As a young boy, Ronan Daly grew up in solitude, incapable of relating to his peers, preferring instead to live in his own head, where his daydreams allowed him to escape from the boredom and loneliness he faced in reality. His favourite daydreams took place among the Olympian world of Greek gods and heroes where adventures lay around every corner. At school his quiet nature and weak physique made him a prime target to bullies, but in solitude, the young boy found happiness as his fantasy world allowed him to conquer all the mythical foes he faced. Ronan was usually accompanied in his make believe quests by his favourite of the mythological gods, Mercury. Like Ronan, Mercury was not the strongest or most powerful person around, but Ronan envied the speed and style that Mercury embodied as he sprinted around in his winged sandals. However, as the boy grew older, he was forced to abandon his fantasy world and leave behind his imagined friends. The real world beckoned, and Ronan's studies, coupled with the growing concerns of his parents about his behaviour, meant that he had little time or freedom for daydreaming anymore. Ronan forgot all about his past adventures and as he entered his teenage years, found himself becoming much more comfortable in reality, making friends with greater ease. He was not to realize it yet, but his acceptance of the "real" world was just one of many signs that the old ways were being forgotten, and the old gods losing all influence on the world. Something the gods weren't willing to let happen. The ancient god Mercury chose a vessel to host his powers, and his very essence. That vessel was Ronan. Time passed by, and a noticeable change was coming over Ronan. He became taller and more athletic, and a quiet comfidence crept into his voice that had never been there before. He noticed none of this however, and the only odd thing he could have commented on was the bizarre dreams of a very familiar place. Little by little, he was becoming less and less like Ronan, and more and more like Mercury. It was on his eighteenth birthday that everything at last became apparent to him, when, stepping out of bed in the morning, he walked out the door to brush his teeth and mad eit half way to the bathroom before he realized his feet hadn't touched the ground. He was walking on air. The change was complete. |
Personality: The Mercurial is a being of two worlds. Comprised of an ancient god and a slightly awkward young man, his biggest weakness is his inconsistency of character. Changing from a brazen and wreckless showoff to a modest and careful realist, his confidence and style are in a constant state of change, as his dual-natures flow and ebb in his consciousness. |
