The air stank of burned flesh and metal. Cole MacGrath looked around at the corpses of soldiers and infected around him, his best friend Zeke by his side. "Wow, brother. This is even worse than the reports said. Hard to believe this is New York!" Cole drew his AMP, ready to fight any monsters that came near. "Relax, Zeke. Kuo and Nix have the rest of the creatures occupied, but I need to take out the big guy now."

As they approached a crater surrounded by viral matter and trashed vehicles, assuming they would find Mercer here. "Are you lost, kids?" A sly and sinister voice echoed around the crater, and a tall thin man in a black jacket and a grey hood leapt down from a precipice above, shattering the concrete on which he landed. "Alex Mercer..." Cole pushed Zeke back, getting his friend out of harm's way. He was at the peak of his strength since Empire City, but from what he'd heard about this new viral outbreak Mercer was stronger than ever. "You don't belong here.Go back to Empire City if you want to live, MacGrath. You do remember how our last battle ended, don't you?"

Cole scowled, remembering how he had barely escaped Mercer alive, outmatched by his power months back in the first Blacklight outbreak. "Things have changed, Mercer. You're not gonna threaten this city ever again. Zeke, get out of here."

Alex peered out from under his hood, grinning as the human ran as they all did. "Let's get this over with, shall we?" A blade emerged from his arm, black and slightly luminescent with the Blacklight Virus.

This is Cole MacGrath at his full strength by the end of inFAMOUS 2, with all his ionic abilities, including ice and fire. Alex Mercer is at his state by the beginning of Prototype 2.

Good setup I think I will give you a B do to the nice match up and okay setup. Cole at the height of power level he is at may be able to put down Mercer with his electric, ice, and fire abilities.

Okay, how thick is the ice that Cole forms? And whats to stop him from wrecking Mercer while he's trying to free himself?

Yes, but Cole could just blast him apart again, and work on destroying the pieces of Mercer before they consume something.

I think Mercer's healing ability and the whole giant-sharp-blades thing he's got going trumps Cole's various blasty-powers.

While i'm sure Mercer could just heal from being blown apart by Cole, could Cole disintegrate all the separate bits of him before he healed, providing they were blown far enough away from each other?

Yes he could, but how would Cole find all of Mercer's pieces before he could consume something? And if this happens again then the other pieces of Mercer would still be lying around, making the task of finding them even more difficult. And seeing as this fight takes place in the Red Zone, Mercer could command his Infected to distract Cole if he needed to heal.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in the setup, this is a one-on-one battle, and somebody asked how think Cole's ice is, it's moderately thick. Imagine him blowing Mercer up, then frying the bits, and freezing those bits. That sort of thing

Not exactly. He may have some, I'm not sure.

Mercer's own bodily mass is incredibly dense. Seriously dense. Just a small goop of himself, and a Raven and he was able to reform himself to human size - he's packing plenty of mass that I'd think Cole would have to make an effort to freeze him to freeze all the bits. And even if he gets shattered, he's got enough mass to simply reform...

Now Aside from Cole's powers, Cole doesn't seem to be physically enhanced in terms of strength and speed - Mercer just simply needs to touch him once... and Cole's dead.

Cole doesn't seem to have above human durability, a single punch from Mercer's base would kill him.
