The singularity field launches toward the drones. They try to break formation, but it is too late, as eight out of the group of ten get sucked into the singularity field. The remaining two return fire via rockets, they impact against Stallone's shields with a thundering roar. Corvette's hack turns away five out of the ten drones, another two get downed by fire from Johnson. The remaining three also fire rockets, and they impact against the entire group, making the elevator shudder and buckle under their feet.
Xandrad crashes through the door. He takes a quick scan around, his radar earlier showed a high density of people in this area, it was worth checking out, and might provide clues to what was going on here. A scientist gaurded by mercs met Xandrad's eyes. The mercs instantly opened fire. Xandrad rolled to the side, firing his SMGs. The mercs were lightly armored, it was obvious that they hadn't expected anyone to invade the facility. Their work must be top secret. After a brief but intense firefight, the mercs dropped dead. The scientist's eyes widened in surprise as he picked up a merc's weapon... and shot himself. Xandrad walked over to the Scientist's body, downloading all data from his omnitool. The scientist was attending to a large tank, whose insides were concealed by a shutter. Xandrad keyed a control to open the shutter, and it withdrew.
Xandrad stumbled backwards in surprise. It couldn't be... But it was. There was no doubt about it; the most famous human face in the entire galaxy was staring at him from the tank. "Its f*cking Commander Shepard," Xandrad whispered. A quick read over the scientist's data proved it was a clone, but a high value target nontheless. A recorded conversation between two mercs went accordingly,
“You see what they’re housing in there?”
“No one does, it’s some top secret science mumbo jumbo.”
“Well, I was on shift the night they let it out for a combat exercise.”
“5 f*cking waves of our best mercs and mechs. Decimated.”
“I cleaned up the f*cking mess. Either they’re housing a mini army in that tank, or they’ve got some kind of super soldier.”
“Whatever it is, better hope it’s in a good mood when they decide to let it free.”
The whole Prothean dig site was a simple fraud; this was the real secret, the real target. And someone knew this, and manipulated the hanar to get it. Xandrad knew he couldn't let whoever it was get a hold of such a weapon, so with further ado, he keyed open the tank, the liquid was drained, and the door popped open with a hiss. Xandrad quickly removed the breathing apparatus and diagnostic wires from the body, and set him on the floor. He pumped the prone man's heart manually, until he shuddered violently with a cough. He was coming to.
