The Shrike, from the Hyperion books

vs

Superman, from current DC comics

They are fighting on an alternate Earth, devoid of other superhumans, but with he rest of the human population in harms way. Their respective morals are on. They know nothing of each other prior to the fight. To win one must kill or incapacitate the other.

Opinions?

Superman is not able to hit the Shrike, whereas it is able to hit him at will, you can't kill what you can't hit.

Shrike wins, easily. Superman doesn't stand a chance.

The Shrike might be faster and therefor able to hit Superman without being hit by him, but can it actually hurt him if it does hit him?

Not sure but doesn't the Shrike's mere blows cut at the Planck's Length level? If so, it pretty much means he can open Superman up easily.

Yo Ruinus, what were the Shrike's speed feats again?

Don't have to ask Ruinus, I can tell you just as well.

The Shrike is able to move so fast that even a person that sees a Laser Beam, as standing still, can't see it move.

It can also move through "the void that binds", making it capable of moving to anywhere and anywhen. By using that, and constantly moving a split second back in time, it can essentially be an entire army.

A guy was, with a special suit, moving fast enough that he could see laser moving through the air, and casually dodge it, and to him, the Shrike seemed like it was teleporting around.

That is, from what I can remember, one of the better speed feats for the Shrike.

The Shrike wins by blitzing him with speed.

Would the Shrike's ability to cut down to an incredibly small size work on Superman? Would his super strength and durability not have some effect there?

Why? Superman has been unharmed by various other bladed weapons before. I know the Shrike's blades can cut an impossibly thin slice into someone, but i would have thought Superman's superhuman durability would kick in at that point.

And even if the Shrike does cut up Superman, surely it would take a helluva lot of cuts to kill the boy scout?

And the Shrike could deliver all of those cuts faster than Superman can think.

Pre Crisis Superman is not all that faster than Post Crisis.

I'm not totally sure about reaction-wise, but in terms of getting from point A to point B, he's far faster.

Yeah, but that's not really going to matter in a fight. It's reaction speed that counts. And apparently this takes place in some universe where human perception is multiple leagues faster than the fastest thing in the universe somehow.

It could matter. Once the Shrike starts to win, Superman BFRs himself to another universe.
