In an alternate timeline, an alternate universe seemingly unconnected with the Nexus of all realities we know as Khazan, even an alternate imagination, two men once existed. They served a God-like figure, one might even consider their deity something of a member of the cosmic pantheon of Gods that oversee another Khazan, somewhere in this alternate place. But not here. This is Khazan. The real Khazan, where anything can and regularly DOES in fact happen. Outlandish occurrences and happenings that one would generally find to be impossible anywhere else are a regularity here. It's here, in this Nexus of realities that we find our heroes. ~Their names are unimportant, but they'll be given anyway. John "Sloth" Gresham and Corey "Law" James. There's no particular reason that you should know either name. They aren't famous, haven't done anything spectacular that you know of, and don't live down the street from you. There are a handful of denizens of Khazan, particularly in Lowtown, that know of these two. They're employed by the Khazan Police Department, though they don't drive a squad car. They don't answer to the Chief. They damn sure don't wear a uniform. ~They're undercovers. The best at what they do, and have been for some years now. Their service jackets (surprisingly still on file at KPD HQ) show a checkered past to say the least, petty crimes on John's, swindles and cons on Corey's. Run-ins with "superior" officers, though they would tell you they were only higher-ranking, superior their ass. Write-ups, suspensions, and everything in between found it's way into their files, but some things can simply be overlooked.~It wasn't long before the two high-school friends who joined the force together were forced out of a regular patrol. They had been partners for a while, but were split after their Sergeant fielded more than a dozen complaints on them for being decidedly "less than respectful" to victims and "more than abusive" to suspects. Setting the pair up with new partners didn't solve the problem. The decision was made that undercover was the place for these two. Their records indicated that they would have no problem integrating themselves with the lesser of Khazan's population, nor would they have an inkling of a problem in fixing the problems to be found in that population. ~The two were cut loose on their own in an unprecedented move by KPD. They would draw a paycheck, and be monitored, but that was all. They'd be issued the standard sidearm for the force, and be turned out into the streets of Lowtown to do what they do best: find trouble, fix the troublemaker, and do whatever it takes. Their training, previous skills and life experiences, and particular "powers" would be what they took into the mission beyond their issued sidearm. It could be they were in over their heads, with some of the bad guys they'd read reports on...but that was only incentive to be harder men.

They're not BAD men, per say. They've done bad things, and now they do bad things in an effort to make good things happen. If you want to fight the bad guys, you have to do it their way. Sometimes they have an attitude problem, Corey's level head not always prevailing over John's temper issues, but what the hell, go in balls deep and come out clean and smiling. That's the best way in and out.

GRESH SMASH

     Berserker: Superior

  • Weakness: Limited Uses - One Use

Temper control was never a strong suit of John's, diving into a fight head first after a drink in a bar was spilled on his shirt, a crass comment was directed his way, or even a dirty look happened to catch him from across the room...that was simply his way. ~You couldn't reason with him, that was out of the question for the most part. Tables broke, chairs flew across the room, walls crumbled before the fury of John's heavy blows. His rages were on file after psychological testing was done by the force's resident head-shrinker, and he'd been logged at throwing a tantrum that could last from as short as a minute to easily breaking the hour marker (along with breaking other things). His calm came after the storm, however. The fight raged on around him wherever he happened to fly off the handle, but he just sat in the nearest unbroken chair and watched the carnage around him.~Why should he care, he got his licks in.

Backup en-route, code 3

     Commander: Superior

  • Ranged Attack Only
  • Area Affect
  • Multi-Attacks
  • Ranged and Melee Attack

Corey's sense of preparedness generally prevailed over his burly counterpart's lack of planning and balls-to-the-wall approach to things. Corey wasn't afraid to get into the thick of things, but his haste to have his partner's back never came at the expense of his first calling their mysterious contact known only as "Mojo" for backup. Never more than moments away at any given time, a squad of well-armed and tactically trained SWAT members from the KPD responded to every call that ever went out from Corey's cell phone, his text messaged request being answered with "bkup on way, cde 3" indicating the haste with which they were coming. ~Entering a room with precision and speed that only came from years of drills and training, these foot-soldiers of the KPD could quiet anything with the exception of John's berserker rages. Armed with simple assault rifles only, these ready men could engage an adversary from distances of 100 yards with deadly accuracy, or dive into the thick of things with fists and feet.

Berreta 96FS

     Projectile Attack: Standard

  • Target Seeker
  • Weakness: Power in Item - Hard to Lose

A standard issue for all KPD Undercover operatives, Corey carries his .40 Berreta model 96FS with him everywhere. Equipped with three ten-round clips, John's counterpart isn't afraid to put all thirty rounds through an opponent's melon, provided John gets the hell out of the way long enough to give Corey a clean shot. With years of practice under his belt, Corey learned the more advanced techniques to pistol use. Tracking your moving target, keep moving after pulling the trigger so you don't lose the sight, and lead your target if you need to. It's almost like the man's bullets themselves followed the target and did all the work for John's gun-happy partner.

Cranial Implant-licious!

     Mental Defense: Standard

  • Reinforced Defenses

Courtesy of their time on patrol, the duo were generously provided with a cranial implant, set an inch into the crown of their skulls lies a small chip that keeps low-class mentalists from poking around in their minds. KPD reached the decision to require the implants after a lost court battle in which a KPD officer had been mind-controlled into doing bad things to good people. True to form, the Khazan court system ruled against the mind-bent cop, sentenced him to ten years in Prison, and ignored the fact that he was killed by an inmate that he'd helped put away after only two weeks in the facility. Shortly after, KPD required all officers currently working a patrol squad to submit to having the cranial implants surgically inserted.~In the heat of battle, it only boosts the blocks the duo have in place simply through human nature: If you're not fighting it, block it out...distractions can get you killed.

Lucky Hat

     Lucky: Superior

  • Weakness: Power in Item - Easy to Lose

Without fail, John's hat was always on his head...even when he slept. His "lucky" hat was the only reason they were still alive, he used to tell Corey. ~"After all the crazy things we've gone through, you really think we'd still be alive if not for me and my lucky hat?" he'd say. Whether it worked or not was up in the air, but John never planned to find out just exactly if it was true or not. ~Kinda like keeping a bottle of elephant repellent in your house...you don't see any elephants around, do you?

Sleep now, and hurt no more

     Induced Sleep: Superior

  • Area Affect
  • Weakness: Limited Uses - Multi-Use

Equipped with nothing short of the highest quality toys and gadgets available from local law enforcement stores, John loved to carry his new fun things with him wherever he went. Last month it was an ASP baton with a flashlight in it, this month sleeping gas pellets. Corey told him it was too ninja-like to use those things, but it didn't stop John. Packaged with a pill that the company's marketing department aptly named "Wakeyoassup," it rendered John and Corey immune to the effects of the gas spreading to fill whatever environment the duo happened to be throwing down in. Available in packs of ten, there were plenty to go around and slow down those nimbly-bimbly speed-fighters, acrobats, and abnormally quick combatants. Besides, John thought, it was only the humane thing to do, what with putting his opponent to sleep so they didn't feel it when he mashed their skull.
