Something just hit me about Spider-Man

He never took any self-defense classes, he was a high school student who was more interested in science and biology than boxing or martial arts.
Sure, he became a wrestler afterwards, but fighting drunken douchebags in tights is one thing. Shortly after Uncle Ben was killed, you see him taking the likes of the Scorpion, Electro or Doctor Doom with no real fighting skills to speak of (especially since we all know wrestling is fake), relying purely on his spider strength.
Sure, he got better over time, but how come he didn't got killed on those first years as a superhero? A mugger with a gun could have beaten him!
Any thoughts on this?

Before he got his spider powers, he never really knew how to fight.
He never took any self-defense classes, he was a high school student who was more interested in science and biology than boxing or martial arts.
This is true, and this is also why we see him develop his web-shooters and web-fluid, which he uses a great deal while fighting.
Sure, he became a wrestler afterwards, but fighting drunken douchebags in tights is one thing.
Partially correct, while he was a wrestler, as far as we know, none of the people he fought against was as you put it, drunken douchebags, and as such the fights would be marginally harder.
Shortly after Uncle Ben was killed, you see him taking the likes of the Scorpion, Electro or Doctor Doom with no real fighting skills to speak of (especially since we all know wrestling is fake), relying purely on his spider strength.
Fighting Dr. Doom came relatively late in his super hero career, at a point where he had already acquired a fair deal of experience, however both Scorpion and Electro was relatively early when he had no real fighting skill.
The error here, is that you make it sound like the only thing he has, is super strength, which is not true, the main reason“s for him defeating his early enemies, are a good deal of luck, and the combination of powers he possess, not purely strength.
Sure, he got better over time, but how come he didn't got killed on those first years as a superhero? A mugger with a gun could have beaten him!
No, a mugger really couldn't have killed him, due to his spider sense, and his insane agility, which allows him to dodge gunfire.
This is the main reason for why he is still alive.
Any thoughts on this?
Other than the fact that you apparently, as usual, don't know anything about the character and because of that you're coming to some wrong conclusions, not really no.

I agree with treach here. The only Spider villain with any sort of martial arts is of course Kingpin. Other than that, their all just super powered humans. You speak as if Electro and Scorpion have some sort of amazing fighting ability themselves. Most of spidey's villains gallery can't fight a lick either. They're just ordinary guys with extraordinary powers too. Hell, most of them are extraordinary geeks. Spidey's abilities are very physically based, learned fighting ability would be intuitive. He'd catch on pretty quick. Electro, not so much.

The idea of a Martial Arts Master Electro is now in my mind. How crazy would that look? He'd have like lightning bolts all over him and all his karate moves would have him shooting lighting and stuff.

But recently he lost his spider sence and thats where his lack of training comes back to bite him. He was still fast but didnt always see the threat coming. That is why he has started training in martial arts and making specialised suits at his new dream job in a science lab where they just give him cool stuff and let him make whatever he wants.
Spider-man always wins because he will take death before submission.

Now Spiderman can hold his own in a fight with or without powers since Shang Chi trained him in Kung Fu.
