The world has been war torn for some time. Nation against nation, hero against nation, world against villian. It seems that death was everywhere. On the other hand Lex Luthor has been propering from his weapons division producing countless amounts of money. The one thing that stands in his way are the superheroes of the world. He put together a science division to make him the ultimate weapon against the world's elite. The development of a bioweapon specically designed to target the metagene has been developed. The bioweapon not only attacks the metagene but any being who's body shows signs of being more than human. Just one thing is wrong with that, the side effects.

While working on this project some of the chemical agents leaked from the containment units. The chemicals wafted through the air slowly working its way throughout the lab. By the time the scientists found out it was already to late. From such a concentrated dose the scientists began to get sick. It was almost like being smothered to death. They struggled for air. Then they began to vomit their own blood and crawling trying to escape the lab but it was too late. They began to die, they began to change. After hearing about the incident Lex sent in a cleanup crew to get rid of any evidence. The crew entered the room in containment suits, covered from head to toe to clear the area. As they entered they observed something troubling, blood was everywhere but the scientists bodies were gone. Who could have gotten them out, they didn't know but all the crew saw was a trail of blackened blood that led to the back of the room. Then with startling realization they noticed the blood that led into the vents. Suddenly alarms blared and lights flashed throughout the compound. Lex keyed the microphone demanding an explanation. Suddenly he heard a scream outside his door. Then a pounding echoed through his office. His door burst open and horror filled his eyes. The scientists were grotesque but more it seemed had become infected somehow. Determined that if he was going to die he was going to take this world with him he launched the missles that had already been prepped for launch. Grabbing his pistol he blasted away at the croud but to no avail. The people kept coming thats when he realized his time was up and took his own life.

The missiles sailed through the air from a dozen different sites. Lex had planned his future strike with precision. He made sure the blasts would be accurate and the wind currents would disperse the disease to the heros. Only about half of the missiles hit the ground. The other half were destroyed in the air by the Earth's heros. It didn't matter though, they still served there purpose of distributing the chemicals. Superman tore a missle in two with his bare hands and with startling quickness he took ill. He was dead before he ever hit the ground. The world's heros with the metagenes died rapidly at first, some held out longer than others but eventually they all died. Anyone who showed advanced powers succumbed to the chemical attack. No one could have prepared for what happened next. Areas that were hit by the bomb killed millions. The only problem is that those millions didn't stay dead. With no one like the Justice League to stop them they spread throughout the globe. The military tried to stop them but nothing worked. They killed one of ours and we killed one of them but their numbers remained the same as ours dwindled. With no one able to man the factories everything fell apart. Water systems stopped pumping, electricity stopped flowing, and nuclear reactors began to overheat. Before power grids went out Batman had managed to get a small number of associates to the safety of the batcave before they too died to the teaming billions of undead now in the world. Others were out there but many in the world died protecting the civilains in vein. Since then the power has gone out almost world wide. They have reverted back to the dark ages almost all across the world. The small hydroelectric generator running off the underground river in the cave only produces enough for the cave to have power. For the time being satelites are still orbiting Earth so Batman can still get images from across the globe, it doesn't look good though. Above ground his walls are big enough and strong enough to keep out the infected but eventually they could outnumber and over run it. With everyone he rescues though it would give more to there small force. With enough they could watch over the walls and defend there small fortress. For now their are people still alive in Gotham city that need his help and he has limited people, supplies, and transportation but he knows he can't just leave them all to die. He knows the risk is great but he must find a way to save those he can so humanity is not lost forever.

Gathering supplies and volunteers he took two armored trucks that other refugee crime fighters used to get to the cave as his transportation to rescue any he can.

_{Ouch.. wall of text! Hey, this is actually pretty good though! One question before voting match winner... I assume that there are super-zombies of some of the more powerful fallen heroes among the zombie hordes, no?}

Good story, but it could been spaced and proofread more.

And I'd say the Bat family could pull this off, but with millions of Gotham citizens infected, it definitely won't be easy.

Like the rest said, could've been a little better spaced, and proofreading may have eliminated a few errors I saw. Still good, though.

I'll hold my vote until Lonewolf's question is answered. Regular zombies versus ones with super powers, could make a huge difference in the outcome.

sorry its been a few days. When I copied and pasted it made everything one big cluster. I was trying to find where all my paragraphs got blended together at but at that time I was in a hurry.

Also not in this set up but I thought about continuing with smaller metas as zombies in a small arc.

Would anyone like to see a next part?

Seeing a "DC zombies", with DC superheroes and supervillains slowly becoming zombies, would be a delight to watch.
