Winter's Curse
Cold: Ultimate
- Area Affect
- Multi-Attacks
As you are well aware, my love, the life of a debutante can be difficult. My youth was spent learning the finer points of etiquette, party planning, flower arrangement and interior design. I slavishly attended countless parties, luncheons and functions to hone my skills and socialize in the upper circles. My parents worked hard to introduce me to the right people and I know how much they expected of me. It was heart-breaking to disappoint them so. I'm sure you recall the tragedy of Mrs. Van Houten's charity luncheon, as I have subjected you to its telling more times than I can remember. The social event of the summer, attended by Khazan's elite, and it was then that my unique abilities chose to reveal themselves. I was listening intently to a rather droll story by a dashing young senator when suddenly he became chilled. Indeed, everyone around me began to move away as waves of cold swept over me. The hors d'ourve table was completely covered in frost and the punch bowl had become a solid mass of fruit filled ice. Champagne glasses shattered and the assembled crowd began to flee in terror. It was a horrifying sight and it ruined a perfectly planned party. I was ashamed. My mother sent apology cards to each and every guest, but the damage had been done - my family was the laughingstock of the community.
A Chill Wind
Matter Animation: Superior
We were shunned by the upper crust. Our names were more and more frequently left off the invitation lists of all the important social events. My father was passed over for promotion at the bank and I knew it was because of me. You of all people understand how delicate the social structure can be, my darling - a family's reputation has been sullied by far less. After incessant lobbying on my mother's behalf, we were finally invited to another major function - the Mayor's Ball. It was a truly gala evening and I was determined to control my powers and save my family's reputation. Despite my best efforts, however, they slipped out again - this time as a gust of arctic wind which circled the dance floor like an unbridled pony. Ladies were knocked off their feet, dresses blown up over their heads. Gentlemen too were knocked to the floor, desperately trying to grab hold of their companions. Wine, cheese and finger sandwiches swirled about the hall, ruining thousand dollar gowns and expensive Italian tuxedos. The mayor himself was lifted a full four feet in the air by my errant gust then dropped unceremoniously to the ground while his toupee floated gently downward into the caviar. I ran, in tears, from the ball and never looked back.
Riding the Winds
Flight: Supreme
I did what I had to do to save my family from further humiliation. My accursed powers were quite obviously beyond my control and certainly not meant for the life of a debutante. I summoned a great wind to lift me and carry me far away - to the Frozen Wastes. Even I was surprised by the speed at which I was carried but it still could not make my escape fast enough. I did not enjoy the flight as I do now - carrying you with me to allow you the experience that the cruelty of nature has denied you and all of penguin-kind. No, this was a sorrowful journey to far of place I knew nothing about. A self-imposed exile where I had hoped (and I know this will pain you the hear, my love) to die alone and miserable.

Alone, despondent and lacking in purpose I eventually tried to recreate a part of my life here in the Frozen Wastes. Using my abilities, I began to create the Ice Mansion, our home, and filled my days adding and improving the vast structure. The cold did not bother me in the least, I found, but the same could not be said of others. After some time I had an immaculate palace of glistening ice with all the comforts of home, yet I had no one to share it with. No dinner parties. No charity luncheons. No lazy afternoons playing tennis with friends. My dreams of finding my Prince Charming were laid to waste, for what man could possibly endure the lethally frigid temperatures of my newfound home?

Indeed, I was truly alone. Alone, that is, until you came into my life. Ah, dearest husband, what a wonderful day it was that we met. At first I must admit some trepidation. After all, I had always assumed the man to sweep me off my feet would be... well... a MAN. It did not take long though for your charming, dry wit and quiet presence to melt my heart in this frozen land. What was it about you, I wonder, which attracted me so? Was it the way you sipped your martinis? The way you commanded attention every time you walked into a room? Was it your impeccable fashion sense? I cannot say, but in that moment my heart became eternally yours - never to belong to anyone else. Our nights under the Aurora Borealis, our snowball croquet games, our chilled martinis sipped by moonlight - these are memories which live forever my love. When at last you asked for my hand in marriage I knew that my life was now yours - that your happiness was my calling.

You became my life, dearest S.R., and I tried to be as good a wife as possible. I practiced night and day to make the perfect martini. I kept the mansion in immaculate shape. I arranged all of your travel, ensuring that you stayed in only the finest hotels. As much as I could not bear to be apart from you, I knew how important your work is. Global domination and chaotic destruction is difficult, stressful and yet terribly important work. I accepted your long trips away and focused my efforts on ensuring that all was perfect when you returned home to me - a martini, smoked salmon and fin slippers awaited you as you waddled through the door. You were (and still are) an all-encompassing obsession - my husband, my love - a titan amongst men and a god amongst penguins!
A Wave of Ice
Energy Wave Surfing: Standard
Despite my dedication to your work I find myself, as I read this petty little article, wondering if you think of me as anything more than just a wife? Not that I have ever aspired to anything else, but am I really simply a "trophy"? I know that you, my love, do not see me as such, but others do. How it must pain you to have such things said about me - about us. I feel a need to prove myself to these slanderous gossip column hacks, to show them that the wife of the great Semi-Rational Penguin is not some passive, vacuous Barbie doll, bereft of genuine emotion for her husband. And so it is, my darling S.R., that I have opted to travel back to Khazan City and enter the FPL. I have heard you speak of it often, and success there would certainly prove my love and dedication to you. I do so hope that you are not upset by my actions, and know that it is out of my love for you that I take them. I must prove myself worthy of the love you give so freely. And so by the time you read this letter, I will have already arrived in Khazan atop a great wave of ice - determined and defiant - ready to show the world just what this "trophy wife" debutante can do! - Your loving wife, Chi-Chi
A Husband's Gift
Body Armor: Superior
My dearest S.R.: I have received in the mail today your wonderful and thoughtful gift. Such a caring husband - even though you disagree with my decision and are fraught with work of your own your first thoughts are of my safety. How did I ever survive without your unwavering affection and strong guidance? The suit itself is quite chic, but of course your taste in fashion has always been impeccable. Wherever did you find it? DiLorenzo of Uptown? Chaussard's? Le Boutique Superheroique? In any case, I must make a note to visit there on our next shopping excursion. It will certainly stand out amongst the rags worn by most of the combatants here - have you seen that gaudy evening gown worn by Bullet Stopper? It looks like it was pulled off the rack at K-Mart! In addition to being the most stylish ensemble in the FPL its protective properties are most welcome. Flight and the harshness of combat have indeed left me quite spent physically, some reprise from the rigours of life in the FPL will be most welcome.

I feel quite foolish for forgetting it, but once again my flighty nature has been countered by your wisdom and forethought. It had been so very long since I had been away from the Ice Mansion, I did not recall the effects non-freezing temperatures have on me. It was bad enough just being in city - I had begun to sweat and was prone to fevers - but the sadists who run the League had me fighting in the desert of all places! It was intolerable - my hair was a frizzled mess and I had to reapply my make-up after each battle and between each interview. How I longed to forgo my quest and return to the comforting chill of the Frozen Wastes, but I would not be so easily waylaid. Leave it to you, my feathered prince, to come to my rescue. This suit's temperature regulators have made things much more comfortable for me. The searing heat of this accursed Arena will no longer cause me strife. Nothing now stands in my way! I will not rest until I have proven my worth, my flightless Valentino, to all the gossip-column hacks who would dare besmirch the name of Lady Chinook! I shall return to you shortly, my love, triumphant and respected! Your loving wife, Chi-Chi.
