[Doom]

Latveria was a prosperous nation. A land of promise, of serenity. Its atmosphere, devoid of pollution, of the hopelessness that pervaded most of the outer world beyond its borders. Boasting some of the worlds greatest scientific achievements and technology, as well as numerous other methods of revolutionary advances from agricultural technique to medical breakthroughs that even now, were being used and taught in many hospitals around the globe.

Yes, Latveria and its people were everything the outer world envied and wished for their own citizens. How could they not? After all, it was all according to his design. A glimpse into the world, the paradise that could be for all if he wasn't constantly thwarted in his design by lesser and jealous beings. But his day would come, and it would be in deep contemplation of this in particular that the Master of Latveria itself would be considering as he stood upon the tower of his castle. Arms crossed in contemplation, and an expression as impassive and cold as the mask he wore upon his face as he looked out upon his beloved nation-state.

Like a father to his people, he led them. His methods cruel, sometimes twisted but on the whole, always for their betterment, their growth, and time and again, he would always be proved in the right. As he would be proved right in all things. He was a tall man, with a majesty and a bearing that all acknowledged, enemy and thrall alike in their service or in their constant battle against him. His armor, a work of art in and of itself, crafted with his own hands and his own genius. Sorcery and Science, made one in his own image. A bit of irony at that, but one which had long served its purposes for him. As befitting his presence, a green cloak and hood would be ever-present upon his person, rich and of royal make, but in the style of the gypsies from whence this man sprang from. A rich heritage in which he had upraised in his rule, as befitting his people.

Who was this man? What right did he have some asked, to impose his will upon the world and the stars? The answer to such, if it would be asked to his face would be such.... "He was Doom." In manner, and in name. And one way or another, the world shall fall to their knees before him....Or be numbered among his fallen foes. And quietly, he turned in a direction and mused aloud.

"A storm approaches....And so does the hand of Doom."

And considering for a moment, he glanced behind him as his faithful manservant approached.

"Master. Will you not come in? The forecast predicted a violent storm this day and the danger to your person-"

At some unseen signal, perhaps in Doom's posture or otherwise, he would shut up as Doom himself continued his vigil before he spoke.

"Danger?" Bah! Let the Heavens rage and vent their fury! Let mighty Zeus fling his spear at the person of Doom if he dares! Doom does not bend, nor scurry at the coming of clouds."

And in open defiance, he flung his hands in the direction of the rapidly darkening skies around Castle Doom as behind him, Boris retreated until he was in the shelter of the doorway. Just in time, as the storm began to rumble. Thunder rolled, the winds began to howl and from the shadow of the doorway, Boris would note his master standing there in its midst. Unmoving and unbreakable as ever as the lightning flashed upon the heights, illuminating his person for a moment as he raised his hands above his head and declared aloud.

"O'th' dreadful thunderclaps, more momentary and sight-outrunning were not; the fire and cracks of sulphurous roaring the most might Neptune seem to besiege, and make his bold waves tremble, yea his trident shake!"

Some part of Boris would recognize it instantly as a quotation from Shakespeares, "The Tempest". The rest of him would be more in awe at the awesome spectacle that Doom commanded as the storm vented and raged in living reply to the Iron Monarch. The Master of Latveria....The future ruler, of the world. And let all his enemies beware. But first, an obstacle needed to be removed….And it would start, in Gotham City. It was time to leave Latveria for now. The world awaited, and afterwards?
Who could say?

Much later, off the coast of Gotham City….

It was time for Phase 1 of the plan to bring down his enemies to his knees. Unfortunately, concerning his plans for Gotham City, Mr. Wayne would no doubt take it as a personal attack upon his territory and respond accordingly. And Doom while secure in his power, had some measure of respect at least for the Batman and so he would be engaged in special work now...Gotham's villains were to familiar, to uncouth for his tastes to work with and Doom was certainly no criminal type to sully his hands directly.

And so he would be engaged in seeking out a proper agent in which to lay his schemes.
Lord Arachnos perhaps? Hmmm....The spidery supervillains cabal was extensive, and Lord Arachnos himself something of a schemer himself. A man after Dooms heart but unfortunately, not what he was looking for. He removed his name from the list and continued on....

Bullseye?

Hmmm.....No. The Batman was more than a match for the assassin, Doom had no qualms concerning that and would continue on. One name after the other, each one more devious and destructive then the last. Until finally, he came to a particular one which made him pause. A Korean woman, with a sinister grin and an interesting bit of technology in her eye that as he peered forward, intrigued him....As well as the look in her eye and smiling behind his mask, Doom spoke aloud.

"Yes....Yes, you shall figure well in Dooms plans for Gotham." And activating his communications, he
spoke his commands into the computer.

"Find me Juri Han!"

Doom had commanded....And thus, Doom would be obeyed and outside, fish would swim by as Doom crossed his arms and waited....His vessel, beneath the waves as it hid from all who sought it out.


It was only a matter of time now once more.

Meanwhile, elsewhere....

Batman would be watching the city from his perch atop the Gargoyle. A frown on his face, and a machine in hand, designed to pick up the odd conversation or cry for help around the city as he began to sweep the section he was in. Hearing all sorts of conversation....Until coming to one that stopped him cold.

"-Did you hear what happened to Scarecrow?"

"Yeah, he was yelling and screaming all the way to Arkham! Asking what he was doing there, what

was going on...It was nuts!"

"Think he finally went off his rocker?"

"If he hasn't by now...."

Minor conversation, but it was enough to showcase the situation in Gotham City. It was quiet, with not even the super villains making enough of a ruckus to really gain his attention. Mostly it seemed to be petty crimes, half-hearted schemes with many of his old foes going to ground for one reason or another that none of them cared to share. A prime example, was the Joker who just last week, killed several people in public and then turned himself into the police, laughing all the way to Arkham Asylum…Why, he didn’t know. It was like having only half the pieces for a jigsaw puzzle, or reading a book with missing chapters sporadically.


At any rate, something was happening that one person knew at any rate, and with a flap into the night as he leaped off his perch, the Batman glided off. Time to visit Arkham Asylum….

Arkham was just as unfriendly as he remembered. Every inmate, throwing him a dark glare or a profane shout, and others promising bloody vengeance once they got out. Nothing new in other words, and approaching the Jokers cell, he’d be allowed inside as he looked down at the other.
Clad in a straitjacket, and wearing a permanent grin, the Joker would cackle as he noticed who it was.

“Batsy! Long time, no smell! Take a seat, take your mask off! I promise not to tell.
Ehehehahahahaha-Oof!”

The Batman’s response was to smack him in his stomach, enough to knock the wind out of him as he stood over him and spoke.

“I’m in no mood for games Joker. And I know you well enough that you never do anything without a reason. Now what’s going on that you’d turn yourself into the police just like that? What’s your game?”

Coughing from his place on the ground, it would soon turn into laughter as the Joker grinned.

“Why, no game at all ol’chum! I just wanted a seat to watch the fireworks when they arrive. You have no idea what’s coming do you pajama boy? But we do….Oh yes, we do indeedy-do! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

And rocking with laughter once more at Batman’s growing rage, he adopted a high-pitched tone of voice as he called out.

“I’m going to sing the Doom song! Doom, doom, doomy-doomy-doom-doom! Doom! Doom! Doom! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!”

And knowing he’d get nothing more from Joker, Batman scowled and left the cell. The final words of Jokers song echoing behind him as they continued to drive into his brain.

“Doom…..Doom…..Dooooooom!!!”

The set-up: In his plan to destroy the Justice League one by one, Doom sallies forth to destroy the brain, the Batman, in a plan that shall soon engulf all of Gotham City. Whether the Bat can be able to withstand the machinates of Doom, who can say? Let the game of Shadows begin.

And awesome set up by the way, and knowing Doom, this is something which he can accomplish very nicely! I am voting Doom!

Since the "secret" is out now, welcome back, Hugo!

And nice comeback with the set-up. Wow, this really would've given me a run for my money in the March Challenge. Hell, the theme here probably would've fit in for the April Challenge, if not for the fact that you would've needed to use two unused characters. In my mind, only a few grammar and spacing mistakes keep this from being just about perfect. You can edit your set-ups now, though, so that's nothing major.

As for the match, Doom can probably take down the Bat with whatever grand scheme he's got planned, but it won't be easy by any means. Personally, I can't wait to see who Doom targets next, should he succeed here.

I have to say that was very well written. I loved how you tied in the two characters like they had always existed together. "A" from me sir.

After thinking about this I believe that Doom would win in a technical since. He may be able to indispose of Batman through keeping him out of the way but without a direct confrontation he couldnt kill Batman.

So Dooms win by distraction and keeping him to busy to help the other JLA members. I believe he would keep him busy like in the recent Batman comic where he was trapped in the Court of wls Maze. It would be something along those lines that just kept him so busy he wore himself out.
