I have a list of my favorite fictional characters on my computer. I have a pattern that I follow: none of them are the main protagonist rather they all tend to be some type of badass (sometimes obscure) supporting character.

5.) John McClane (Die Hard)- I like how he was just a normal guy who could take on the world and win. No matter how bad or hard his life got, John McClane could over come the odds and walk away as the hero. Never looking for credit, only to do the right thing.

4.) Micheal Myers (Halloween 1,2, and 4)- The best movie slasher of all time (not my favorite, but the best). Seemingly unstoppable, or very determined, Myers never tried to be a "monster" just a killer. In my mind that made him the best monster. He wasn't dead, divine, magic, or too based on gimmick. He threw on a white Captain Kirk mask and let his actions do all the talking. Making him a legend of horror films. Without ever speaking a single word.

3.) The Joker (The Dark Knight)- The Joker was already a big name in comics and film, but in 2008 TDK showed the best Joker of all time. A mixture of the comic book psycho, the comedic trouble maker of the 60's, and the dark minded movie version of 1989 film. In 2008, The Joker became a figure of senseless violence and psychosis. By far the best depiction of a comic book villain in the history of film.

2.) Darth Vader (Star Wars Episodes 3,4,5, and 6)- Considered one of the (if not THE) best villains of all time, Darth Vader is the most dark minded character in the original Star Wars films. Being skilled in lightsaber skills, force control, and leadership, made Vader the largest threat in the (Star Wars) Universe. Covering himself in a robotic suit and being a face-less evil dictator made Darth Vader one of the most iconic figures in film history and possibly the most iconic villain in all of films.

1.) Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Red Dragon)- One of the most interesting and intelligent characters in any movie. Hannibal always seems to be several steps ahead of those hunting him, and more dangerous than any slasher villain could hope to be. Yet while killing and eating those around him, and while committing acts of kidnapping and torturing his them, Hannibal is still seen as a good guy by living by a twisted code that makes the watcher root for him and almost see him as a hero, no matter how evil he proves to be. Lecter is my pick for best film character of all time.
