UNSC Field Command Colonel Gale paced in his field tent, anxiously awaiting news from high command. They had fought the enemy clear through to the city, but that's where the marines had stalled. These white armoured soldiers were just too dug in there and just wouldn't give any ground. What was worse was that they were running low on ammunition. He stopped pacing as he heard the sound of a pelican start to come in for a landing, and drew the flap of his tent aside to watch. 'This is it? One pelican is all they're giving me?' he thought to himself as it settled to the ground. He walked out to meet the new troops, but immediately froze in place as he saw just who they were. Four white and black camo clad soldiers walked out of the pelican, formed a line in front of the Colonel and saluted. "When we asked for reinforcements, I didn't think they'd send us Spartans" he said returning the salute. One of the Spartans spoke up "Sir, HQ heard you had a tough nut to crack. We're here to do that, Sir" The Colonel just stared at them for a few seconds longer, studying them before issuing them into his command tent. However, as they left for the tent a fifth person walked off the pelican... Colonel Gale started to brief them as they entered the tent "We made great gains in the forest, but as soon as we hit the city limits, it's like we hit a wall. I have the regiment digging in and conserving ammo, and it appears that they're doing the same inside the city." The Colonel paused for a second, but before he could continue a dark wrath of a man stepped forth form behind the Spartans. "Colonel, get to the point. Tell them what to do and they'll do it. You're treating them like soldiers when they're more like equipment." The man said. Irritated, Gale was about to call the MP's, but stopped as he recognized the ONI insignia the man carried. The ONI operative wore a thin mocking smile as he continued "I'm here because ONI believes that there is something significant about this particular site. Don't you find it odd that there are no enemy ships in orbit, yet they keep getting reinforcements? Yes, that's right; you're not paid to think are you... Well that's why I'm here." The operative walked over to the chart table, and continued to talk "We inserted a Sergeant Johnson into the ODST Company that was to support your men. He was to ascertain how the enemy was able to slip it's reinforcements past us, but even we have lost communication with him." He looked back to the Spartans and finished "That's why they are here" Behind Enemy Lines In a dimly lit room Johnson sat, tied down to his chair and stared across at his interrogator. The shiny tin can started to talk, "Tell us where the rest of the Rebels are, and maybe we will let you live." Johnson just stared back at it, before lifting his head up and firing off a wad of spit onto its face. The Stormtrooper beside him hammered the butt of his E-11 into the back of Johnsons head and all went dark. He awoke some time later in his cell, massaging his head he looked across to Captain Briars. He could tell Briars was in bad shape from the bloody scorch mark across his chest, but he wouldn't be able to do anything from in here. The Captain drifted back into consciousness, letting out a gurgling cough "Johnson" he said before letting out another bloody cough "Got any more of those Sweet Williams cigars?" Johnson looked over at him, and with a pitying look replied "No sir, sorry to say I'm fresh out. But when we get out'a here I'll get you a whole box of 'em" but before he could finish he realize the captain had blacked out again. The four Spartans stalked through the trees towards the smoking city, Anton had point and was followed closely by Josh with Grace and Randall taking up flanking positions. They made their way slowly to the tree line, and peered out "The Colonel said that there was an aqueduct north of the city. We'll use that to get past their guard." Three acknowledgment lights flashed on Joshes HUD, and the team moved off into the forest. By the time the Spartans had reached the aqueduct a storm was growing in the eastern skies, Josh consulted his sat-link and saw it was headed right for the city 'we'll have plenty of cover in that storm, but if it blows over too soon...' Josh though to himself as he climbed the arched structure. The Aqueduct was almost three kilometers long and only a meter wide, and in order to maintain a low profile the four Spartans crawled the whole length. The storm had blown in too and the winds were reaching almost 300 kph, threatening to blow the half ton warriors off the top of the channel. In the screaming wind Randall opened his suits audio to shout over the wind, not wanting to alert the enemy with com chatter. "Dig in with your combat knives when the wind picks up!" he shouted to the team while muttering under his breath "Man they weren't kidding about the wind here, it should be calmer when we get down into the city though." He risked a glance at the end and saw they were just a few hundred meters from the water purification plant that the aqueduct ended at. He also zoomed in and saw the three white armoured guards patrolling its roof. The four Spartans stopped and with the same thought hooked their repelling cables to the stonework and slid over the side. As they descended below the tops of the buildings the air grew noticeably calmer and the snow was gently falling instead of whipping by. However the ground was still warm from the fighting and as the snow hit the ground it fumed up into a low layer of fog. Their mission priority was to place four Fury Tactical Nukes in the four corners of the city and find out how the enemy was getting it reinforcements 'Not a hard job to pull of but not easy either' though Randall. The Spartans stopped by one of the burnt out apartments of the city and Josh spoke in a low whisper to his team, "Anton, Randall take point and everyone with this fog switch to thermal." Acknowledgment lights winked as the team stalked off into the ghost town. Randall kept one eye on the wash of reds and blues displayed on his HUD and one on his motion radar. Ever time an enemy patrol slowly crawled by the Spartans would stop and conceal them selves. Just after placing the first bomb the Spartans heard an open com channel, a UNSC com channel. Static washed over the channel "This is Johns[kshee]yone read me?, Re[sheee] Sergeant Johnson can anyone read me?" there were sounds of energy weapons fire in the background "I've got wounded with me [kshee]..." there was nothing after that, but there was a large explosion around the corner and down a few blocks. "Anton, go with Grace and make sure the Nukes are planted, me and Randall will support the Sergeant and evac the wounded, they might have info on the enemy reinforcements." The Spartans were trained for this kind of work, and each group headed off to complete their objectives.
