The darkness is choking around me.. where am I? Why do I feel so strange? A shudder passes through me, and then.. the memories. I remember a battle, terrible. Explosions all around, the surf exploding into glistening white froth as torpedoes and shells detonate about my armored hull. Deep within the valiant men and women of my crew fighting to keep my reactor running and my guns firing. Overhead the sky is thick with smoke as planes, both ours and those of the enemy twist and turn in a dance of mutual death. Except for the dive bombers.. those horrifying aircraft stooping out of the skys and loosing their payloads against me even as my far too inadequate anti-air defenses try and beat them off. A flash in the distance, the enemy carrier! My crew has seen the target as well.. but the carrier has seen us to, it's defensive aircraft swooping down, a hail of bombs wreathing me in fire. The pain is unbelievable... and another wave of agony crashes through me as one of the bombs detonates a surface magazine. But my crew can't feel my pain, and they continue pushing me forward. Cutting through the waters, all cannons blazing as I charge through the sheet of fire the carriers defenders have shrouded me in. My helmsman sends me into a ponderous turn... and then my port side erupts in a storm of thunder and hellfire as the gunners trigger all my weaponry in a perfectly synchronized broadside. The memories are coming faster now.. I remember more carriers.. ours this time, arriving. Their aircraft slashing in and decimating the remaining enemy planes. More memories.. of the captain talking with a man from the Naval yards, another, this time the Captain speaking before the crew.. and uttering that horrid, dreaded word. Decomissioned. My damage is too severe to repair, so I am to instead languish away in a forgotten naval yard. My crew gathers one last time.. each speaking parting words to me despite the fact they believe I cannot hear... and then nothing. But why have I woken now? I shake my... wait a moment. I have a head? I look down.. arms, legs.. my form is rather reminiscent of the various midshipwomen who have graced my decks over the decades.. I'm human! But that's impossible.. I am a warship! However, despite my words that does not appear to be the case.. how has this happened?

I'm so confused.. how can this be happening to me? I served the Navy for decades.. yet all that experience has ill-equipped me for the situation I now face. How am I supposed to live in this world like this? Of course! The Captain! I'll find Captain Verne, surely he'll know what to do!

Broadside I

     Concussive Attack: Supreme

It is most disconcerting. Somehow I have taken a human form, and yet, I can still feel them. The nine massive naval rifles that made my class so feared before the advent of the carrier. I give the feeling a tiny nudge.. and blink as I feel the same shift I would whenever my crew rotated the turrets. Another nudge, another movement. I ponder this for a moment before my curiosity gets the better of me and I nudge in a particular manner. A mighty crash seems to shatter the world around me, echoing from.. somewhere a moment before the water nearbye erupts in a towering geyser of water. I nudge again and once more the mighty crash and pale tower of churning water. Most interesting.. I wonder. This time I concentrate and locate the other eight points of sensation.. and gasp when I do. I can feel the rest of them! I can feel my entire armament, and I simultaneously give each the same mental nudge...

The bay erupts in a cloud of mist, the racket nearly deafening me. A grin spread across my face and I loose the thunder once more. It's all there.. all my weapons, striking with all their former might. I'm not sure how.. or where the shots are originating from, but I am grateful nonetheless. It's one of the only things that hasn't changed about me. I give another happy cry, expressing my joy in the form of another broadside into the frothing waters.

Belt Armor

     Armor Skin: Supreme

  • Reinforced Defenses

Oh this is so wonderful.. and what's this? Something about my skin, as soft and vulnerable looking as that of my former crew, but there's something.. different about it. I can feel it, a hidden strength, which I gently probe. Oh my! It feels.. it feels like my armor belts used to! Incredible really, somehow I've taken human form yet retained all my power as a battleship.. truly a miraculous occurence! Of course it needs to be tested. There, a small rock sliver at my feet. I snatch it up, test it's durability, then rake it across my arm. The razor edged shard doesn't even leave a scratch. I let loose another happy cry and a celabratory 21-gun salute. May as well celebrate now.. soon I start the search for my Captain.

The footprint

     Matter Animation: Standard

  • Ranged Attack Only

I can feel my power growing.. more and more of my old self returning. How will this affect me I wonder.. and I can feel something different about myself. As if my guns have changed once more.. not not the guns. The ammunition. I turn to the bay and fire off a shell.. and a sense of delight fills me as the water is blown outwards by the now, much larger blast wave. I fire again, and again, and agin. With each detonation a massive tower of water, now accompanied by a wavefront of displaced water lashes across the bay.

I blink in surprise. Now THOSE certainly weren't there before.. yet I can feel them. Yet more cannons.. more than any ship of my class ever carried. But where did they come from? How did I gain access to them? And why only now? Why not when I first awoke? Answers don't seem to be forthcoming however... perhaps my Captain will know?
