"Oh Ye! Who taunts the fates! Thy existence is blasphemy! Ye refuse to succumb to the ebbing of time! Doest thou truly desire to live eternal?"

The Trilobite, terrified with the idea of extinction, nodded defiantly.

The gods of the deep laughed in triumph. "Thy wish is granted! Rebellion is rewarded! If thy wish is to defy nature, then defiance thou shall become! Thou shalt no longer be of the sea or of the land. Thou shalt be a pariah to all!"

Trembling in fear and anticipation, Mammon the Trilobite shed a solitary tear of joy.

Personality: Black waters rose from the depths of the sea, twisting around the last remaining Trilobite. His cells cried in agony as the ancient magics twisted his very make-up into a perversion of nature.

As the pain subsided, the basalt flats of the ocean floor rose to encompass Mammon's form. They curved and bent, shaping a sphere of glass around his accursed form. Inside the sphere was neither air nor water. Only a lonely vacuum remained.

With Mammon's wretched wish granted, the gods returned to the depths. Mammon tried to cry-- his tears died in the vacuum, sealing his fate.

The Eurypterid

Mammon drifted amongst the depths for untold time-- days, years, epochs? He knew not. He only knew that an unspeakable period of tormenting loneliness occurred before his eyes saw the welcoming light of salvation.

A behemoth of a vessel, unlike any he had met, appeared from the darkest seas. Twin beacons of light shone, breaking the horrible darkness of he depths. It looked like one of his long-dead brethren of past aeons-- a creature with a spiked tail and grasping talons of death. But he feared not its visage, for he knew in his heart it was a savior.

Cursed Are We

The vessel's belly opened, and a glimmering arm embraced Mammon, drawing him inside. Once inside, Mammon's heart raced with excitement, for he saw countless souls he thought lost to the ages. As his excitement peaked, his glass prison shattered, and to his excitement Mammon found the interior of the vessel to be just as empty as his former prison.

"We, too, are cursed by the gods," said a Placoderm who sat at the helm of the vessel. "We defied nature and chose to live in this hellish void, bound to neither sea nor land. We welcome you, brother."

Defiant Are We

The beasts of ages past celebrated the retrieval of a kindred spirit. They dined upon oceanic delicacies harvested from every corner of the sea. They told tales of their storied pasts, relishing in the days of old before their lineages were callously ended by the gods. They also sung of their hatred of the lords of the depths and told tales of their never-ending quest to conquer their curse and reclaim their lineages' birthrights.

Theirs was a quest of vengeance and reclamation, and Mammon beamed with righteous glee.

Hunting for Atlantis

After the festivities, a withered Ammonite approached Mammon. "'Tis not too late, m'son. While ye may relish 'r songs o' retribution, ours isn't a joyous odyssey. We seek th' home o' th' very gods that punished us, so that we may demand 'r lives and 'r bloodlines be returned. Bear no illusions 'bout this journey. We know not where Atlantis lies, and spend every waking moment 'pon 'r quest. This'll be yer destiny, to reclaim yer rightful place in the world, or find yer rightful place in Hell. 'Tisn't too late to return to the safety of solitude."

"Your warning is unneeded, friend. I, Mammon, do swear on this day to see this quest through to the end! With all of my anger and all of my anguish, I will see that these wretched gods be struck down by any means necessary! My fury will become a weapon-- a weapon of true justice! Never again will a god's whim destroy one of our brothers or sisters! I will be triumphant!"

The aging Ammonite shed tears of righteous joy, as he knew he had found the one that would lead their kind to their destiny.
