This post goes over some of the major points of the new FPL.

Teams

Teams provide a way for like-minded characters to team-up in the pursuit of good or evil, depending upon their goals.

When a player selects a team for their character at creation time they are joining a "Public" team which anyone can join. Teams like "The Fallen" and the "Solo Heroes" are Public teams which have no administrator. The teams created by players are "Private" teams which require permission for you to join.

There are no point bonuses or extra abilities gained by being on a private team over a public team. A team choice should be made because it compliments the character and adds to their storyline.

Players must petition Team Lead(s) to join a Private Team and the Leader may deny the request.

If admitted, the player is free to leave the Private team at any time and return to a Public team.

If admitted, the Team Leader(s) may remove the character at any time.

Team Leader may dissolve the Private Team at any time, sending all team characters back to Public Teams immediately.

Fame and Infamy Points

The point of the game is to earn Fame or Infamy points.

Heroic characters gain Fame points while Villainous characters gain Infamy points.

Earning enough points with a character will allow the player to progress and create characters at the next Level.

The Character Levels are:
- Street Level (all players starting players)
- Global Level (more powerful characters)
- Cosmic Level (most powerful characters)

In order to move to Global Level a player must have a Street Level character which earns 500 Fame or Infamy points.

In order to move to Cosmic Level a player must have a Street Level character or Global Level character which earns 1000 Fame or Infamy points.

Fame and Infamy points are accumulated in Matches.

Matches

All matches will be auto-created by the FPL system which will randomly match-up contenders.

I understand that players would like the ability to create their own matches and perhaps they will in the future. At this point, however, it is a bridge too far code-wise.

The CBUB allows people to create their own matches, but the characters in the CBUB do not have somebody who is personally invested in their progress and accumulation of points. In the FPL every match will count to the characters Fame or Infamy Point Total and players will not want their characters used for punching bags by other players. The logistics of players issuing challenges to other players for matches and those other players accepting or denying is just not something I can implement right now.

There are two basic types of matches:

- Daily Match: 1 vs 1 matches which last 24 hours.

- Weekly Matches: Team vs. Team (2v2 or 3v3) matches which last 5 days.

Daily Match: win is +15 Fame or Infamy points, loss is -10 Fame or Infamy points. Characters must have 10 Fame or Infamy points to wager to be selected for the Daily.

Weekly Match: win is +75 Fame or Infamy points, loss is -30 Fame or Infamy points for each character on the team. Characters must have 30 Fame or Infamy points to wager to be selected for the weekly.

Characters which fall to zero Fame or Infamy points will receive 10 points on Sunday so they will be eligible for one daily a week.

The Media

All characters have fans - even villains. Fans write about the Hero or Villain, discuss them on internet forums, watch You Tube videos of their exploits and so forth.

There is a small random chance (10%) each Auto-Created match that The Media will get good footage of the match which will be broadcast to a wide audience and discussed. Due to the Media Spin, winners of these matches will get a point boost while the losers will take a bigger than normal point hit.

Ties

There are no ties. In the event of a tie the FPL system will randomly "flip a coin" to determine the winner. That character is assumed to have won in the arena of Media public opinion (their fans made the strongest argument on forums and in TV interviews).

Character Options

A player can choose to make their character unavailable for Daily Matches and Weekly matches if they choose.

A character on a Private Team will be forced into the Daily and / or Weekly match if the Team Leader chooses their members must participate regardless of what the character is set available for.

Public Teams always default to the wishes of the player character options.

A player can delete their own character.

Khazan

Khazan is a hidden island off the coast of Africa which is home to Cosmic Level powers who run tournaments for their amusement.

Khazan may (or may not) have a portal to the nexus of all realities.

The Khazan Tournament

Once every quarter (three months) all characters which are available for the Tournament will be forced to enter. This occurs automatically by the FPL system.

Eligible characters are either those characters which have never been to Tourney or those characters which were finalists in previous Tourney. Characters which participate in Tourney and fail to place in the finals are never invited back to Tourney.

Tournament Winner receives an immediate +500 Fame / Infamy point bonus.

This tournament is orchestrated by the Cosmic Level powers residing on Khazan Island.

The Contest of Champions

Once per year the FPL system will take all the Tournament finalists and Champions and place them in Tournament.

Tournament Winner receives an immediate +1000 Fame / Infamy point bonus.

This tournament is orchestrated by the Cosmic Level powers residing on Khazan Island.

I didn't really want to write all that, but I figured I should get it out there.

Yeah, I figured, but I had to make the joke anyway. For the sake of nostalgia et al.
