Alternate realities seem to exist. This is one of those worlds. Earth 999 a reality that crosses beings that would never exist due to the worlds they are from and how they were created. In this world our times have crossed and eras have crossed as well. Earth 999 has a variety of characters and beings and those beings range from the normal human to the very powerful. Somehow this world manages to hold it together for the strong and the normal. Things are pretty much like they are today. There are thriving cities, there are badlands, there are barren places. This world seems like everything you know save for one thing. This earth has 'regions' and these regions are generally left alone for the most part. There is a governmental body that tries to reign in the populous that is out of control and when that can't be done this is where the powers that be become the powers that are not powerful. Many times the very government that protects the people has had to call on the help of many super powered beings to be able to quell the problems in the world. In this case there is a man called Captain America and he has come to the service of the United States of America many times. Captian America has also gained the ire of many people during his resurrection and there have been many attempts on his life. He never let that stop him though and he never let that keep him from risking his life no matter what the situation was. Captain America has finally stopped his old nemesis the Red Skull from another one of his attempts to control the world itself. Finally the Red Skull has been put away and given a fair trial which of course Captain America was allowed to testify. The evidence he gathered was enough to quell the attempts of the Red Skull and this for once was something that drove the Red Skull to the brink of demanding revenge for him. As he is being led away in the courtroom, the Red Skull swears he will indeed have the head of Captain America and that he would be visited soon. Before he is led away he manages to signal to one of his hidden supporters in the courtroom. The man knows exactly what to do as this was put in motion long before the end of the trial. As far as Captain America is concerned it's another day at the office to protect america. Once it is over he goes back to what he normally does and that is live life until something comes up in the form of a challenge.
Soon, this will be interrupted as a man travels to what is known as the supernatural region of Earth 999, it is not a place that many travel to because it seems to be a haven for those who are of magical and supernatural creation. It is not that they can not exist anywhere else on Earth 999 it is just that once the government knew that these beings wished to be left alone they were content with that and they don't intervene in that region. The region for the most part is virtually lawless. The way the goverment sees it is that if they know where the majority of them are, then it is easier to stop them if they ever became a problem. Yet things work out for the most part as they seem to keep to themselves in the supernatural region. That doesn't mean that people will stay away as there are those who are brave and those who are ambitious and this leads to a very interesting mixture of people going in and out of this place and the servant of the Red Skull has finally crossed into these lands and he is looking for a person that can help him. He already knows where he has to go per the instructions given. The arrangements have been made and now that the sun sets the time is near for the meeting to go down. Inside the region there is a place called 'the void' a dark place and that place is an area that is seen as a neutral zone for those who reside here. The void is the place for solace and where most humans who come here can do so and guarantee to not be harmed. The red skulls servant waits as he seems to be alone for hours and then finally as the evening comes and the day gets darker he sits there on a simple steel bench in this park like area of the void and over the hill he comes.
Not to say that he is the least bit impressed as living in this world reveals you to seeing a lot of different beings. He comes in, wide hat, dressed in all black, sword with him and riding on a cyborg horse. The servant of the red skull isn't even moved by his pale skin and long nails as he doesn't dismount as he stops knowing that this is the man that he has come to speak to. The servant of the skull stands and begins to speak to him with a slight german accent that has all but faded due to his time as a double agent changing languages and faces so many times. He looks up at the large figure of a man as his horse stays all but still and he peers through his eyes narrowing as he hears what the man states...
Man: I am here to make an offer to you, you are a bounty hunter and I wish to hire you on behalf of the Red Skull. You are Vampire Hunter D.
VHD: Go on. I'm listening.
Man: I am sure you have heard of the man I work for, the Red Skull. He is troubled by a man who is named Captain America. This man has caused him problems with his plans and we need a man to take him down once and for all.
VHD: Captain America...yes...i know of him...go on...
Man: We have agreed on a sum for you and I am prepared to deliver half now and the other half once you bring us his head or proof of his death.
VHD: You want him dead and simply to get him out of the way so that your evil plans can succeed? Why would I help you? I never said I would take the job.
Man: What? (getting angry) We agreed on a sum and you agreed to meet me! How dare you play with me? I represent the red....
(a sword point at his throat brings him to silence)
VHD: I don't care what you represent, I am not an evil being, I stop evil and I only hunt Vampires so this type of job is of no interest to me, I merely wanted to see what you would go through just to make a proposal.
Man: You can get that sword out of my face! I am not done yet. Evil or not, you take bounties and while you may not want to take this job I assure you that you indeed will or the joke will be on you.
VHD: Not if I kill you first.
Man: (Laughing) Do you believe that the Red Skull would send someone incapable of protecting themselves from the likes of you? You FOOL!! You will hear me!!!!
(Before Vampire Hunter D can move he is surrounded by a force field and he indeed strikes with his sword yet can't cut through it. D stays calm as he tries think of a way out of this..)
Man: In anticipation of your rebellion I laid out that force field generator that is activated by this small device in the palm of my hand. You stopped exactly where I thought you would and try as you might, you can not escape, you will indeed hear me!!
VHD: Well, since you seem to have all the cards I guess I have no choice.
Man: You may not want to take this job er..."D" yet I assure you that once you find out that we have certain information that leads to your being found for a certain contract that you once accepted that led to the death of a very important man..
VHD: (eyes narrow as the memory of this pops into his mind almost immediately)
Man: Though it was deemed an accident, you being who you are chose to not try to explain yourself and vowed never to show yourself in normal human society! Yes this is a vast, vast land and there are many contracts for you to accept here in this land yet one word from us and they will indeed come after you and vanquish you once and for all for the death that you had a hand in. You remember the night don't you? You were supposed to kill Dr. Micheal Morbius as they had put a contract out on him for people that he had destroyed. You being a vampire hunter took the job knowing that you would be able to kill him or so you thought. It did not go according to plan did it "D'? You killed an innocent woman that night and not just any woman, it was the wife of the mayor of Red City. A city that you and many of your kind had existed in many years before you all began to migrate here. You had him cornered and he had taken her captive as a meal and was about to dine on her blood when you, being the skilled swordsman that you are accidentally miscalculated and killed her instead. There was no explanation for it as you simply erred didn't you? Yet you know that she had connections to very powerful people in the government who will come after you and hound you and make your life very, very difficult should anyone find out that it was indeed you. With you being a vampire and misunderstood in this world, you didn't take any more contracts. She was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time...this is how the world works.
VHD: So I take this contract and you keep my secret?
Man: Yes. However should you not deliver, the people that need to come after you for this unsolved murder will surely find you with our help of course. And you already know that they are really against letting yoru kind survive as is.
VHD: I will survive regardless.
Man: Oh? The only reason you survive now is because you stay away from the most prominent parts of society, they simply wish to look the other way. You stay here and as you know you may be a dhampir yet they still see you as more vampire than human. I am human and you know human nature, human nature is simply to kill what you don't understand.
VHD: What happened was an accident and anyone who would look into this would know this.
Man: Then why have you never went before anyone to claim your innocence? This is because YOU know as a Dhampir that they would persecute you instead of give you the benefit of the doubt. Yes Vampires are tolerated in this world yet they are never trusted and are seen as dangerous.
VHD: Maybe, yet I have never taken a human life.
Man: We know this to be true yet we don't care and they don't care. You know for yourself that no matter what you do, your nature is to feed regardless of your killing your own kind. People fear you, people have no true use for you because of what you are and you know this. However, should you deny us this job we will make sure that we put the wheels in motion to make your life the living hell that the Red Skull knows he can.
VHD: Not if I go to people and tell them the truth.
Man: Oh don't make me laugh "D" you know you won't because you would have if you felt anyone would believe you, however there is one little benefit of this if you take this job.
VHD: There isn't a benefit in killing a man like Captain America.
Man: Yes there is because we can make sure that you and your kind are protected from harm "D" and that won't change anything, you can still hunt any vampire or creature of the night you want, yet once the Red Skull takes over and manipulates the government as we know he shall, then you need not worry about being hounded or hunted for what you are. You won't have to stay in this region for fear of people bothering your kind. My leader is generous and has a place for all in the new world that he is proposing.
VHD: New world? New place of restraint.
Man: Come now "D", you know that in this day and time the old ways of looking at simple domination of a species need not be done by slaughter of innocents and bloodshed.
VHD: You talk to me of bloodshed?
Man: Ironic is it not? You have to understand that while you think we are killing Captain America for nothing more than the thrill of it, the ideals he has simply do not work, this world can not go on with people like him trying to hold on to something that died in the 1940's. This is America and you are a vampire and why can't you live as you please? Do these beloved humans you wish to protect give you any of the protection you provide to them? They run to you to kill and they see you as nothing more but an instrument to kill. You are nothing but something to use to them and you still can't roam these lands as free as you want to be. Yet if you listen to me and once the Red Skull is freed and new laws are in place you won't have to hide anymore, you can be where you want and have a true purpose and a true life worth living. What has this society truly given you? Is this America an america for all Vampire? Is it and do you believe you somehow fit in now? No you never will no matter what so your pragmatic way of living only serves YOUR personal view but what does it do for anyone else? At least WE are including many and not trying to persecute as we know what you want does not clash with what we want.
VHD: How do you know what I want?
Man: Because you hate what you are and you would give it up if you could. If I am wrong then strike with your sword. I know I can't escape your speed, your power, I know. Am I wrong?
..looking at Vampire Hunter D...
Man: AM I WRONG!!!?? TELL ME!!
...D for better or worse knows this human has hit a nerve. He knows he must consider what he is offering even if he is lying. Its too risky not to take it.
VHD: You are crazy, if I kill a human and especially Captain America nothing you can do will ever protect me I am better off as I am and dealing with what I am.
Man: Really? You know you don't want to die...if you did you wouldn't be here and how many more hundreds of years are you going to ride that horse around in the dark killing for nothing else than thinking that this is all you are good for?
Left hand: You gotta say the dude's got a point D...I mean come on its just one guy! One kill, get paid, freedom!
..D mashes his hand closed muffling left hand...
Man: What is it going to be D? Kill Captain America or play your cards as they are?
...D thinks...
Man: I already know what your answer is. There is no other way you survive but to kill. Just let us know when the job is done.
..the servant of the red skull walks off into the distance as D knows now what he has to do, yet the thing that D doesn't know is that other things are in motion as they have hid an ace up their sleeve..
Nick Fury is on the phone with Captain America and Captain America is looking at the profile of none other than Vampire Hunter D. What Vampire Hunter D doesn't know is that Nick Fury was fed the intel from the spies that the Red Skull has hidden in his organization. So overall, Captain America will be given a job. This job?
CA: Nick you know I am not an assassin are you out of your mind?
NF: Cap, this man killed a very important person. We need to keep this under wraps.
CA: Keep this under wraps? I have a code and you know that and I don't like going against it. What are you really asking for here outside of a life being taken for revenge and this is what it sounds like to me. I won't go against the rule of law.
NF: You won't have to Steve. All you will have to do is find him and then talk him into giving himself up. Plus with your skills he can't kill you. You will be fine.
CA: I will be fine and why would I take this job Nick? Regardless of WHO he killed I..
...a fax comes over..and Steve looks at it...
NF: What you should see now is another document Steve. Look at it closely. It is a breakdown of your family tree..
...Captain America looks at it and can't believe his eyes...
NF: Yes, the person he killed was related to you Steve. A family member crying out for justice and will you give us that justice Steve? Think about it, and say hello to Gina.
CA: Gina?
...a blonde walks in, in a black jacket and shades and a briefcase, she sits down right in front of Captain America and opens the case and shows Captain a syringe.
CA: Nick what the HELL are you ...?
NF: Gina is going to help you Captain. That injection she has will enhance your strength to the level of what the Vampire should be we estimate, you will be his equal. You wont have his speed but it will make you strong enough to hold your own. The only problem is it lasts for 24 hours. No side effects, no pain, problems. It won't give you anything but a power boost WAY beyond what you are now. And..
...Gina opens another case and lays out a suit for Captain America...
CA: Nick what the hell is this?
NF: What Gina is showing you is a suit made for you. Special alloy that is just like wearing your own clothes yet hard as titanium and giving you the extra protection you will need to take those blows. The stuff makes you stronger but not impervious to pain.
CA: Some kind of space age steroid?
NF: Well you are already on one Steve..so what's one more shot?
CA: Alright...
NF: Gina will tell you where to go from here...nice working with you Steve...we know you will do a good job.
..Nick hangs up and Captain America has a decision to make. So he makes it, he will hunt down Vampire Hunter D and at the same time Vampire Hunter D is going to hunt him. Within an hour Captain America knows the region where Vampire Hunter D would be and he has arrived and is walking around in this barren land looking for him and sure enough like clockwork Vampire Hunter D, seemingly homing in on Captain America is there on his horse looking down at the man in the red, white and blue.
VHD: Looks like I don't have to come find you after all.
CA: Same here, looks like i saved you the trip.
VHD: (Surprised) You came here looking for me?
CA: Yes I did and you will answer for what you did and I am going to bring you to justice for killing a member of my family!
VHD: It was an accident.
CA: That doesn't disregard the law! If you believed in the law you would have spoken up and confessed to this!
VHD: Who would believe me? Who would want to and I see now that no matter what I do I won't be left alone.
CA: This isn't about a witch hunt its about justice and I am asking you to come with me.
VHD: This is a setup Captain America...the Red Skull is manipulating everything...
CA: The Red Skull is locked up! Don't try to talk your way out of this one, Red Skull or no Red Skull come in with me and all will be sorted out. I am asking you for the last time! Don't make me take this to another level ...
VHD: I am sorry, I can't do that.
...D steps down from his horse and grabs his sword and Captain America grabs his shield..
CA: After this you will believe in justice!
VHD: After this you will believe in the afterlife...

This was a great setup from you Anu, although I do feel Cap's worry about taking on a being stronger than himself a bit out of character.
Vampire Hunter D should be the one walking away with the victory. Even with the strength boost and high-tech armor D's speed and skill advantages should prevail in the end
