” A stern-faced Helena Douglas also walked onto the helipad with an explanation. “Because they most likely were the ones that did this to him.” “Come again.” “I went to visit our holding cells when I heard someone else had been infected and I discovered that Shermie and Vice were both gone. The guards told me they were cheap shotted by a couple of Polish Intelligence officers. Now both officers as well as Vice and Shermie have disappeared from the Freedom Survivor.” Helena walked closer to King. “My hunch is they were using him as a diversion.” “Does that mean Prime Minister Sobieska broke them out of confinement?” Guile inquired. “That is a good question. I can’t think of a good reason why she would do this, but she has much to answer for,” said Helena. “I just wanted to make sure you were okay first.” Guile pulled out his comb to brush his hair for a moment. “I’m fine. I won’t let this interruption stop me from my mission. I am going to Mexico to find and bring in Cassandra Alexandra. Keep me apprised of any new information about Lidia or what Shermie and Vice could be up to.” (REF: KOKORO VS. SHIKI) El Fuerte and a few other DOATEC security guards lifted up the body of King. “Perdoname my friend, I never should have invited you to this hell,” El Blaze whispered. (REF: SOGETSU KAZAMA VS. JIN KAZAMA) —----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inside a bar on a Mexican port, music sensation and world renowned kickboxer, Dee Jay, was struggling to mount any offense against the mysterious and ominous Zasalamel. (REF: ZASALAMEL VS. DEE JAY) The jovial Jamaican went after Zasalamel with a roundhouse. The kick was blocked by the handle of Zasalamel’s scythe. Zasalamel then spun his scythe and slashed Dee Jay across the chest. The robed immortal followed this up by smashing his boot into Dee Jay’s face. “Hey mon, I can’t let you do this!” Dee Jay’s stage hand and friend shouted. Zasalamel twirled around and slammed the stage hand on the ground hard with an overhead swipe. He then raked his scythe across the man’s back. Zasalamel quickly returned his attention back to his primary foe. Dee Jay extended his leg for another kick. Zasalamel stomped on the ground. “Stay frozen!” A bright white light filled the bar as Zasalamel momentarily paused time. He took his scythe and performed a series of the three upward slashes on Dee Jay. knocking him into the wall. He swiped at Dee Jay’s legs with the scythe and put the muscular musician on the ground. Relentless, Zasalamel dug his scythe into Dee Jay’s flesh and lifted him in the air. He slammed Dee Jay into the wall, the ground, and the bar itself until the beating and the blood loss was too much for Dee Jay and he lost consciousness. Zasalamel smirked as he walked over to gather up his prize, the body of Maxi. At that moment, Cassandra Alexandra entered the bar preparing to give Dee Jay reward money for rescuing Maxi. (REF: CHRISTIE MONTIERO VS. DEE JAY) She gasped at the sight of Zasalamel. “It can’t be,” she whispered. Zasalamel chuckled as a portal formed behind him. “I’ll see you soon, noble warrior.” Zasalamel stepped into the portal with Maxi in his arms and then vanished. Cassandra quickly rushed over to check on the two badly injured men Zasalamel left in his wake. “We should have just minded our own business,” the stage hand said weakly. “I am so sorry you were dragged into this. I will make sure the locals can get you somewhere to get the medical attention you need,” Cassandra declared. She stayed with the two until medical help arrived. Cassandra then returned to where Maxi’s ship was docked and was confused to see members of Maxi’s crew throwing men with red and white striped shirts off the docks and into the ocean. “What is going on?” she asked. “Miss Alexandra, you’re back,” remarked one of the sailors. “It’s nothing to be worried about, just some riff raff trying to pick a fight. I don’t even think they were being serious. It was like they just wanted to rough house more than anything. They called themselves lily knights or something like that.” The sailor then peered behind Cassandra. “Is the Captain not with you? Where is he at?” “I need to talk to Darli. Is she still on the ship?” Cassandra responded. “Yeah,” the sailor confirmed. Cassandra boarded Maxi’s ship and looked around for Darli. When she couldn’t locate Maxi’s first mate, she went into the captain’s quarters. There she witnessed Darli Dagger with her foot stomping on a bruised and battered blonde pirate in a purple dress. (REF: BONNE JENET VS. DARLI DAGGER) Darli had her jagged saw sword resting under the chin of her fallen adversary. “Who sent you?” Darli demanded. “No one, I swear,” B. Jenet pleaded. “I just thought Soul Edge was some cool treasure. I don’t even want it anymore.” Darli gritted her teeth. “I’m so tired of the betrayals and the sneak attacks, between you, Zarina (REF: DARLI DAGGER VS. ZARINA), and the guy with braids (REF: DARLI DAGGER VS. EDDY GORDO), I’ve had my fill. Why can’t you all just leave Maxi and I alone.” “I’ve never met Maxi before, but I bet he’s a big hunk. I’m sure you guys make a real cute couple,” B. Jenet blabbered in fear. “Stupid girl, you don’t even know what you are talking about.” Darli applied more pressure to the jagged saw sword pressed against Jenet’s neck. “Perhaps I should cut you into pieces so the next person who tries to sneak on this ship will see you and understand the danger they are getting into.” “Please don’t,” B. Jenet begged. Cassandra finally broke her silence. “Darli! She has given up, stop it.” As if snapping out of a trance, Darli suddenly lifted the sword away from B. Jenet’s neck. “Get out of my sight,” she grumbled. B. Jenet scampered to her feet. “If I see you again, I will cut you in half,” Darli threatened. “You won’t have to worry about that,” B. Jenet promised. The spoiled would be Robin Hood escaped the room as quickly as she could. “Are you feeling okay?” Cassandra inquired. “I will be now that Maxi is back,” Darli confirmed. “Is he outside?” Cassandra shook her head sadly. “I never got him.” “Huh?” “When I arrived at the location to pick him up he was being taken away by Zasalamel,” Cassandra informed. “What do you mean taken away? Who is Zasalamel?” “An immortal being, he is even older than Maxi and I,” Cassandra explained. “He is often manipulating things behind the shadows, to what end I don’t know.” Anger rose in Darli’s voice. “You let him take Maxi.” “No. I did not let him do anything. They disappeared in a portal together. I can’t follow that.” Cassandra became concerned by the aggressive expression on Darli’s face. “Darli, listen, we will get Maxi back. I promise you. We just have to figure out what Zasalamel is up to.” “More excuses, more stalling,” Darli sneered. “How do I know for sure that you weren’t involved in all of this? You showed up right after he went missing. (REF: DEE JAY VS. JEFFRY MCWILD) You could be lying.” “I know you're upset but you can’t possibly be serious in thinking that I….” Cassandra trailed off as a horrifying realization set in. “Darli, please you need to remain calm. You know those Soul Edge shards inside you feed off and amplify….” Cassandra trailed off again. Darli Dagger screamed in frustration she then glared at Cassandra. “All of you are to blame! I don’t trust any of you!” Cassandra’s eyes were filled with sadness. “Darli, no,” Darli Dagger’s eyes were filled with rage and an orange tint as the shards inside her took control.

GAINING AN EDGE: A MASSIVE FIGHTING GAME CROSSOVER PART 178 Baiken swung her katana downward toward Sophitia at a 90 degree angle, but the slash was blocked by Sophitia’s Elk Shield. (REF: BAIKEN VS. SOPHITIA ALEXANDRA) Sophitia then countered with an upward slash of her own that lifted Baiken into the air. The Greek warrior followed this by thrusting her Omega Sword at the falling samurai and stabbing her in the side. Baiken groaned in pain as she hit the ground. She quickly fired her sleeve cannon at Sophitia to give herself time to recover. Sophitia ducked the projectile. Baiken fired her grappling hook next which knocked the Oak Shield out of Sophitia’s hand and pulled the ancient fighter in close to Baiken. The two women clashed swords and attempted to overpower one another. Baiken was caught off guard when Sophitia proved herself to be the stronger of the two and with the superior weapon. Sophitia knocked the katana out of Baiken’s hand and floored the eye-patched fighter with a high kick. “I will never falter,” Sophitia declared. Sophitia channeled her energy and a blue hue appeared on the Omega Sword. She landed several more strikes on the backpedaling Baiken. “Tatami Gaeshi!” Baiken attempted to stop the offensive onslaught by summoning a Tatami mat from the sky to strike Sophitia. However, Sophitia was one step ahead and back stepped away from the counter. “By the gods!” Sophitia called to the sky and a lightning bolt struck her sword. She redirected the bolt at Baiken and put down the samurai for good. “Fate has deemed you unworthy of challenging Soul Edge,” stated Sophitia. “Sophitia!” The blonde braided warrior turned to her left and saw two faces she hadn’t seen in decades approaching her, her old allise, Seong Mi-Na and Taki. “What are you two doing here?” asked Sophitia. “We could ask you the same thing,” Taki responded. “We came here looking for Mitsurugi. We did not expect to find you,” Seong Mi-Na added. (REF: HWANG VS. GUY) “I also came here initially in search of Mitsurugi,” Sophitia informed. “My hunch is we all were searching for him for the same reason.” Taki clenched her fist. “Soul Edge!” “It is already affecting people all over the world again. I have seen it for myself. If it gets in the wrong hands, we will return to the age of darkness. We don’t have much time,” Sophitia forewarned. “I know. That’s why we came. Much has happened. We made some new allies, although it didn’t start that way,” Seong Mi-Na admitted. “It is a long story.” (REF: TAKI VS. KASUMI) “The short of it is there are new world heroes already in opposition of Soul Edge. It has become clear if we want to stop the Evil Seed from spreading once more we need to work with these new heroes and not against them,” stated Taki. “Yes. I too have already been working alongside some current day warriors. (REF: NiCO vs. SOGETSU KAZAMA) Although thinking about it now and reflecting on recent fights I have had, (REF: SOPHITIA ALEXANDRA VS. UNKNOWN) I am left to wonder if any of them are truly strong enough to face the challenge ahead,” said Sophitia. “A new age warrior looks after Soul Edge at this very moment,” Taki reported. Sophitia was incredulous. “What?” Seong Mi-Na cut in. “It’s true. His name is Ryu Hayabusa of the Hayabusa Clan. He defeated Yoshimitsu. (REF: YOSHIMITSU VS. RYU HAYABUSA) He, the shrine maiden, along with their allies in the Mugen Tenshin are some of the strongest fighters I have come across in centuries.” (REF: SEONG MI-NA VS. MOMIJI) “They were better than us,” Taki admitted bitterly. (REF: CHIZURU KAGURA VS. KAZUMI MISHIMA) “They also beat Xianghua. She isn’t with us right now because she elected to go after Hwang to stop him from trying to stop the new heroes,” Seong Mi-Na explained. Sophitia sighed. “That is a lot to take in.” Taki pointed at Baiken. “Who is that?” “If she is to be believed, a fighter from another world also in pursuit of Soul Edge,” answered Sophitia. Seong Mi-Na marveled, “Wow. It really is like the old days.” Sophitia pondered the information she had received from Taki and Seong Mi-Na. “I want to meet this Ryu Hayabusa. Just because he defeated Yoshimitsu doesn’t mean he is the right person to be overseeing the most dangerous weapon in the world. Can you take me there?” Seong Mi-Na nodded. “What about Mitsurugi and this one armed woman?” asked Taki. “She bested Mitsurugi in battle. (REF: BAIKEN VS. HEISHIRO MITSURUGI) You know him well, Taki, there is no way he still has the confidence or the desire to be of help to us now. As for her, if her real mission is to simply return home perhaps we can help her with that when this is over. I have met people with access to amazing science magic. However, we can’t afford to let her interfere before then. Can you keep an eye on her, Taki?” The Fu-Ma ninja begrudgingly agreed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- G-Corporation drone cameras buzzed around the battlefields near the G-Corporation building broadcasting them to the tv screens inside Kazuya’s office in the Millenium Tower. Currently, Kazuya watched with amusement as in one location a malfested Mai Shiranui battled Yoga Master, Dhalsim (REF: MAI SHIRANUI VS. DHALSIM) and, in another location close by fiend hunter, Rachel, waged war with tomb guardian, Zafina. (REF: RACHEL VS. ZAFINA) Kazuya’s top mercenary for hire, Angel, stood behind him with her arms folded. She silently judged the fighting techniques of everyone on screen while also commenting on their sartorial choices. (REF: ANGEL VS. IVY VALENTINE) “That leather outfit the blonde with the warhammer is sporting is really hot,” she noted. “I bet I could rock it.” Kazuya did not respond to this observation. “Do you have any idea who she is?” Angel asked. Kazuya shook his head no. “The allure of Soul Edge has brought us warriors from all over the globe in all shapes and sizes." Angel pointed at the screen with Dhalsim on it as he stretched his arms a great length to hit Mai. “Yeah, no kidding.” Kazuya turned his swivel chair to face the science department of the building. “The important thing is that the experiment was a success. Even small shards of the sword contained enough power to turn those would be saviors against one another. (REF: MAKI GENRYUSAI VS. MAI SHIRANUI) Just imagine the kind of power I will wield once the sword itself is mine.” “Once all the fighting is done out there, you want me to clean up whatever is left?” Angel asked. “Yes,” Kazuya confirmed. Without warning, several alarms rang throughout Millenium Tower. Kazuya quickly turned one of the TVs in his office to a security feed toward the front of the building. He and Angel witnessed a large, muscular, Russian tearing through G-Corporation soldiers like paper mache. “Angel! Are you here?” Zangief shouted. “Someone show her to me!” Zangief grabbed a soldier by his helmet and smashed him into a pillar. “I will not leave until she is brought to me.” (REF: CHUN-LI VS. RACHEL) Kazuya lifted an eyebrow. “What is the meaning of this?” “I have no idea. I will take care of it.” Angel exited Kazuya’s office and made her way downstairs to the front lobby. She wondered why the most famous wrestler in the world had come all this way to look for her. She figured Ramon and King of Dinosaurs had put him up to it as a way to convince her to team with them again. It would be a nice gesture, if a bit desperate. Angel just hoped it wouldn’t jeopardize her current gig with Kazuya. Angel exited the elevator just in time to see Zangief throw a couch at a fallen G-Corporation soldier. She quickly intervened and effortlessly smacked aside the airborne couch with her immense strength. Zangief’s eyes bulged at the sight of her. Zangief pointed a finger at Angel. “You are her. The one called Angel!” Angel smiled and posed. “The one and only.” “How is it possible that someone with a build like yours could put sweet Mika in the hospital?” Zangief demanded. (REF: ANGEL VS. R. MIKA) “You lack maximum muscle definition.” “Oh, she is why you are here?” Angel frowned. “How disappointing.” Her frown turned into a smile. “It wasn’t personal, just business. (REF: ANGEL VS. JULIA CHANG) But, to answer your question, I owe it all to the cybernetic enhancements granted me by my previous employer, the NESTS cartel. Because of their enhancements I can be really strong while still looking super cute!” “Whatever the reason, I will make you regret hurting her,” Zangief promised. Angel placed her index fingers next to head to form horns and taunted Zangief. “Doubtful old man, I am out of your league in more ways than one. I know all of your moves. One of my former teammates was a big fan. I will put you out to pasture no problem.” “Svolach! The Red Cyclone is ageless,” Zangief insisted.

I personally used to despise fighting Dhalsim in SF2. His stretching attacks would always get me. Objectively, I think this would be a close fight one way or the other. -
GAINING AN EDGE: A MASSIVE FIGHTING GAME CROSSOVER PART 177 “Hadoken!” Ken Masters sent a fireball directly into Hitomi’s chest. The force from the projectile sent Hitomi crashing into a nearby vending machine in the train station where she and Ken were fighting. (REF: HITOMI VS. KEN MASTERS) The enraged Hitomi recovered, screamed in anger, and went back on the offensive against Ken with a series of strong punches that were blocked by Ken with great effort and an axe kick that Ken parried. Hitomi was starting to wear the world warrior down with her persistent attacks and Ken felt he needed to end the fight soon. As Hitomi recovered from her whiffed axe kick, Ken launched into his Shippu Jinraikyaku kick combo. He landed several kicks on Hitomi then launched her into the air to land even more strikes with his Tatsumaki Hurricane Kick. Hitomi crashed into a wooden bench. She struggled to return to her feet. “Hadoken!” Another fireball smashed into Hitomi and floored the German karate fighter for good. When it became clear that Hitomi was not going to get back up, Ken exhaled with relief. He looked around for signs of Kolin, but Gill’s right-hand woman had vanished during the confrontation. Ken shook his head in disappointment. He took a few steps and stood over his fallen opponent. “I’ll give you this much, you are one tough lady. After all that punishment, you just kept coming at me,” He knelt down next to her. “I was wrong to be so dismissive of the DOA tournament and its entrants. Hopefully we can have a proper rematch one day after we get you better.” Ken dialed up Karin Kanzuki. “How did it go?” Karin inquired. “Are you with Kolin?” “No, the situation went sideways,” Ken responded. “That Hitomi girl went bezerk and fought me. She was out of her mind. It was just like those situations on the boat that Guile was telling us about. (REF: BAIKEN VS. SOPHITIA ALEXANDRA) Her eyes were orange and everything,” “So she was infected on the Freedom Survivor,” Karin surmised. “It seems so. And Kolin slipped out while we were battling.” Karin sighed. “That poor girl. Fortunately, Helena sent some medics along with her and Eliot that were trained by Sophitia to treat the malfested.” “Should I bring her back to the estate?” Ken wondered. “No, what if she attacks you again on the way back? That could be a dangerous situation,” Karin opined. “We will come to you.” “Ok then.” “Were you able to get anything from Kolin before things got out of hand?” asked Karin. “Yeah. Looks like Urien is angling to revive the ancient demon, Orochi, along with all of his Soul Edge shenanigans. That’s why Kolin was with Iori Yagami, she was placed with him by Urien to keep an eye on him,” Ken explained. (REF: IORI YAGAMI VS. CHARLIE NASH) Karin gasped. “What is his angle? Is he trying to bring back every evil threat he has ever heard of?” “Your guess is as good as mine. You should probably talk to Kyo before you come here. Few people have as much knowledge and history with Orochi,” Ken suggested. “Good point. I’ll see you soon, Ken.” Karin hung up with Ken and walked through her estate until she found Kyo Kusanagi and Ryu. “I just talked to Ken,” she announced. “He is doing fine, but the mission was not a qualified success. It would appear that Hitomi was infected by one of the many other fighters on Helena’s ship. (REF: HITOMI VS. PAUL PHOENIX) Ken has incapacitated her for the time being so I’m taking the DOATEC medics with me to treat her. He did also mention that he discovered one of Urien’s goals is the resurrection of Orochi. Any thoughts Mr. Kusanagi?” Kyo grimaced and massaged his temples. “I was worried things were leading to this. Man, everything always seems to go back to Orochi.” “How would its seal be broken?” asked Ryu. “It’s always weakened by a concentrated amount of high level fighting energy,” Kyo answered. “The kind of thing that has been happening a lot lately,” stated Karin. “Guys, Orochi is insanely strong. Probably the toughest opponent I have ever faced. Our best bet is to repair the seal before it is reawakened,” said Kyo. “How do we do that?” Ryu wondered. “We are going to need Iori and Chizuru and their sacred treasures,” explained Kyo. “It won’t be easy convincing Iori to help considering what happened to him recently the last time he was here. (REF: KEN MASTERS VS. IORI YAGAMI) Also, we don’t exactly keep each other on speed dial.” “See what we can find on them, my estate is at your disposal. I am going to the train station, I should be back soon with Ken and Hitomi,” stated Karin. As Karin stepped into another luxury vehicle, a worrisome thought occurred to her. “What about that boy, Eliot?” she wondered aloud. “I know at the moment that he is safe, but shouldn’t we check to see if he is infected as well?” “Unless you have equipment that can detect small pieces of a magical weapon inside a person in that mansion of yours, I don’t know how we could,” one of the DOATEC medics reasoned. “He should be fine. My guess is any overexposure would have surfaced when he was fighting in that MIST lab,” added the other medic. (REF: ELIOT VS. LEO KLIESEN) “And to be honest, if by some small chance he does turn, you have Kyo and Ryu in there. Everyone says they are two of the top fighters in the world.” “I don’t know if the prospect of another big fight inside my house is reassuring,” Karin countered. (REF: KOLIN VS. HONOKA) However, Karin listened to the two medics and they drove off to the train station to reconnect with Ken. Back inside the mansion, Kyo quickly dialed up Chizuru Kagura. “Kyo! I was just about to call you. So, you must feel it too,” Chizuru said by way of greeting. “Feel what? The weakening of the seal?” “Yes. The return of Orochi is imminent, you must act now,” Chizuru declared. “That’s why I’m calling, so we can work together to seal the damn thing,” said Kyo. “I don’t know if there is enough time for all of us to come together and unfortunately I’m in no condition to help after our misadventure in the Mishima mausoleum,” Chizuru lamented. (REF: CHIZURU KAGURA VS. KAZUMI MISHIMA) “What are you talking about?” “My clan pinpointed a large surge of energy in a small airport hangar about forty miles north of you,” Chizuru explained. (REF: KOKORO VS. SHIKI) “It must be the Hakkeshu. If left unchecked, Orochi will be unleashed within a few hours.” “What?!?” “Kyo, you must go there immediately and stop the energy surge!” Chizuru exclaimed. “When it has subsided, we can gather together with you, Iori, and someone able to utilize the Yata Mirror.” “Ok, I understand. I’ll take care of it,” Kyo promised. “Good luck, Kyo. We are all counting on you.” After he hung up with Chizuru, Kyo turned to Ryu for assistance. “Come with me to the airport hangar. I’m not sure what we will find, but I am not too arrogant to ask for help.” “Of course,” Ryu replied. “Do you want to bring some of the others as well?” Kyo rejected this idea. “Ibuki, Eliot, and Honoka are all skilled fighters, but they are all just kids. Whatever is out there could be too dangerous for them and I don’t want to needlessly risk their lives.” “How old were you when you first fought Orochi?” Ryu retorted. “That was different, and I hope it doesn’t come to that.” Kyo stood firm in his decision. “I think the two of us together can beat just about anything so we should be enough.” Ryu nodded. “I will get Karin’s butler to get us a car.” —------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After arriving at the Kanzuki Estate with Hitomi, Eliot suddenly found himself alone with no one really to talk to after she elected to leave with Ken. Unbeknownst to him, Eliot caught the eye of a hormonal teenage ninja on the rebound after being implicitly rejected by her secret crush. (REF: IBUKI VS. ATHENA ASAMIYA) “We haven’t met yet, I’m Ibuki,” she announced cheerily after running up to the Xingyi Quan fighter. “Eliot,” he responded as she shook his hand. “So, Eliot you must be a fighter, you definitely have the look of one,” Ibuki observed. “That’s right. I was sent here with Hitomi by Miss Douglas to help you guys out.” “Great. Have you received the tour yet?” Ibuki inquired. Eliot shook his head no. “Then allow me. This place is huge and it’s easy to get lost. I worked here for a summer so I know it like the back of my hand,” Ibuki informed. “Umm… thanks,” Eliot stuttered. Ibuki took Eliot by the hand and walked him around the estate showing him the different rooms and telling him stories about her time working for Karin. Eliot listened respectfully, but Ibuki wanted to draw him out more. “So have you ever been around a real life ninja before?” she boasted. “Actually yes, a few times,” answered Eliot. “I’ve had some interactions with the Mugen Tenshin clan, mostly Ayane, but I’ve seen Hayate and Kasumi at the tournaments.” “The Mugen Tenshin huh?” “Yeah, their competitors at the Dead or Alive tournament.” Eliot tapped his chin. “Although come to think of it, I can’t remember the last one they actually competed in. But, they're always around. They’re awesome.” Ibuki felt the need to immediately change the subject. “Are you hungry?” “I could go for some tea,” Eliot stated. “Ok, why don’t you have a seat right here at the table and I will get us some,” said Ibuki. After Ibuki left the room, Eliot received a call. On the other end of the line was Brad Wong with terrible news. (REF: GEN VS. ASH CRIMSON) “Hey, I don’t really know how to do this so I’m just going to come right out and say it. Gen Fu is dead.” “What?!?” “They found him dead at his house, sometime after we left. There are no suspects right now, but it sounds like it was definitely a professional hit. (REF: GEN VS. GEN FU) I’m sorry kid.” Emotions swelled up inside. “That can’t be right. Who would go after my master?” Brad Wong sighed. “I don’t have a clue. But it’s true, he is really gone.” “No. No. No,” Eliot repeated. “Listen, Eliot, I know this is hard. I want you to know I’m here for you. I’ll call you back as soon as I have some more details. I just thought you deserved to know as soon as I did.” Eliot hung up the phone. His breathing became heavy and he thought he was going to sob. Suddenly, the sadness turned into rage. “I should have been there!” he shouted. “Hey! I’m ba….” “I never should have left. If I would have stayed I could have stopped it!” Eliot proclaimed. He slammed his fist down on the table in front of him and broke it in half. The burst of emotion startled Ibuki and she dropped the tea. “Whoa! Hey! Karin is going to freak out if we destroy more of her furniture.” (REF: SHIKI VS. KAGE-MARU) Eliot glared at Ibuki with glowing orange eyes. “Be quiet, girl!” “Eliot, are you okay?”
