Fight 1 - Ursus Rojam vs. Karen Fox

Arena

Concert Stage
The music is hypnotic. The lights are almost narcotic. The performer...larger than life. That is until a fight breaks out and two combatants take the stage. Security better back down; this is not the time to be brave. Get out your cameras folks, because tonight is going to be a night you'll never forget.

“Are they serious?” Karen says aloud to the cameras watching her every move. Meanwhile, a baying crowd of fight fans hoot and holler ready to see blood. “Seriously…this..is strange.” She finishes. As she talks to her lupine companion, Robert, she leans over the edge of a concert stage located in Gethed Circle in lower Lorin, Khazan. “It is a bit odd, but I’m assuming they are trying to go for a real street fight sort of feel here.” He replies. She nods in agreement. As she rises, a feeling of dread also rises from within her as a massive shadow envelops her and Rob. Both turn quickly to find a full sized bear with stripes like a tiger leering at them menacingly. Rob growls and Karen assumes a fighting stance.

Casually, the bear walks away and goes to his corner of the stage where he sits patiently. “What in creation!?! I’m fighting a bear!” Rob smiles and grabs her shoulder. “You train with a wolf?” Her face askews. “True.” Rob begins to leave the stage and gives one last word of advice. “Just don’t call him honey.” Karen’s face drops and she sighs, “That sucked.” Suddenly, a gigantic display screen is lowered from above. With a quick flicker, the night’s commentators appear.

Kabuki: Welcome ladies and gentlemen to Masuta Tengoku’s World Martial Arts Tourna…

Doc Velocity: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

Kabuki: I’m sorry, what?

Doc Velocity: Teddiursa! Itz ah bear type Pokemon! I needz it for mah collectiooooon!

Kabuki: I’m sorry madam president; I don’t follow…what exactly is a Poke…

Doc Velocity: GOTTA CATCH EM ALL!! *Doc then proceeds to throw her emptied bucket of chicken at the bear. Through some sort of strange Khazanian magic, it leaves the screen and hits the bear.* Uh oh…I believe that made him mad.

Kabuki: I believe it did. Now he’s looking over here.

Doc Velocity: FIGHT!!

Rules: The first round is based completely on powers. Each fighter can debate on why they think their fighter would win based on the powers they have. PLEASE TAKE THE ENVIRONMENT INTO CONSIDERATION. This is a good opportunity for some of the more experienced FPLers to help new users understand the powers and how we usually use them or how they can be used creatively in combination with each other. If the competitors would like, they can RP their fight.

Voting: This round will be determined by Poll. Please try not to vote on the round until you have truly heard all arguments and determined a winner based solely on fighting skills.

Easy win for Karen. Better at martial arts and fast enough to dodge any swipes coming from Ursus. Leaping vs Acrobat would make for a beautiful stage performance before Ursus is pounded into the dirt.

Karen

Superior Agility, Standard Strength, Body, Mind
Superior MA
Standard Iron Will
Standard Acrobat
Standard Empathy
Standard Reaction Speed

Ursa

Superior Strength, Agility, and Body, Standard Mind
Standard MA
Standard Hyper Senses
Standard Transformation
Standard Leaping

Both are fairly equal as far as maneuverability goes. Both have Superior Agility, and the Standard Acrobat and Leaping kinda negate one another. So they won't have a problem navigating the waves of people in the audience.

Ursa can really take a punch with his Superior Body and transforming into a heartier bear-tiger form. He can also deal a bit more damage with each hit, but he isn't going to be as accurate since he only has Standard MA. At the same time, Karen will be able to land more hits with her Superior MA and Standard Reaction Speed augmenting those hits.

Again, I think this comes down to the terrain, and in this case I think Ursa's Hyper Senses will be a hindrance. His animal-like senses may be overwhelmed by the music from the stage and the noise from the crowd. If he were in a quieter environment, these senses may be the edge that lets him win the fight, but here he's probably gonna have sensory overload and that should be the thing that allows Karen to win.

Ursus Rajom

All stats superior except Mind

Martial Arts (St): Capoeira
Hyper Senses (St)
Transformation: (St)
Leaping (St)

Karen Fox

All stats standard except Agility

Martial Arts (Su): Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Escrima Kali, Zui Quan and Wing Chun
Iron Will (St)
Acrobat (St)
Empathy (St)
Reaction Speed (St)

Looking at this, I’m going to say that in human form, Karen is going to whoop his ass. She has many skills to choose from and a lot of agility and quick reaction speed to deal with a little tricky Capoeira. Plus with her empathy, she can perhaps anticipate a few strikes as she can tell when he is hurt or angry and perhaps manipulate that knowledge. However, the big guy goes Bear and you lose empathy. I don’t think any degree she has is going to show her what a bear is thinking. So, now we have a gigantic bear that is stronger, tougher and agile against a little girl who can take a punch every now and then. With the agility level of these guys, I don’t see falling off a stage as a problem. Plus, with Ursus’ strength, he may toss a chair at her. I am leaning towards the bear in a straight fight.

and yes, I stole you thing Landon because I wasn't sure you were going to do it and it saves everybody the time of having to go back and forth.

The sensory overload. Good point. Didn't think about that. Nice.

How come? Acrobat + Reaction Speed + Superior Agility means Karen's dancing around any big sluggish bear. Iron Will is taking any hits. And Superior Martial Arts is dealing A good amount of damage.

The bear has equal amounts of agility and counters Acrobat with Leaping. He also counters Karen's attacks with a stronger pelt. Last, Superior martial arts isn't damage dealt, it is the amount of skill the fighter has. She is more skilled than the bear, but the bear matches in strength. I'll admit Landon changed my mind a bit. He will be hard pressed to win because it would take a lot for him to hit the quicker girl. Plus when he hits her, she's going to take that first hit like a pro and keep coming. My mind has been changed. I'm leaning towards Karen more.

Kabuki:

Wow, ok, thought we were doing a weight class system for this tournament. But I guess it's whatever Ten wants... Anyway.

Offensively it appears that well, he's a bear. And she's not. So he's got that going for him. He's stronger, tougher, and just as agile, not to mention the claws and fangs and such. However I will give the Fox some credit, she is very quick on her feet and very skilled. She can pepper him with plenty of quick jabs and navigate the crowd easily. But I'll be honest, a few jabs might just piss him off. I don't know, maybe that will make him easier to take, put him in some sort of bear headlock, or maybe--he's--eeeech--a powerslam--shhhhh--hairbrush--EEEEECh---and--schhhhh--not dance dance revolution.

Hmm?...Oh sorry folks, I've just been told my mic is having interference issues because somebody is using the commentators control box to tweet about the fight... Moving on.

Defensively, the super-bear is very hearty, and is deceptively quick. He's got a great chin on him. But so does little Karen and it will be interesting to see if he underestimates her. Perhaps if she plays dead she can get the drop on him.

I've also been told that the fighters have additional sensory powers. Ursus has that super-snout to help him rout out Karen should she try to fade away into the crowd. However I've been to Khazan's Concert Pavilion, and that place smells like stale-beer and marijuana 24-7 so its going to be pretty difficult. And Karen has, Empathy. Empathy? Really, we're counting Empathy as a superpower now? What, can she make him fall in love with her?...Ugh, bad mental image, forget I asked.

Anyway a lot has been made about the contestants special agility abilities. From my take leaping can help you move a great distance in a small time, Acrobat helps you dodge a small distance in an unconventional way. The bear might want to negate acrobatics by disappearing into the crowd and then pouncing. If he can surprise her, he can pin her and use those claws when she can't escape. On the other hand Ursus is not that sneaky considering the size and all that, and leaping may be less useful than acrobat with all those people in the way.

Speaking of the people, I just want to assure everyone that they are completely safe, precautions have been taken, Hmmm? What's that Mike? You're telling me that--ssshhhh---pcccc----maul and injure---shhhh---echhh--Liability--the right door--schhh--running for their lives. I hope you all got that. Woah, that was a close one huh?

just to be sure, rob remington is paying for all the accidental injuries caused by the bear right?

I see Karen taking this.

I don't have much new to add, other than what's already been said: she's more skilled, quicker (in a few ways), and is deceptively capable of taking a punch.

True, Ursus can take a hit himself with that Body stat of his, but I don't see it as more capable than Iron Will. As for the Leaping vs. Acrobat, I'm actually giving the edge to Acrobat in this given environment. You're talking about a cramped concert hall. Leaping is going to be a lot more difficult, whereas acrobatics are versatile and much more capable of allowing the user to maneuver tight confines. Were we talking about an open field, then I'd probably change my tune. As it is, however, I see Karen having the overall advantage in the maneuverability department.
